Ok to ignore Overly-Dynamic URL from Moz crawl?
-
I am developing an ecommerce site, just ran it through the Moz crawl to see what's what and it has come back with a lot of issues. Most of these issues are around duplicate page titles (it is not happy with paginated titles, ie Shoes, Shoes Page 2, Shoes Page 3 etc) and it has also found a lot of Overly-Dynamic URL's. Again, these seem to be from some of the search functions and filters used Accessories&pto_sort=priceAsc&pto_page=6 other than spending a lot of time and effort trying to rewrite these urls there is little I can do about them.
Should I just ignore this? I wouldn't imagine it having a massive impact on the rankings of the pages.
Thanks,
Carl

Thanks, Mike
Will check out the link you posted. I have added a lot of the filtering options - price ascending, descending and all the related page 2's and onwards to a no crawl file for Google (and Roger Bot) so hopefully that helps. Have also replaced a lot of the html filtering options with menus which cannot be crawled so will wait for the next Moz crawl and see if that's helped matters.
Regards,
Carl

Hi Carl,
For the pagination issue, depending on the page content, you can either leave it "as is" or you can use one of the 3 methods referenced on SearchEngineLand.com for managing pagination.
And if it is a lot of different filtering and search results pages, you could choose to noindex, nofollow them (unless you want these types of pages to show up in Google's SERP) which would resolve your crawl issues with Moz.
You are correct in stating that these probably won't have a massive impact on rankings. For these types of issues, it more or less comes down to how tight you want to run your ship.
Hope this helps.
Mike

URL structure for professional services across multiple industries
I am working with a company who does consulting work across multiple industries, but the services are essentially the same. Example Services: They implement "Customer Relationship Management" systems and "Data Archiving" Solutions. Example Industries: The services above can each apply to "Oil & Gas" or "Retail". Example URL Structures: mysite.com/oil-gas <-- This page would also contain links to all of the services provided to the Oil & Gas industry. mysite.com/oil-gas/customer-relationship-management-system mysite.com/retail mysite.com/retail/customer-relationship-management-system This seems like the best way to go, as long as i'm writing unique content, for each industry, for each service (i.e. I need to explain how a CRM solution solves specific problems in retail and OTHER specific problems in Oil & Gas). While there will certainly be some overlap, this approach seems logical to me. The URL length isn't too long either, which is nice. The company currently solely focuses on services in URL structure (not a very deep site): mysite.com/customer-relationship-management-system mysite.com/data-archiving Since they have already worked with hundreds of clients in multiple industries, it seems smarter to start focusing more on individual customer segments. Would anyone else do this differently? Thanks, Alex

To change or not to change site URL structure?
I am learning my way around SEO, having always used professionals for it in the past on previous businesses i have decided to do it myself and learn more about it. Now the dilemma i am up against is i recently changed some of my permalinks on quite a few main pages throughout the site. The site launched in April this year so we're quite new. The problem is since my last change i have not seen any increase...a decrease which in fact hasn't recovered at all. Having now analysed them in more depth and read up more on the whole subject of SEO, (which is endless) i have put together a complete new strategy; with this increased understanding of what i am doing (but by no means conclusive) i want to complete a full overhaul on all SEO (via Wordpress which i use along with YOAST SEO tools), ensuring i have all my keywords, permalinks and descriptions spot on throughout every page, post and picture. I spent a lot of time mapping these out, ensuring there is no Focus keyword duplication, and that the site is relatively flat in terms of its layout. What i am unsure about now is whether changing my permalinks again is a bad thing to do?

Could it permanently damage my rep going forward?
Should i just focus on my content and keywords/descriptions? I am at a loss as i don't want to do irreparable damage to our reputation. The site is still reasonable easy to manage so changing now is the best time to do it, but if changing the URLs is a waste of time then i may just forget that and just work on the keywords, descriptions and content. Advice is 'oh so welcome' 🙂0 -
Temp redirects of homepage URLs
Working on a site for a client and the CMS provider has all variants of their domain (.co.uk & .com and / and http:// etc) temp redirecting to the /default.aspx homepage. I know in theory that this means no Google Juice is being passed to the final location page, does this mean that all backlinks that point to their domain are not actually passing Juice onto the homepage? Thanks

Is it better to embed my longtail article or give it a separate url?
Within my e-commerce site I have jewelers who using uncommon techniques and maetrials. I have a few long tail type article ready to publish about these niche topics. My site navigation has each jeweler as a category with their often changing products within their category. I am thinking I would add an article to the artist-category content. But in the past, I have put "how to" or "what is" content in an article section of the site. This way I could link to it from several places. With the long tail in mind, would I be better off adding the article to the jeweler's category page? If I have a 2nd jeweler using this same technique, I am thinking I would rewrite the 1st article including different long tail phrases. Thank You for Helping- Handcrafter
