Questionable SEO
-
Chess Telecom appears first when you search for 'business phone lines' in the UK so I used a campaign to check them out.
It seems they've got tons of unrelated links and using comment spamming to increase their ranking. Along with fake twitter accounts and other things.
Search for 'jewel jubic chess' and you'll see what i mean.
I assumed this wasnt a good idea and been trying to get my link on relevant websites only.
Any comments or suggestions? Should I simply trust that google will hopefully punish them eventually? Or should I be fighting fire with fire?
Thanks
Dan

Yes I can understand the pain and frustrations of yours. Same thing happens with me when my clients show me sites that are doing all sort of spammy link building things and ranking high. It is like have fun until you get caught. What I believe is that the purpose of penguin update is to punish low quality websites that do not deserve to be on the top, but are still enjoying top ranking because of some questionable back links. So, I would rather suggest you to hold on to your patience because there is no point in making your website vulnerable to Google’s algo update.

Hi Dan,
If it's clear they are doing comment spam and gaining high volume low quality links from irrelevant domains I'm not sure you have to much to worry about.
With Penguin and Panda on the loose sooner or later i'm sure they'll take a hit.
Trust in doing the right thing......high quality content on relevant target domains with varied anchor text. Or take a note from SEOMoz's book, create a location where your community can come an interact and gain relevant shareable information. UGC from multiple trusted sources on your site being linked to from everywhere.
And perhaps try not to go after such a competitive high value term like "business phone lines" perhaps try similar more long tail terms that are less competitive but combined outweigh the head term. Like "uk business phone lines" etc.
Good Luck.

Impact of Non SEO Subdomains
My company has several subdomains whose specific purpose is to act as a landing page/site for our paid search and/or email program. One of the things I've noticed on these subdomains is that they are not being excluded from the SEObots. Could the lack of proper SEO techniques on these subdomains impact our main www subdomain? What is the proper configuration we should use to make sure these sites are not considered for SEO?

Duplicate content question...
I have a high duplicate content issue on my website. However, I'm not sure how to handle or fix this issue. I have 2 different URLs landing to the same page content. http://www.myfitstation.com/tag/vegan/ and http://www.myfitstation.com/tag/raw-food/ .In this situation, I cannot redirect one URL to the other since in the future I will probably be adding additional posts to either the "vegan" tag or the "raw food tag". What is the solution in this case? Thank you

Craw Diagnostics Questions
SEO Moz is reporting that I have 50+ pages with a duplicate content issue based on this URL: http://www. f r e d aldous.co.uk/art-shop/art-supplies/art-canvas.html?manufacturer=178 But I have included this tag in the source: rel="canonical" href="http://www.f r e daldous.co.uk/art-shop/art-supplies/art-canvas.html"/> (I have purposefully added white space to the URLs in this message as I'm not sure about the rules for posting links here) I though this "canonical" tag prevented the duplicate content being indexed? is the reporting by SEOMoz wrong or being over cautious?

301 Redirect Question
I'm working on a site that has a lot of indexed pages and backlinks to both domain.com and www.domain.com. Will using a 301 redirect to send domain.com to www.domain.com merge all of the indexed pages and links over to www.domain.com, thereby strengthening the www?

URL Structure Question
Hey folks, I have a weird problem and currently no idea how to fix it. We have a lot of pages showing up as duplicates although they are the same page, the only difference is the url structure. They seem to show up like: http://www.example.com/page/ and http://www.example.com/page What would I need to do to force the URLs into one format or the other to avoid having that one page counting as two? The same issue pops up with upper and lower case: http://www.example.com/Page and http://www.example.com/page Is there any solution to this or would I need to forward them with 301s or similar? Thanks, Mike
