301 Redirect Issue for URL with # and !
-
Hi All,
We had a WIX website and now moved to Wordpress. I m having issue while doing redirecting from old URL to new URL.
Example:
Old Url: http://www.firsttraffic.com.au/#!traffic-management/ccfn
New Url: http://www.firsttraffic.com.au/our-services/traffic-management/
I tried different wordpress plugin but nothing works. I m thinking its due to the # . But How can I to redirection for URL like this .
Thanks

Wix is no fun
you can try this
If you want google to use it
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
rewriterule ^#!traffic-management/ccfn(.*)$ http://www.firsttraffic.com.au/traffic-management/ccfn$1 [r=301,nc]https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/174992?hl=en
http://www.firsttraffic.com.au/?_escaped_fragment_traffic-management/ccfn
http://www.firsttraffic.com.au/#!traffic-management/ccfn
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^traffic-management/ccfn$ /#!traffic-management/ccfn [L]RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^([^-]*)$ /?escaped_fragment=$1 [L]

Thomas is correct. You cannot redirect from an URL with a hashtag in it (although it is possible to redirect to an URL with a hastag using escape fragments). Unfortunately, in your case it is the former, and therefore not possible.

Yes you are correct it is due to the #. Google does not index anything after the #so if you redirect to itfrom their perspective you might as well be doing nothing. The canonical tag could help. But more importantly why would you want to redirect to a URL with a #in it?
Google only sees this URL as
http://www.firsttraffic.com.au/
NOT http://www.firsttraffic.com.au/#!traffic-management/ccfn
http://www.firsttraffic.com.au/our-services/traffic-management/
you could redirect a new URL or create a substitute URL but if your redirecting is even successfully with a # in you're URL
Makes no sense what I would do is re-created or simply find a different URL to redirect offer to feel BU the homepage is the correct URL Yoast Wordpress SEO premium might be
Able to do it I know that you can do it server-side however tell me what stack you're running and I will send you the instructions on how to redirect. But know this your redirect you know if the homepage Google looks at it that way
all the best, Thomas

Dead end pages are really an issue?
Hi all, We have many pages which are help guides to our features. These pages do not have anymore outgoing links (internal / external). We haven't linked as these are already 4th level pages and specific about particular topic. So these are technically dead end pages. Do these pages really hurt us? We need to link to some other pages? Thanks

Canonical and Sitemap issue
Hi all, I was told that I could change my homepage Canonical tag to match that of my XML sitemap, this sitemap is being generated for me automatically and shows the homepage as e.g. https://www.mysite.com/index.html, yet my Canonical tag has been set to https://www.mysite.com. Google currently shows as https://www.mysite.com/ being indexed, but https://www.mysite.com/index.html is not currently displayed in search results. Can someone please tell me if I should change the Canonical to the index.html version, or if I should do nothing, or remove the Canonical tag altogether? Thank you for looking.

Should I Redirect Pagination?
Working on a redirect map for a client moving platforms and they have all of their category pagination indexed - no canonical link and no rel next/prev's on any of them. Should I redirect the pagination pages to the main category page on the new platform? Or Should I allow the pagination to de-index itself type of thing? Thoughts and experience?

New ecommerce site: Close old site and full domain redirect or keep it linking to new site?
We have rebranded and are working on our new site (B). Our old site (A) has a much higher domain/page authority than our new site. Currently we have the original Site A still there, with all links/pages pointing to the new Site B when people click. I am unsure whether we'd be best to close down the Site A completely and do a full domain redirect to Site B. Site A: 10 years age and has a moderate amount of links to it.

Homepage - PA: 24 DA:11 Site B: 6 months age, few links
Homepage - PA: 1 DA:2 My concern with the full domain redirect is that the indexed/ranking pages would dissapear. The benefit is less brand confusion for our niche range of party accessories.0 -
Website Redesign - What to do with old 301 URLs?
My current site is on wordpress. We are currently designing a new wordpress site, with the same URLs. Our current approach is to go into the server, delete the current website files and ad the new website files. My current site has old urls which are 301 redirected to current urls. Here is my question. In the current redesign process, do i need to create pages for old the 301 redirected urls so that we do not lose them in the launch of the new site? or is the 301 command currently existing outside of our server so this does not matter? Thank you in advance.

How important is URL length?
Is URL length really that important? I have many articles that would lose meaning if the URL was shortened and for most, they would have to be under the root domain instead of under the category in order to fit. Has anyone tested if they were negatively impacted by URL's that are too long?
