Repetitive Speaker and Keyword Stuffing Penalty
-
This question is a little bit on the whimsical side.
Let's say you have a video on your page, and a transcript of said video. The speaker has a tendency to repeat a certain (key)word, somewhat excessively. Maybe it's an important term for a technical video, maybe it's a nervous thing, whatever -- that word is in there a lot. If you include a video transcript, could you get slapped with a keyword stuffing penalty for excessive use of said word?

Thanks, that's very helpful. Signals on the video are mostly positive, I was just a bit worried about the repetitive word, but I guess I really should have been focusing on the user experience, which is just fine.
-
No -- thankfully it's not that bad. Thanks for the answer!

I love your whimsical answer Dana

Hi Oren
Yes, it is a little bit whimsical!
Unless the speaker shouldn't really be speaking because he says the word super excessively I don't believe you would have an issue. Google states the following regarding keyword stuffing:
"Keyword stuffing" refers to the practice of loading a webpage with keywords or numbers in an attempt to manipulate a site's ranking in Google search results. Often these keywords appear in a list or group, or out of context (not as natural prose)
Repeating the same words or phrases so often that it sounds unnatural, for example:
We sell custom cigar humidors. Our custom cigar humidors are handmade. If you’re thinking of buying a custom cigar humidor, please contact our custom cigar humidor specialists at [email protected].

Does your speaker speak as unnaturally as that? It would be very odd if they did.
I think it will be OK.

Whimsical Answer: If Search Engine's penalized for this then Christina Aguilera's videos from the first two seasons of The Voice would be de-indexed for the phrase "I mean...you know" [To her credit she must have spent some time watching those playbacks because she's much better this season]
Plain old ordinary answer: To my knowledge, search engines (Google included) do not impose a "keyword stuffing penalty" per se. However, it's entirely possible that the content could be devalued based on quality. Any one of a number of things can indicate to a search engine that visitors found the content uninteresting or useless or even redundant. If social signals are poor, bounce rate is high, time spent on the page is poor, and the depth to which visitors went (i.e. how far down the page did they scroll) is poor, the SERPs are most likely going to reflect that. If the content isn't substantially unique, doesn't add anything new or interesting to already existing content on the WEB and it's uber spammy, Google may just decide not to index it at all. I suppose you could call that a penalty, however, I highly doubt that it would be removed from the index if it received any social signals indicating that someone found it to be of value....even if it just irritated the heck out of them.
My educated guess is that the worse that would happen is that it might not rank very well for the overly repeated term.
Hope that's helfpul!

One keyword optimization for the whole site
Hello Folks at MOZ, I am new here and I am glad there's this section of the site where newbies can get help for SEO. I have a specific keyword which needs to rank as well as possible, and all other keywords, well they are automatically in the description text alt tags and in couple of page titles. So my keyword which I would need to rank as high as possible is "24k gold iphone 6" and it has quite lot's of searches per month, and my site is now one second page of google results. My question is: I don't care much about other keywords right now, so would it make sense to make on one or two pages which sell the 24k gold iphone of my website the title, the page url, headers, alt tags, image names, to be exactly "24k gold iphone 6" and /24k-gold-iphone-6.html etc. without any other text. I believe there is a difference in having exact same page title name etc as the keyword, without any additional text is good for ranking? Also I guess there is limit on how much this naming of files, titles etc can be used before google might give a penalty for it... so I guess I have to be careful. Many thanks for anybody who takes time to respond.

Internal pages targeted for local keywords
Hello, Simple question: how do you target local SEO with internal pages, where the home page may or may not be local?

Am I at risk of keyword stuffing in a portfolio?
I'm updating our company portfolio. All said and done I will have ~300 photos in the gallery on page load that are filtered depending on user clicks. Because of the nature of our work my main keywords are going to get repeated a lot throughout the file names and alts. The titles/captions will have wording more appropriate to the user, but I can't avoid a lot of these keyword combos. Do you think I'll take a hit for something like this? Or will it work in my favor? Ranking top 3 with Geographical Keyword but not on 1st page without it.
Recently I have been working to solve an issue where we rank number 2 for "Web Design Memphis" yet we do not appear on the first few pages for the keyword "web design." Several of our local competitors appear on the first page without the geo keyword. What can be done to solve this issue? I am not searching incognito and Google is recognizing my locality. Why is the competition able to rank on the first page without the geo keyword and we are not? Thanks for your feedback!

All Keywords Down.
all keywords are down all of a sudden. Any input will be appreciated. Everything was just working fine. Was that a result of Panda or Penguin update? Under webmaster there is no yellow question mark. Everyhting looks good in "Onpage" optimization. SOS.

Switching to a domain name with keywords in it, is it possible to make this happen smoothly?
Hello, We have been working on the SEO of our site for almost a year now, and we are still not really seeing the success we would like to see. I notice often we get outranked by other sites that have lower PA/DA/citations/reviews etc than us, and the only explaination i can find is that they are getting a boost for a Partial Keyword Match in the domain name. Right now our domain name is: http://www.storwell.com And we are considering switching to http://www.storwellselfstorage.com and of course 301 redirecting all the individual pages from the old domain to the new domain's pages. How much would we risk loosing out in this transition? Can we safely transfer domains, or do we risk loosing the majority of our PA & DA because the backlinks will point at redirects instead of the actual location? Has anyone successfully managed to transfer domains and keep their DA & PA?

Is it a bad idea to include a single keyword phrase at the end of the business name in Google Places?
I'm concerned about this for local SEO and citation purposes. It's not spammy and it flows well, and it sounds like a logical extension of our name, but I'm concerned that it will make it harder for Google to pick up our citations. Any thoughts?

Why are we ranking so poorly for this keyword
I am having a hard time understanding why we are ranking so poorly for the keyword search "self storage toronto" on google.ca We have claimed our places page, and we have 38 citations and 9 reviews. Yet for some reason we are burried 7 pages into the places pages results way below other places pages that have far lower page authority, domain authority, and less citations and reviews on their places page. I just can't understand what we are doing wrong / overlooking. Any ideas? Here's the places page i am referring too: http://maps.google.ca/maps/place?hl=en&ie=UTF8&q=storwell&fb=1&gl=ca&hq=storwell&cid=3009236871758088464&z=14 We do happen to land very high in the organic results for the same keyword, infact we are on the first page but why is google not giving us any love in places?
