Guest blogging??
-
Hi all! I heard that Google comes down on guest blogging. I did a search here on Moz with the terms "Guest Blogging" and not much comes up, as it relates to my question.
So I'm asking: I have a website with specific content where I can implement a "team blog" (stackideas - easyblog), and have industry professionals submit a blog article (once a month on their respective industry focus), and add Google Authorship (link to/from their Google+ profile contributors section), but not allow ANY follow links back to their site. There will be about 10 different blog categories, and there will potentially be several different authors in each category who will be writing specific focused content per category.
Any potential Panda (or any other animal problems with that?
Thanks all! BB

Did you see the post authored by Cyrus Shepard earlier this week (http://moz.com/blog/bye-bye-author-pics)? He concludes there are still plenty of good reasons to use Google Authorship.
Assess the quality of the publication you're considering writing for, and decide based on that. If it's a reputable site, I would set yourself up as an author. Look at the recent posts on Moz and other leading SEO blogs. They're still using authorship and follow links. Let that be your guide.

I'm wondering the same / similar thing.
I have been invited to regularly write for a blog. I am tossing up one of two options.
- Having myself set up as an author and attach it to a Google+ account to claim authorship.
- Having the site owner post under their name and give me credit at the end of the post as the author.
Either option better? If I choose option 1, do I need to nofollow the links because I'm the author linking back to my own site?
All posts will be original, relevant and helpful content, I'm just being overly cautious.

Hi BBuck.
Join the crowd! Matt spurred a lot of confusion and conversation with his "stick a fork in it" comment back in January. It's taken a while for a broad consensus to gel around what that really means. Search Engine Journal has a lot of solid observations and commentary on the topic. John Rampton at SEJ perhaps said it best "SEO isn’t dead. Guest posting isn’t dead."
Here's what I've been able to gleen. It really boils down to intent.
Guest blogging purely for the sake of trying to acquire inbound links is not advised. If, as in your case, you're soliciting guest posts with the intent of helping educate and assist your audience, that's perfectly acceptable so long as you set and follow strict guidelines to ensure quality. Examples of "quality guidelines" can be found on sites like Moz and SEJ and include, in addition to those you have outlined above:
- publish original content that has not been published elsewhere;
- give credit where credit it due - use proper attribution; and
- write at least 300 words, more is better.
I think even follow links are fine, so long as they are relevant, on-topic references.

Essential to Have a Blog to Rank Well?
I have noticed that several competitors that rank very well rarely update their blogs, www.42floors.com for instance. We are redesigning our commercial real estate Wordpress website in the hopes of improving traffic, ranking and conversions. How critical is it to invest resources on creating and categorizing blog posts? Is frequently updating a blog post less necessary in late 2018? Curious to hear how much effort we should take to create new blog content and whether or not it will assist us in a competitive niche. Thanks, Alan

Process to move blog from subdomain on Wordpress, to subfolder on BigCommerce store
Hi Having weighed up all the angles, it's time to bite the bullet and move our blog from a subdomain to a subfolder on our ecommerce store. But as someone new to SEO I am struggling to find the correct process for doing this properly for our situation. Can anyone help? I have outlined what I have learned so far in 10 steps below to hopefully help you understand my situation, where I am at and what I am struggling with. Advice, tips and suggested further reading on all/any of the 10 points would be great. Some quick background The blog is on Wordpress, and on a subdomain of our store (blog.store.com). It is four years old, with 80 original posts we want to move to a subfolder of the store (store.com/blog). The store has been built using BigCommerce, and has also been active for four years. Both the blog and the store exist as properties within our Google Search Console. The 10 steps required for the move, based on research so far, and the associated questions 1 Prepare new site: which I am guessing means reproducing all of the content over at the new subfolder location (store.com/blog)? 2 Setup errors for any pages not being transferred: I have no idea how to do this! 3 Make sure analytics is working for the new pages: it should be as the both the site the pages are moving to a subfolder of is already running with analytics and has been for years - is this a safe assumption? 4 Map all URLs being moved to their new counterparts: is this just record keeping? In a spreadsheet? Or is it a process I don't yet understand?? 5 Add rel='cannonical' tags: while I understand the concept of these, I have no idea how to implement them properly here! 6 Create and save new sitemaps: as both the blog.store.com and store.com exist in Google Search Console already, can I just refresh the sitemap for store.com/blog once the subfolder is created to achive this? 7 Setup and test 301 redirects: these can be created in BigCommerce for the new pages in the store.com/blog subfolder, and will refer back to the blog.store.com URLs the pages came from - is this the right way to do this? I am still learning here and know enough to know how much this can matter, but not enough to fully grasp the intricacies of the process 8 Move URLs simultaneously: I have no idea what this means or how to achieve it! is this just for big site moves? Does it still apply to 80 blog posts shifting from a subdomain to a subfolder on the same root? If so, how? 9 Submit a change of address in Google Search Console: This looks simple enough although Google ominously warn: ‘Don't use this tool unless you are moving your primary website presence to a new address’ Which makes me wonder how simple it really is - my primary website in this case is the store, which is not moving. address But does 'primary' here simply mean the individual property with search console? I am going in circles on this one! 10 Configure the old blog on the subdomain to redirect people and engines to the new pages: I thought the 301 redirects and rel='cannonical' stuff did that already? What did I miss?? For anyone still here, thanks for making it this far and if you still have the energy left, any advice would be great! Thanks

Can buying a sponsored post (for non SEO purposes) on a website where you already have a guest post have a negative impact?
Hi, I thinking about buying a sponsored post about our product on a website we have previously contributed a guest post. Can a new sponsored post make Google think our original guest post was paid for? Thanks, Ori

Blog snippets on homepage a potential detriment to rankings?
Hey guys, I realize similar topics have surfaced before, but mainly related to duplicate content penalties, which is not my concern in this case. My client is parsing blog snippets to the home page; actually 3 large snippets consisting of of approximately 200 words each. They create at least one fresh blog post per month pertaining to the specific industry. I realize this practice has widely embraced to satisfy the "freshness factor" but I am concerned it could be hindering the ability for the home page to rank for our two targeted phrases. It would seem that by continually rotating the blog snippets which contain content related to the industry, but not necessarily relevant to the home page's targeted key phrases - combined with the fact that the home page has very slim static content - the bots are attempting to assign new taxonomies of information on a monthly basis. My thoughts are to create a decent block of static content highly-relevant to the home page's target phrases, while reducing the amount of info. contained in the blog snippets, to perhaps only a headline and date. Comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

Subdomain blog vs. subfolder blog in 2013.
Having read this ( http://www.seomoz.org/q/blog-on-a-subdomain-vs-subfolder ) & countless of blog posts on never to put your blog on a domain because a subdomain is treated as a different site & your blog traffic won't help with your main sites authority. I've always pushed for subfolder blogs. However I've been seeing a lot of blogs now and days saying that Google is now treating subdomains as the same site as your main site. http://www.brafton.com/news/subdomains-vs-subdirectories-for-seo-no-serp-benefits-for-subdomains-anymore http://webmasters.stackexchange.com/questions/34173/subdomains-vs-subdirectory-status-as-of-2012/34366#34366 ETC... What does everyone think? Is it acceptable to have a blog in a subdomain in 2013? Thanks!

Create a new XML Sitemap for a blog subdomain?
What would be the best way to go about this? A site just put a blog on http://blog.domain.com/ Should there be a separate XML Sitemap for that particular subdomain or should the original XML Sitemap for the main domain be sufficient? Looking forward to your responses. Thanks
