Significant drop in traffic
-
Hi there,
We run 3 websites in a similar niche (bins) but tend to have a different area of focus on each site, wheelie, recycling and general litter. They all have unique descriptions, images etc (as much as possible) One of our sites has been a long standing penalty sufferer and we still dont want to give up on it. They are all located on unique IP's but on the same server with the same owner in whois.
My question is could our site that has struggled with a penalty in the past be effecting our other sites which havent had problems?
I know google likes to see brands and we do regular content, social media etc on all the sites,
The drop came today and appears across all our sites. The main site that had the penalty usually gets around 50 visits a day from search, so far today it has had 10 and that is most of the working day now gone.
I hope someone can shed a little light on the issues we are facing
Thank you
Jon

Hi,
Yes i am fairly sure as a previous SEO company caused all the bad linking. This website has all been organic growth and links.
Page visits are down by half, time on site is down by almost half. Is something else a miss?
Are rankings for our biggest keyword in a competitive sector is still at 3 on Google UK, so i dont think its a penalty. It could be a browser issue or conflict, i just dont know! the site is recyclingbins dot co.uk
Thanks for your help

Ufff, took me a while to find this one, and I'm sure I saw another one talking about nameservers, too (back when I was researching SEO impacts of using cloudflare, you know, hundreds of sites using the same nameservers).

Hi Federico,
Could you give us a link for this? Would be nice to be able to quote it in the future. Thanks!

Whois data, nameservers, ips, etc, are no longer used to rank Websites, according to Google (you can't penalize a site because another stepped into a dark area. Lots of sites use private whois, reverse proxies, etc).
If you had a penalty on one of your sites, are you sure you didn't make the same mistake on the other sites?

Google Images search traffic and image thumbnail issues
Hi MOZ community! Need a little help with a strange issue we are seeing of late on our project CareerAddict.com. We have seen a sudden and significant drop in image visibility in Search Console from the 27th August onwards. I understand that Google has been updating their filters and other bits in image search, so maybe this could have impacted us? I also noticed that the images which are mapped to our articles are not the full featured article 700px wide images which we provide to Google in the Structured Data. They are instead taking the OG share 450px wide images now on many occasions. You can see this by searching for "careeraddict.com" in images. Any insight or suggestions welcome on both of these. Interested to understand if any other webmasters are experiencing other or similar problems with image visibility in Google also. Thanks!

44 terms dropped out of the top 3 results on google this past week.
Can anyone take a look at the site and offer suggestions as to what I can do. My visibility went from 13% to 2% over the past two months. I had 800 organic terms prior to this now I am falling off a cliff. Have no idea what happened. I just switched over to HTTPS 3 weeks ago and it has helped a little.

Organic Traffic: Hockey-stick growth followed by slow rampdown of death!
My site, Site Builder Report, was started last year. Months 1 - 6 saw modest organic traffic growth.

Months 6 - 9 saw explosive organic traffic growth.
Months 9 - 12 have seen a steady decrease in organic traffic. (I've attached a graph for visualizing this) The site has not changed much over this time. In fact, in the last 3 months, I've done two things to try to get organic traffic trending upwards again: Increased the amount of long-form articles on the site (from 1 new article every 3 weeks to 1 new article every week) Fixed approxately 150 five hunded (500) errors in Google Webmaster Tools three weeks ago (converted them to 404s) Neither fix has really been able to change the trend (although perhaps it's too early to tell with the fixing of errors). Does this downtrend warrant concern? It's having significant business effects- would hiring an SEO consultant be the next step for reversing this trend? Any thoughts? GeYyuvA0 -
Rank dropped for website
We have seen rankings drop considerably for www.think-ins.co.uk in the last 48 hours, I know Penguin 2.0 has been released but anyone got any ideas on what specifically we might have been penalised for? Thanks

Sudden drop in rankings and indexed pages!
Over the past few days I have noticed some apparent major changes. Before I explain, let me say this: Checking my analytics and WMT: There is an increase in traffic (even via google organic) There is no drop in impressions or clicks There is no drop in indexed pages in GWT Having said that; When I check my indexed pages using site:www.mywebsite.com, I see only 30 results as opposed to the 120K that I was seeing before (it was steadily climbing). The indexed pages have increase 3 fold in the past year, because of the increase in pages, updates, and products on the site. I see a sudden drop in rankings for major keywords that had been steadily rising. For example, I had some major keywords that were on page 7-8, not they are on page 20+ or not at all. Also, the page that used to show in the rankings has changed. I have only done white-hat guest blogging in the past year for link building, on a small scale (maybe 20-30 links in a year). They only other change recently, is that we are: Posting products on Houzz and Pinterest daily adding our site to all local directories (white pages, Yelp, citysearch, etc.) My site got hit by Penguin more than a year ago, but we have done everything right since, and our traffic via organic results has more than doubled since the Penguin release. What the hell is going on? Should I be concerned?

Where is Bing traffic?
According to http://mashable.com/2011/04/11/bing-search-growth/, Bing has almost half the market share compared to Google. Yet Bing organic traffic on my main site is exactly 2.8% of Google organic traffic. Is there some low-hanging fruit I am missing or do you guys have the same results as me?

Urgent input needed on huge drop in Google
As of today we got huge drops in SERP across all our pages. We can see a drop between 10 to 80% on most of our pages on this domain: http://www.meresverige.dk Some background info: Never bought any links Yes, did optimize the site, but only in fair way, using SEO moz On-Page Optimization. Most pages get an A-grade No cloaking, all pages do look exactly same to visitors and Google Any input on what this could be? We are hugely grateful for any input that might lead us in the correct direction Have a nice day Fredrik
