How are 279 Characters Displaying in a Meta Description?
-
I was looking at some SERPs, and I saw one of our competitors had 279 characters displaying in their meta-description. Everyone else (including the people ranking higher than this person) were displaying the usual number. How is that possible? I didn't think google every displayed that much. Screenshot attached.

I didn't provide the query, but I'm glad I didn't. If I had, then you wouldn't have guessed, and we both wouldn't have noticed how the other phrasing changed the meta length. Not sure how relevant it is to overall SEO strategy, but makes me curious as to why.

Check it out, that's NOT the query, but you're right about "tampa auto accident lawyer." When you type in "Tampa car accident attorney" it triggers the long meta description in unpersonalized search. That's interesting. I'd think it'd be the same, since they are such similar words.

Thanks Dimitrii, that was helpful. Depressing that there's nothing I can really do about it, but helpful nonetheless.

Google is simplifying my meta titles. What does it mean?
Hi Guys. I've noticed that google seems to be simplifying my meta titles in their SERP for some keyword searchs. Should I be worried about this? Perhaps a sign of being a little 'spammy' in my meta titles? Or is Google just aiming to bring up the most relevant looking result? Based on that specific search? Isaac.

Meta Description / Meta Keywords
So, I am using Wordpress and the seo by yoast..... I have heard that meta keywords and descriptions are no longer recognized or used by search engines with respect to page rankings in the serps. Is this true? If so, why do people still recommend using these? I thought content is king these days?

Profile Picture Display Next to Map on Google Search
On a recent Google search, I noticed that the top result also displayed the Google map of the location next to it but aside from that, it also displayed that business' Google+ Profile picture. I'm wondering how that is done. We have a Google+ account as well with an image associated with our business. At this point, the map doesn't even display for our business, but how does one get the map and the profile picture to appear on search results? Here's a link to the search result in question:

When did Google include display results per page into their ranking algorithm?
It looks like the change took place approx. 1-2 weeks ago. Example: A search for "business credit cards" with search settings at "never show instant results" and "50 results per page", the SERP has a total of 5 different domains in the top 10 (4 domains have multiple results). With the slider set at "10 results per page", there are 9 different domains with only 1 having multiple results. I haven't seen any mention of this change, did I just miss it? Are they becoming that blatant about forcing as many page views as possible for the sake of serving more ads?

HTML Not Validating META Title??!!
This seems pretty odd to me. HTML 5 is not validating lots of the typical META content - including, amongst others, the META title. This is typically seen as a standard 'must-have' for many SEOs, including the check-list on SEOmoz. Has anybody else had this issue? And of course, did you find a solution? Thanks, Mark
