Disavowing a .edu
-
I have a backlink that I found from http://onucdm.onu.edu/mt/hmlref/2010/10/see_below.html . . . it is a nofollow, so it doesn't seem to be doing much harm. But this is obviously spam. It is from a .edu, so I'm not sure what I should do. Think it's harming my site at all? In general, how do you determine what to disavow?

Very helpful as well --- thanks so much :).

Hi Kevin,
As you mentioned that link is nofollow so if link is nofollow there is no need to disavow them because "When a link is disavowed, the next time that Google crawls that link they essentially add an invisible nofollow tag to the link."
To know more on this please read Marie Haynes article @ http://searchenginewatch.com/sew/how-to/2330944/7-things-you-may-not-know-about-googles-disavow-tool
Hope this helps.
Thanks

Thanks so much --- I sent them a message, and won't worry about disavowing the link currently.

I would get in touch with the webmaster. Let them know that they have been spammed. They will probably take that page and other pages down. They don't want this stuff on their website.
(I doubt that it is hurting your site. But getting the page taken down will help the school and eliminate worry for you.)

Value of EDU Links?
Greetings: We are considering hiring a firm specializes in developing .EDU links. Is the ROI on EDU links better than non EDU backlinks from reputable domains? Will obtaining EDU links results in greater domain authority and improved ranking for search engine results? Thanks, Alan

Disavowing Affiliate Links - Domain or Actual Affiliate Link?
Hi everyone, Hope you're all having a great day, I have a question in regards to a site which I am about to disavow. Over the past 2 months a certain page of ours has dropped from the 2nd page, all the way to the 7th. I haven't been able to diagnose why, however, yesterday I discovered that a site has been using an Lafitte link on his sidebar, the link is a do-follow. Webmaster tools indicates that this site has linked to us over 24,000 times. I understand that this link could potentially ruin our rankings - however, in terms of disavowing, what is the best approach here? Do I disavow their domain, or do I disavow the actual affiliate link also? The link is placed within an image, once the image is clicked it redirects you to another link for a second then redirects to our money site. We have got in touch with our affiliate program and they have made the link a no-follow, however, we are pretty certain this site is causing issues for us and we want to go ahead and disavow. Thanks, Brett

What Links to Disavow?
I am looking through my website's link profile that I pulled directly from Google Webmaster Tools. What is the best way to determine the links to disavow? Maybe the Webmaster Tools list is not the best list for this process but I really need to clean up the links that are hurting the site's SEO. Does anyone have any insight?

.Edu Backlink wrapped in Wiki
An SEO expert offers my site backlinks from .edu's wrapped in wiki. Structure as follows "wiki.xxx.UNINAME.edu/etcetc" - the pages have authority of 1 (domain obviously high with the dot edu) but there is no relevant info on the pages and obviously wiki links are no follow. This does not sound right to me, but can anyone share some insight since it is wiki + edu combined it sounds on surface like credibility, but with page having no relevant content I feel it isn't right. thank you

Should I bother disavowing nofollow backlinks?
Hello! I am about to go through the list of backlinks in our profile and sort out what we want to disavow. A question I had is, should I both disavowing nofollow backlinks, even if they look spammy? Or should I just focus on cleaning up the dofollow's? Thanks!
