Is This Going to Hurt?
-
A client had a very grateful customer, who submitted their sites to www.pingmyurl.com
Do you think that this is going to wind up hurting us in the long run as far as webspam, or is this a pretty legit service? Anyone have an opinion or any experience with this site?
-
If the site was submitted, and its already in effect, you will have to wait and see if there is any negative linking. You will not be able to disavow any URL's until you know about them.
At the same time, Google isn't stupid. If this was all that it took to bring down a website in ranking, people would be using it daily on their competitor's URLs. What I am trying to say is: wait and see. A one time submission is probably not going to make or break you in any way. If you were submitting daily pings, and had a track record of being a spammy site, then I would think otherwise.

I agree, but this is actually a service that submits to over 1400 different URL's, that's why I was concerned...

Such tactics should be avoided since the traffic they (supposedly) generate is artificial and the major Search Engines have focused a plethora of their later updates towards the recognition of spam and for the promotion of quality.
The search engines can track the user behavior within a web document and in my understanding of their patents and updates, they could capture artificial behaviors.
My suggestion would be to stop the use of such services. Regarding possible penalties of the search engines towards the website, noone could quanitify their effect for sure. It could hurt you possibly but if you focus on proper structure and quality of the website, you will end up improving your rankings in the search engines.
You could also recognize possible backlinks from this service by using tools such as opensiteexplorer. Then, you coul employ the disavow tool of Google to inform it about the specific links, in order to state that you would not like this links to be taken into consideration for your website's profile.

Webspam comes from so many sources, I would highly doubt you are going to see a negative effect from just one URL. If you are really concerned about it, check the server settings, enable Spam Assasin, and country IP blocks. We have seen the worst cases of spam come from Russia, Ukraine, Thailand, India, and China.
If you dont trust the URL, see if there is a page where your link is listed, and create a disavow request in Webmaster tools.

I would seriously doubt that it would do any damage. If it could damage your site then loads of people with use it for neg seo (which is not happening) I wouldn't worry about it.

Too many links pointing to our privacy policy page: Hurting our ranking efforts of main pages?
Hi community, As per the "Links" report from GSC, there are millions of pages pointing to our privacy policy page. We can expect high number of links to this page being ours an open source product. But these links are overtaking the count of links pointing to our homepage which are very artificial from few spammy or low quality sites. "Privacy policy" anchor text is also been the top anchor text. Our homepage ranking dropped and I suspect this is the culprit. Google might be considering this is the important page being linked on top with anchor text. Shall I Disavow these sites and will this makes Google stop counting links, and the anchor text coming from these sites as well? Suggestions please. Thanks

Our webpage has been embedded in others website using iframe. Does this hurts us in rankings?
Hi all, One of our partners have embedded our webpage in their website using iframe such a way that anybody can browse to any page of our website from their website. It's said that content in iframes will not get indexed. But when I Google for h1 tag of our embedded webpage, I can see their website in SERP but not ours which is original. How it's been indexed? Is this hurting us in rankings? Thanks

White H1 Tag Hurting SEO?
Hi, We're having an issue with a client not wanting the H1 tag to display on their site and using an image of their logo instead. We made the H1 tag white (did not deliberately hide with CSS) and i just read an article where this is considered black hat SEO. https://www.websitemagazine.com/blog/16-faqs-of-seo The only reason we want to hide it is because it looks redundant appearing there along with the brand name logo. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would putting the brand logo image inside of an H1 tag be ok? Thanks for the help

Spam signals from old company site are hurting new company site, but we can't undo the redirect.
My client was forced to change its domain name last year (long story). We were largely able to regain our organic rankings via 301-redirects. Recently, the rankings for the new domain have begun to plummet. Nothing specific took place that could have caused any ranking declines on the new site. However, when we analyze links to the OLD site, we are seeing a lot of link spam being built to that old domain over recent weeks and months. We have no idea where these are coming from but they appear to be negatively impacting our new site. We cannot dismantle the redirects as the old site has hundreds, if not thousands, of quality links pointing to it, and many customers are accustomed to going to that home page. So those redirects need to stay in place. We have already disavowed all the spam we have found on the old Search Console. We are continuing to do so as we find new spam links. But what are we supposed to do about this spam negatively impacting our new site? FYI we have not received any messages in the search console.

Would you say this is both Penguin and Panda and no penalty has ever been lifted? What would be your general recommendations for this site? seWnoQm

Do inbound links from forums hurt our traffic?
We have a manual action against us on Google webmaster tools for unnatural links. While evaluating our back links, I noticed that forums with low page rank/domain authority are linking to us. Is this hurting us?

All pages going through 302 redirect - bad?
So, our web development company did something I don't agree with and I need a second opinion. Most of our pages are statically cached (the CMS creates .html files), which is required because of our traffic volume. To get geotargeting to work, they've set up every page to 302 redirect to a geodetection script, and back to the geotargeted version of the page. Eg: www.example.com/category 302 redirects to www.example.com/geodetect.hp?ip=ip_address. Then that page 302 redirects back to either www.example.com/category, or www.example.com/geo/category for the geo-targeted version. **So all of our pages - thousands - go through a double 302 redirect. It's fairly invisible to the user, and 302 is more appropriate than 301 in this case, but it really worries me. I've done lots of research and can't find anything specifically saying this is bad, but I can't imagine Google being happy with this. ** Thoughts? Is this bad for SEO? Is there a better way (keeping in mind all of our files are statically generated)? Is this perfectly fine?

How is this different than Go Daddy Spam?
Out of boredom, I googled up "SEO Company". #1 result is qualifiedimpressions.com. Taking a look at their link profile it seems they are utilizing anchor text on all their clients' websites. Moreover, it appears they have multiple sites for each of their phrases (which they cross link). Qualified Impressions - SEO Company WeBuildRankings.com - SEO Service VisibilitySquad - SEO Companies Some of their clients are rocking multiple anchor text links. How is this not any different than what Go Daddy did recently?
