Please critique my SEO resume
-
Hello,
Please critique the SEO resume found here.
I'm looking for a job working 30 hours a week making $30/hour in Idaho.
Looking for advice on creating the best resume possible. It's all honest.
Thanks.

An objective based resumé should be for someone just graduating or early in their career. Change that top part to be skills based.
'Bob is a fast learner' - don't talk about yourself in the third person.
Don't say it's been a long time since you used PHP and MySQL. I'm sure you could brush up on it pretty quickly if you needed to.
Don't include 'references available upon request'. If they want them, they'll ask for them.

Hi Bob,
- In your list of accomplishments, the second one is not closed with a ".". In general I'm not sure if the second one is really an accomplishment as it's just a list of tools you know how to use. I see accomplishments myself more like goals.
- I agree with Tim, your resume should have your present jobs on top and should read down from your current qualifications.
- "Other languages such as PHP and MySQL were used but it’s been a long time." but it's been a long time is not quite OK to say about yourself. You can say this in an interview but I wouldn't list it like this.
- For you BS I would list the year you started as well, this normally gives some indication if you graduated within the usual nr. of years for a Bsc.
- Cpanels should be cPanel, also the .etc. is useless. Because I probably as a reader have no clue what the other tools are you know. Also Design should not be with a capital earlier in that list.
Just some points I saw by looking quickly.

Hi Bob,
Looking pretty good, but there are a couple things I would change. First, move SEO at Current Employer above Web Designer. I usually show my most recent job first and then go back through my employment history in reverse chronological order. However, if you're specifically looking for web design work, it would make sense to keep Web Designer first since it would be more relevant.
Next, I'd try to make your Major Accomplishments sound more...exciting, for lack of a better word, by replacing standard words like "used" or "learned" with strong action verbs. Some examples:
- "Got used to a lot of very useful tools..." could be, "Conducted research and analyzed campaign performance with expert knowledge of various industry tools including..."
- "Bob is a fast learner and kept up to date by being active with Moz" could be, "Maintained and expanded SEO knowledge base through active participation in the Moz community."
- "Learned that content is #1" could be, "Gained valuable insight into the importance of content as part of an overall Internet Marketing strategy."
Here's a good list of resume power words that might give you some ideas. It can be a little cheesy sometimes, but when you're looking for a job, every little bit helps.
I'd be happy to give my input on your other Major Accomplishments if you'd like. Just let me know!
Tim

Thanks Kevin,I made the changes and uploaded them to the same above link.
Any other suggestions by anyone are welcome.

A few things I would change: 1.) I would change "Self Employed" to "Consultant". 2.) I would take this out: Note that these aren’t very optimized for the search engines. 3.) Move education up
Good luck!

Where to find good SEO job applicants?
We're located in South Dakota, and I'm having a hard time getting qualified job applicants for an advanced SEO position. The ad has been placed on local job sites as well as careerbuilder.com and indeed.com. What other places do you recommend?

Local SEO issue
Hello, I have a client that is located just outside of Baltimore, MD. Their zip code is 21236, which is seen as sometimes Nottingham and sometimes Overlea. Their competitors come up for Baltimore with the same zip. This client seems to be having some problems, and I think it is because of this geo confusion? Is this so, and if so, how can I make location more clear to Google? Thanks

Is it getting harder to sell SEO services?
Is it just me, or is it getting harder to sell SEO services? SEO costs more now and takes longer to achieve results There seem to be more good SEO agencies out there (gone are the days where the primary competition was offshore outsourcers and web design agencies) It seems that the number of agencies is growing faster than the number of companies buying services As online competition heats up, it takes more and more budget to really "win" in a market, but so few companies are willing to invest enough Any others notice similar trends? What will the future look like?

Travelling & SEO?
Hi Everybody, I had no idea where to post this online and i thought SEOmoz was an awesome place to start! 🙂 I own a small digital marketing agency in the UK, i started it when i was 17 and i have won a number of awards from young entrepreneur of the year and i have worked with some large organisations. At the moment i am currently 21 and i have always wanted to go travelling and see the world. I have told my clients that i am going travelling and some are staying with me and some are leaving due to them liking that human contact / meet ups. what is totally fine. In October i am travelling around Australia and i was wondering if anybody has done anything like this before? I have always wanted to do it and keep coming up with excuses why i can't do it, but im just going to go for it!!!! I was thinking that i could travel from city to city working for different SEO agencies, i mainly work as a consultant because i find it extremely easy to start talking to people and generate leads. Do you think it would be better to work for somebody or pitch that im on my own travelling and can do it remotely. I can see why it wouldn't appeal to a agency to take somebody one as "part-time" and for somebody who could "steal" their business, im guessing i could get a contract together explaining that i will not work with any leads generated for their business? How would you go about getting work / getting paid? I have some websites what make income from absence but nothing life changing... just a few ££ per month. Any advice from anybody who has been travelling / done something like before would be extremely loved by me! 🙂 THANK YOU!!!!!! 🙂

Help! I need to hire a SEO / SEM Specialist - Am I asking for too much?!
Hey all! I'm expanding my in-house marketing team and I need to add an SEO / SEM Specialist that will strategize, execute & manage the following: Organic SEO PPC across multiple channels (Google, Bing & also social sites like Facebook) Remarketing & Display marketing Banner ads Retargeting We're a lean company that's all about doing more with less. But not being very familiar with the SEO / SEM world I'm afraid I'm asking for too much! What do you guys think? What's your experience been? If you do think that this is potentially a single position, what would be the best title for attracting talent? SEO / SEM Specialist? Digital Marketing Manager? With the research I've done - jobs / titles have been totally across the board! I'm not able to find much consistency. Thank you all for your help 🙂 It's greatly appreciated!!!!!

Best way to recruit quality SEO staff?
We are in a nice position in that we are growing everyday. As the result, we need more staff, but do not have the time to bring along someone without any real SEO background. I have used just about every source over the years to hire people with good and bad result.

For an SEO, with experience in some or all of the process: Link building, Keyword Analysis Site evaluation, eCommerce, Analytics... where do you go to find someone good? What about to find them yesterday? 😉 Obviously, they do not have to be expert at all, but they need to be familiar with all and have experience in at least two or three.1 -
How do I "link" up with USA based SEO's
After 28 long years of wait this year I finally made it to the United States of America. I grew up on "The A Team" , "Knight Rider" and Mcdonalds cheese burgers from 2 years onwards. I am as American as a English person could possibly be. It wasn't until I arrived in Florida and spent two weeks in the great country that I understood the difference in the minds and mentality of people. People were nicer ! People on the whole had a can do mentaily. If your a success people congratulate you for it . Unlike the UK.... Plus people were not scared to make a fool of themselves... (People jumping up and down at traffic lights with advertising boards) Now to my question - I loved it so much I want to go back and I figured me and my wife and 3 year old may have a extended break next time where I can work on vacation maybe over a month or so. I would love to get to know as many SEO's and people based in the USA as possible please and introduce myself etc. Hey who knows maybe SEO Moz can change my future (fingers crossed) Thanks to all the people that get in touch !
