Is using emoji's in meta descriptions a good or bad idea ? - I haven't seen it used much hence my query
-
Hello Mozzers,
We need to redo some of our meta descriptions as our CTR's are not to good. I've noticed one of my competitors using emoji's which I personally think looks pretty good.
They are using the Phone icon and ticks - as calls to action etc
However, I can't see hardly anyone else using them on general serps ...so I am wondering , is it a bad idea ?
thanks
Pete

Many thanks Moosa, that's pretty much what I thought.

First thing first: Meta description is not really a part of the ranking signal (atleast not major if it really have any impact at all) so you have to care more about your audience and how they will react on it instead of the search engines.
Emoji is not a common trend and I haven’t seen any business using this in their description but if your competitors are using and you think your audience will like it, giving it a try won’t hurt you. Make sure you keep a full tack of your CTR to see if the change increase or decrease the CTR and click ratio.
If the results are positive, stick with that, if not move back accordingly.
Just a thought!

Should I use LocalBusiness schema on my home page or Contact Us page?
I know I should only use Organization schema on one page of my site, but I'm not sure if I should use it on the Home page or use LocalBusiness schema on the home page. I was thinking of adding LocalBusiness schema to home page, Organization schema to About Us page and Corporate Contact Schema to Contact us page. Thoughts? Is there a best practice? I can't seem to find much information on what's best to use where.

Does having 3 city's in my Title Tag help or hurt me?
Hello!! I have a health insurance agency located in a small city. I need to reach more area's, and I'm wondering if adding a couple more cities to the Title Tag actually helps? Or should I go the other route and try achieving it with location landing pages? I've seen other websites do it, but I'm hesitant. Any advice welcome 🙂 The site is http://wilkersoninsuranceagency.com/ in Coppell, Tx It currently ranks 3rd on Google. Thank you in advance!! 🙂 xx

Ideas on competitors website jumping so quickly?
Aloha Moz community! I've been chipping away on my site and have been happy to see progress on getting to the first page for some searches I'd like to rank for. That being said and during my time doing this I noticed a fellow photographer jump to the first page out of what seems like nowhere! http://emilyhelen.com/ It left me scratching my head trying to figure out where and how they're site jumped up to the front so fast and has been holding strong since then. Do you guys have any ideas or ways I could replicate that? Much appreciated as always guys! Warmest aloha, Jon Gibb

Why does Intelligent Personal Assistant (IPA) gives different results than a Google search for a very similar or identical query?
My client Dr. Harris ranks #1 in SERPs and Local results for many terms, including "hair transplant surgeon Denver" However, when I did a voice search w Siri ""find me a hair transplant surgeon in Denver" Siri said she could find no results. A similar search for a clinic returned 2 competitors, but not my client. How do I ensure we are served up in voice queries? This surgeon deserves it, he invented most of the technology in use in the world today.

Please tell me why we can't outrank a competitor with such poor metrics
Hi ! New here I'm trying to help a customer rank in the 1st page on a low-mid competition term in a specific city. I did a comparison of both URL in MOZ "Compare link Metrics" & we beat them on 85% of the metrics. They are on the 1st page, often top-3, the closest position we can get is about 13-15. The only higher metric they have is Domain MozRank & MozTrust + equity passing link (??) We are running WordPress with Genesis, they are running a custom site. See attached printscreen of the report. Blocking non-U.S. traffic to fight referral spam?
I've been thinking about ways to deal with referral spam in Google Analytics. From what I can tell, most if not all of this is coming from outside the U.S. I'd love any insight into the following questions related to this issue: For U.S. based local businesses, I'm wondering if we should just block all traffic from outside of the U.S. -would there be negative SEO factors if we use this approach? Would it be better to just create GA segments to filter out this traffic, rather than actually blocking it? Has anyone found success in using filters or segments in this way? Is anyone seeing referral spam from within the U.S.? Edit: I just came across this suggestion, that setting 2 filters (for invalid hostname and screen resolution) can solve most of the issue. Any insight on this alternative vs. my ideas above?? https://www.distilled.net/resources/quick-fix-for-referral-spam-in-google-analytics/

Adwords: Great ideas on low hanging fruit for hypnosis center
Hi, I want to start a very limited in funds adwords campaign to get signups for my newsletter, an example signup form is on the right of this page. I've advertised with adwords before. One additional thing I need is a spend $25 get $100 coupon, but I bet I can do a google search for that. The campaign will only be for the area in and around Boise, ID. It will only be for women who want to lose weight. My main investment is facebook ads to a landing page with a video to sign up for my newsletter, but is there some way to harvest the low hanging fruit easily in adwords where ads lead to signups in my niche? I have a lot of technical background and am looking for kickass ideas. Thanks! 126fajdkql

Will a cool mapping app be a good idea?
We have come up with an idea to add a cool mapping app to our website. This will enable users to find locations to be able to play a range of games in their local vicinity, such as pool/table tennis/pinball/arcade games/foosball. Players and venues will be able to add locations to our mapping system. They can add a review, details, what machines/equipment is there, add photos. The owner can add any special offers or events. Potential benefits: Community - finding places to play these games is hard. This would be great for everyone who loves these games to find new places to play them Engagement - visitors to our site will find this really useful and show us more love and respect SEO - this is the tricky bit... If we ask venue owners to show a "We're listed!" logo on their homepage linking back to our mapping system will this be beneficial to us SEO wise? Potential positives: lots of relevant homepage backlinks to us lots of relevant visitors to our mapping system who may choose to peruse the rest of our website Potential issues: will this type of backlink be viewed poorly by Google? will the relatively low DA of the sites that will be linking to us weaken our link profile? This will be a massive project for us to undertake, both financially to build the app but also for us to populate our maps by contacting all the relevant locations to invite them to participate. Any insight, views or experience the Moz community can share with us on this would be gratefully received!
