Is a lot of inbound traffic coming from site a problem for SEO?
-
We have a site which is going to deliver content to a big news site and in return we will receive a lot of traffic from the news site.
Estimates are that it will be about 50% of our daily traffic.
Before this we have about 2000 daily visits, where 50% is from organic traffic.
How will this affect our rankings?
(It should be pretty obvious to Google that an increase like that in reffered traffic is bought - which I assume will ahve a negative impact on our organic rankings)
What is the best tactic to use - regarding SEO - if (when) we proceed to deliver content/recieve traffic from that news site? (we have a lot of decent rankings on several branch keywords, and we don't want to risk those rankings. On the other hand - if we could improve our rankings from this deal - we would like inputs to that as well?
Best regards,
Chris

One other thing...
I'm assuming (hoping) that the content you will be providing the news site will be original and not reprinted on your site. If you do reprint on your site, you should use a canonical tag to establish the originator of the content, which the news site will probably want to be them.
Also, if you have setup a Google+ authorship account, you can claim authorship of the articles that are being published on the news site as well as content on your own site. That can help with your search rankings as well. Right now, Google says authorship doesn't affect rankings (which i think is debatable), but I know for a fact that it does affect personalized results.

If you are paying for the site to publish your content or even if it's like a guest blog thing, you should use no-follow for the links. Google shouldn't care if you get a huge bump in traffic (technically, they say the Google search algorithm doesn't ever look at analytics data. So, the bump in traffic should be any concern for you, only the new links. As long as you no-follow the links, you should be fine. In fact, that's specifically what Google says to do if you are paying for links or guest blogging.

And which should I choose on links from the news site - do-follow or no-follow?
Normally I would always choose "do-follow" but in this instance - where I have some fears that Google would see it as bought traffic (which it in some way is) - I am contemplating no-follow...but will it make any difference?

Id make sure your site can load fast, promote engagement with social media, other posts you have or whatever, so you lower your bounce rate and improve your inbound signals. You should be ranking better than ever after that. Just keep them on the site and make good use of your traffic

Hiring for SEO Outreach
Hope everyone is having a nice Labor Day! We're a family owned wine club startup and have been handling SEO in house since things didn't go well with a previous SEO company (and sure we've done plenty of bad stuff along the way as well). In any case, we're writing a blog, including video entries etc. I've been handling basic email outreach about posts (ie if I write a winery profile, asking the winery to link to it) but don't really have time to handle more significant outreach than that. Can anyone make some suggestions about where to hire someone for an outreach job like this? It would undoubtedly be part time and Elance didn't give us anyone we were comfortable with. Thanks in advance!

E-commerce canonicals on other sites
Hi, I have a client with a new e-commerce site which is poorly ranked. Besides his e-commerce, he offers his products in a local site which very similar to Amazon. The description and HTML structure of his products, is the same on both pages. What do you think? Should I add canonical tags to the Amazon-like site? Or do I just need to change both contents to avoid duplication?

Value of IMG links for SEO
Hello, I'm looking for some new ways to build links (IE, letitimate not spam), and I know sites featuring a site that I created would be an interesting way to do so. My question is this, the StudioPress Showcase pages http://www.studiopress.com/showcase/baltimore-print-studios link back to your site with an image, with some "Almost URL Alt text". How valuable would this link be, given that the DA is 97 and the PA is in the upper 40s Thanks Zach

SEO in Africa
Hi everyone, I am a new danish SEOMOZ member currently living in Angola, Africa. I have created the site AngolaCarro.com - an online marketplace for cars. The website is in Portuguese, as this is the main language in Angola. I am struggling finding good Angolan/Portuguese sites for solid back links and I would be extremely thankful if anyone could give SEO advice on how/where to build strong links from Portuguese language sites. Will using dropmylink.com to create back links from English language sites to my Portuguese site be a waist of time or will it have a SEO effect? Thanks in advance and have a great Sunday. Ken

Value of a link from very large profile site
Hello We have an opportunity to get a link from a very large traffic site. It comes with a price tag, and Im wondering if it is worth it. Is it ok to mention the page and cost? It is the 5th largest internet site. Would be on their benefactors page. There are many other sites linking from the page, and its obvious they are on there for the link value. I know sometimes one link can do wonders for rankings, where thousands of others can not. But wondering if there is any way to quanitfy this. Is it worth it for the value of the backlink? If we link to the home page, the link juice (alot I hope) would pass through to the deeper pages, and increase their rankings for their target keywords? Thanks for your advise. Sam
