Keyword ranking with competitors with lower #s
-
When analyzing a keyword ranking, our term is consistently on P1 P3-5. Looking more closely, I find that the numbers don't make sense to me. Our competitors have lower Page Authority 3s, lower # Root Domains Linking to Page, Lower Domain Authority 3#s and lower Root Domains linking to the Root Domains Linking to the Root Domain #s. What explains the consistent_ ranking discrepancy? Any ideas?_

Thanks John!
I just love swimming in the mud bath SEO analysis provides. This is where I start to think type A behavior is just not worth it. We do have P1 on this particular keyword, but am just plain moody about having higher numbers and being ranked one or two positions lower!
Happy swimming!

I am dealing with that exact issue now. It is very annoying and difficult sometimes to drill into to. I am dealing with it for the key word "babysitting" for a client right now. We have identified two areas we can improve on to lift ranking, above this lower domain authority but higher ranking competitor:-
1/Editorial links - Why ? we analysed the links of our competitor and the only aspect that was better is they had a government & a few editorial links we did not have. But alot less links. So we have made this a focus and got the client working on this now.
2/Click-Through rate - again it is intuitive but people prefer the organic search result - so we anticipate they have a higher CTR. So we are changing that as well.
Also the competitor has a better exact matching domain to the keyword "babysitting". So we know that is an issue but believe if we fix 1 & 2 above we will get above them. If not - roll the sleeves up and go again...
Hopefully as clear as mud!

Hi Kathy!
It's very difficult to know what could be leading to their rankings, especially not being familiar with the sites or vertical. However, one thing you might try is running a Full SERP Analysis Report through the Moz Keyword Difficulty Tool (a research tool that comes with Moz Pro). You may be able to work out what factors are helping them rank.
Cyrus Shepard made a great video on the report here.

Does Lightbox Gallery Clicks Count Positively Toward Page Rank?
When a user clicks through a lightbox gallery, are these counted as a click through for page rank? I am using WonderPlugin Grid Gallery on multiple pages with multiple galleries. I do not want these clicks to be wasted. Please advise. Regards, Clever Name SEO www.clevernameseo.com

Have i got a manual action on rankings?
Hi guys, so recently Google released the 'manual actions' tab under 'search traffic' in Google webmaster tools. Recently hit by panda i checked this and got: " Unnatural links to your site—impacts links Google has detected a pattern of unnatural artificial, deceptive, or manipulative links pointing to pages on this site. Some links may be outside of the webmaster’s control, so for this incident we are taking targeted action on the unnatural links instead of on the site’s ranking as a whole." However was this not the message before saying it was not a complete manual ban, just affecting a few bad links? I was hit badly in the rankings but still have some good terms and traffic is not that bad still from organic non-brand. I have fixed many of the bad links (horrible articles submissions that went out of control in 2009) - do i do a reconsideratikn request? i have disavowed the bad links that are left 3 weeks ago? so do i wait to see if disavow works or do a reconsideration request?I was sure this was like the message sent out before which meant it wasn't that bad for your site, just a few links ignored? Any advice much appreciated, thank you.

Is there a way to do this sort of keyword research?
I'd like to be able to do some keyword research as follows: Let's say I have two (or maybe more) separate keyword phrases I want to rank, is there a way to find out what combination and/or additional keyword phrases/descriptors are searched for the most? For example, let's say I want to rank well for the following terms. "Green widgets" and "boxes" Is there a tool I can use that will give me ideas/suggestions on how to use those two keywords the best way? Especially showing me long tell keyword suggestions I may not even know about. The tool may show me things people search for like "best boxes for your green widgets" gets more serach results than "best boxes for my green widgets." (Helping me figure out which combo of words in a long tail phrase is better. Or it may tell me a suggestion I didn't think about like "how to build boxes for your green widgets," or "how to put your green widgets into boxes," or "where to find boxes for your green widgets" or other combinations of things people search for using those two phrases? This may be possable using google keyword tools, but if it is, I'm not sure how to do it. Looking forward for any feedback. Thanks!

Keyword Diversity: What Does it Mean?
I recently read this awesome article by Ian Lurie on the Portent blog: http://www.portent.com/blog/analytics/seo-analytics-middle-earth-style.htm However, I keep getting stumped by what he means under the "Grade Yourself" section by "keyword diversity." Of course, I've tried to ask him, but he hasn't yet responded. Besides, I like to get the opinion of the SEOMoz crowd anyway. So what is "keyword diversity"? Is it the total number different link texts out there linking to my site? The total number of keywords I'm actively tracking and optimizing for? The total number of phrases for which I rank in a Google search engine (if it's even possible to know that)? Thanks, Benjamin

Why isn't Google showing the first keyword result in Analytics anymore?
Just checked my Google Analytics traffic sources under organic search and it dosen't display the first keyword, it says "not provided" is there another way of determining the #1 organic searched keyword that my site was found under?
