What if your content is getting social shares but no links?
-
Suppose you have a weekly blog article and sometimes your articles earn social shares (e.g. 23 +1's on Google Plus on one article but normally 3-5 social shares). One out of 10 earns an organic link from a random blog. Would you continue publishing these blog posts?

I agree with Aaron here. Both elements are important. If there were quite a few more social shares then it would be easier to ignore the lack of links.
Do a test for a couple months - rather than posting weekly, post every other week and make the content more substantial - longer form text, lots of good formatting like h2/h3s, bullets, photos, etc. Target a higher value term. Also consider running a small Facebook ad ($15-25) or Twitter/LinkedIn featuring that post, and targeting it towards the exact type of demographics you want to see it.
I think you'll get a lot better return from this type of approach.

I my experience a had two pages with same competitive keyword and: one http://www.propdental.es/blog/odontologia/ortodoncia-estetica/ had just google+1 and no other social shares and the other http://www.propdental.es/ortodoncia-estetica/ lots of facebook ant twitter shares but no +1. No external links. Actually I had them actualized and more shared so it is different now.
The one just with google +1 was in front page and the other did not appear. So i think with social shares can be enough if you have a good domain authority.
I mean i think with good content and social shares could be enough to reach good audience to your website especially if that social share is on google plus

It really depends on what your strategy is here, but I would strongly look into revamping the kind of content that you are publishing and focus on something that your audience is really looking for.
While the social shares are nice, the links are important. And I am not saying there is no value in the social shares, but with those kind of numbers, I think there is more you can do to possibly improve on the content, and make it slighly more targeted to what people are looking for.
I would even go as far as to say, that the links are not the only reason you should be writing. It should be more around thought leadership, attracting a bigger more committed and passionate audience.
Content for the sake of content is not a good practice. It makes it thin, and then you have bigger problems

Is there harm in publishing too much content, at once?
We are working on catching up with some competition, who has done a much better job over the last few years with content creation. We normally publish 1 article a day but are looking at scaling that up to 3 to 4 articles a day so we can get our content out there to compete with the other websites, in keyword space we currently aren't in. Is there a negative impact on publishing too much content at once? Is there a negative impact on publishing too much content at once? Besides the probable inability to market all of it, I don't see any issues since we will be getting our articles indexed and out there for Google to start building value on them. However, some team members are apprehensive about doing too much at once. What are your thoughts Moz Community?

References for Healthcare Blog Content?
Hey everyone, We have a couple B2C medical/healthcare clients we produce content for and I was wondering what the industry stance is when it comes to giving references at the end of a blog, assuming there were no statistics or direct quotes used in the content. A lot of our content is written via research on a specific condition/treatment and doesn't really dive deep into specific medical nuances. Things like risks, recovery timelines, questions to ask, etc. are written about mostly. Still, should we be providing general references at the end of blogs to sites like WebMD, Medscape, etc. Thanks for any input!

Duplicate Forum Content
HI everyone, great to be here, absolutely loving everything, please go easy on me I'm quite a noob when it comes to seo, but hopefully my question isn't too basic. After running the initial checks on my websites, I found there are 7,646 duplicate pages? Some are easy fixes but the majority are not, being forum pages, the edit, quote and new post links are coming up as duplicates of the main post? Does anyone know how to fix this? Best Lee

Duplicate Content- Archives
Our site is showing duplicate content for about 20 pages, they are all on the site as regular pages and in the "Archive" section. So the URL is different by one word but all the content is the same, is there a way to fix this and make it to where Google doesn't see it as duplicate content? Thanks!

Content: Best Blogs Article
Hello, For an Ecommerce site, I think a good way to get known is to write a "Best X Blogs" article, where X is a topic in your industry, and then letting the people you link to know about the article. I got the idea from a Mozinar. My question is, how close does the X from above have to be in your niche? For example, if your product is running shoes can you write a "best athlete blogs" article? I'm worried about them reading the article, then leaving. In some smaller niches the topics closest to the product don't have much in the way of blogs out there. So how close to your niche does the Best X Blogs topic have to be?

What is the Best Practice for External Links?
We are currently in the process of reviewing our site on a number of fronts, and part of that involves adding quality content to our product category pages where necessary. Our practice so far has been to add relevant content, and in this content externally link to a couple of relevant, related sites for that category (avoiding the use of keywords we are trying to rank for). Should we be doing this (externally linking)? And, if so, should these external links be NoFollow? So far, we have seen mixed results for our efforts.

Building Content on E-Commerce Store
Hey guys, In 2011 it seems more and more important to build great content on your website to help SERP rankings. With an E-Commerce store what is the best way to add content? Would using the blog and adding related blog articles related to the product work and internally linking the anchor text to the specific product page? Obviously it would be more beneficial to rank the specific product page so wouldn't this method take away from those efforts? Or do we bank on being able to channel the visitor from the blog to the product page? Thanks Jason
