Page Speed/Website Optimization Question
-
We recently relaunched our website and after running multiple page speed tests (GT Metrix, Google, etc.) our results aren't great.
We would love any suggestions on how to improve our site as we are not experts in what exactly these results mean - https://gtmetrix.com/reports/loyalty360.org/DKRN0hKg.
Thanks!

It's best to use dimensions in your img code, since this helps speed up the whole rendering process, and if those images are already scaled both in size and resolution for that image size, then things work even better. This is what image optimization is all about, creating less file waste both in time and size during page loads for the user.
The best way to prevent distortion with images, is to make sure they are scaled for their size and resolution, using a image editing program like photoshop ( paid ) or Gimp ( free opensource ) you can properly scale the images in just a way to keep the pixels at the right variables for the image quality.
Here are a few articles to help explain further.

http://guides.lib.umich.edu/c.php?g=282942&p=1888162
And a website that claims will resize without loosing quality, but be warned, I have not used it, just appeared in results and felt it could be of use.

Thanks!
One question I do have - do you typically recommend setting image dimensions/ratios in the code, or no? We have faced an issue in the past with this where if are image or logo is not the correct size (ex: a rectangular logo trying to fit in a square box) everything gets distorted. I am just curious if this is a best practice, or you typically recommend just uploading images at a particular size each time.

Deacyde is spot on here! Page load is a HUGE deal in several aspects of your optimization.
Get those images tweaked and clean up those redirects (I need to do the same on a few of my sites). Good luck!!

Hello,
Page loading speed is a huge deal, not just in SEO matters, but for user experience that will equal SEO value as well.
From a glance:
1. Images are a big factor - what these means is many images might be saved as too high a filesize or maybe the resolutions are too much for what is needed, normally under 800px by 800px unless you have a image site and even then a image optimization strategy would be helpful there. **Way to fix this: **Go through your images and add file dimensions as well edit their image size to better fit what is needed ( many images are saved as 1000 x 1000 but are rendering as 100 x 100 so you could resave them as 150 x 150 and save a lot of time ) also make sure filesizes are normally under 100kb Read more - https://developers.google.com/web/fundamentals/performance/optimizing-content-efficiency/image-optimization?hl=en Try sites like this - http://optimizilla.com/
2. You have a good sized redirect chain going, I understand you want to keep link juice going, but maybe look further into what is being redirected and if they are being done as you need them, or if you could stand to prune them a bit.
Mainly though, seems you will see a huge improvement if you do some image optimization, since that is the bulk of your loading issue.
Hope this helps! And I'm sure others can add more about the report, such as browser caching, the search queries in urls and a few others I didn't mention.

Hi, I purchased an old domain with a lot of links that I'm redirecting to my site. I want all of their links to redirect to the same page on my site so I can approach this two different ways: Entire site

1.) RedirectMatch 301 ^(.*)$ http://www.xyz.com or Page by page
2). Redirect 301 /retiredpage.html http://www.xyz.com/newpage.html Is there a better option I should go with in regards to SEO effectiveness? Thanks in advance!0 -
A/B testing entire website VS Seo issues
I'm familar with A/B testing variations of a page but I'd like to A/B test a new designs version of a e-commerce site. I´m wondering about the best way to test with SEO concerns... this is what I´ve in mind right now, any suggestion? Use parameters to make version B different from A version. Redirect 50% of the users with 302 ( or javascript would be a better way?) Use noindex in the B pages. Use rel=canonical in the B pages pointing to A version. In the end use 301 redirect to all B pages to A urls. PS: We can´t use subdomain and i don´t wanna use robots.txt file to protect the new design from competitors. I´d love any suggestions and tips about it - thanks folks 🙂

Website Hierarchy Question / Discussion
Hey all, I am looking to get the opinions off the community to help settle a discussion / debate. We are looking at how a site is laid out and which is the preferred method. There are two options: www.site.com --> /category-page --> /product-page (With this option, you always have the domain name and then page, no matter where in the site you actually are, and how many clicks it took you to get there). Your URL to the end page here would be www.site.com/product-page www.site.com --> /category-page --> /category-page/product-page --> (With this option, you into a defined structure). Your URL to the end page here would be www.site.com/category-page/product-page If you have a moment, I would be interested to know your views on which you would consider to be your preferred method and why. Thanks, Andy

My beta site (beta.website.com) has been inadvertently indexed. Its cached pages are taking traffic away from our real website (website.com). Should I just "NO INDEX" the entire beta site and if so, what's the best way to do this? Please advise.

How to redirect my .com/blog to my server folder /blog ?
Hello SEO Moz ! Always hard to post something serious for the 04.01 but anyway let's try ! I'm releasing Joomla websites website.com, website.com/fr, website.com/es and so on. Usually i have the following folders on my server [ROOT]/com [ROOT]/com/fr [ROOT]/com/es However I would like to get the following now (for back up and security purpose). [ROOT]/com [ROOT]/es [ROOT]/fr So now what can I do (I gues .htaccess) to open the folder [ROOT]/es when people clic on website.com/es ? It sounds stupid but I really don't know. I found this on internet but did not answer my needs. .htaccess RewriteEngine On

Translating Page Titles & Page Descriptions
I am working on a site that will be published in the original English, with localized versions in French, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese. All the versions will use the English information architecture. As part of the process, we will be translating the page the titles and page descriptions. Translation quality will be outstanding. The client is a translation company. Each version will get at least four pairs of eyes including expert translators, editors, QA experts and proofreaders. My question is what special SEO instructions should be issued to translators re: the page titles and page descriptions. (We have to presume the translators know nothing about SEO.) I was thinking of: stick to the character counts for titles and descriptions make sure the title and description work together avoid over repetition of keywords page titles (over-optimization peril) think of the descriptions as marketing copy try to repeat some title phrases in the description (to get the bolding and promote click though) That's the micro stuff. The macro stuff: We haven't done extensive keyword research for the other languages. Most of the clients are in the US. The other language versions are more a demo of translation ability than looking for clients elsewhere. Are we missing something big here?

Why is an error page showing when searching our website using Google "site:" search function?
When I search our company website using the Google site search function "site:jwsuretybonds.com", a 400 Bad Request page is at the top of the listed pages. I had someone else at our company do the same site search and the 400 Bad Request did not appear. Is there a reason this is happening, and are there any ramifications to it?

Looking to hire someone to help on my website. On page issues with subpages outranking homepage
Hello, I have a site that has been doing good for quite a while now. But lately I'm running into issues with on page seo. I have ranked well for long periods of time, but changes like adding content or moving stuff around has bumped me out of the rankings. I would prefer not to publicly disclose the site. My main keyword I rank for is "word1 word2". I notice if I do a site: search for "word1 word2" homepage is #1, site search for just word1 it's #1 as well, but the word2 returns a category listing above the homepage. I noticed this happen right as I fell back from the rankings. I am looking to hire an SEO profession to help me out with on page issues. I've come to admit that I just don't understand something about this and I need help from someone who has a lot of experience with this. I was hoping to find recommendations by people here for a company I could hire for this. I would want to pay no more than $1,000. I hope that budget is high enough to get a skilled individual/company working with me. I'm not sure where to search for online to get a skilled on page seo professional, so I thought a personal recommendation from someone here would possibly be able to help. Thanks
