Recommendations for Magento hosting
-
Any recommendations for hosting companies in the UK to host a large-ish Magento site?
Also is it worthwhile going after someone who specialises in Magento hosting or not?
Don't really want to go down a dedicated server root due to cost.
Hints, tips and advice much appreciated
Thank you in advance

HI,
If it is a largish shop I would probably go for a Magento hosting partner / specialist. Magento is a resource hog and specialists will have tweaked certain settings in the db / php / server setup to address magento specific performance issues. Costs a bit more but you can rest easy that it is setup the way it should be. Have heard good comments about nexcess but haven't any direct experience with them....

Found the link to TSO's magento hosting... https://www.tsohost.com/web-hosting/magento-hosting

Although I haven't personally used these guys, I hear TSO is good. Plus I think they even have a special Magento hosting plan.
Can you go with a VPS? We're not on Magento but are using Godaddy's (actually from a reseller) servers and it's been great.

H2 tags always recommended? Or ok without?
Is it ok to have no h2 tags? There are no "keywords" relevant to the product in these example h2 tags. Also, is it ok to not have a PRODUCT DESCRIPTION header, or is it better with that header? It's for a "product page". Examples: <h1>Used Bow Front Desk With Mahogany Laminate</h1> <h2 style="display:inline;">QTY:</h2> 3 - <h2 style="display:inline;">Manufacturer:</h2> Hon <h2>Product Description:</h2> <p>This bow front desk is in excellent condition. It has a beautiful mahogany laminate.</p> OR (no h2 tags or product description header at all) <h1>Used Bow Front Desk With Mahogany Laminate</h1> <p>QTY: 3 - Manufacturer: Hon</p> <p>This bow front desk is in excellent condition. It has a beautiful mahogany laminate.</p> I prefer the last one as it's much simpler, but I'm curious if search engines would prefer the existence of h2 tags in the first version. Thanks,

Will pushing a visitor to a conversion page hosted on a 3rd-party domain hurt the landing page ranking
Had an interesting question from a client. The client has a page that is optimized for a specific term. The goal of the page is to push users to sign-up for a trial. The trial registration (conversion) page is hosted by a third-party. Will pushing users to the conversion page cannibalize the SEO authority of the landing page. My reflexive answer is to say no, but now am not so sure.

Recommended Wordpress themes for great SEO
Hi there, I'm trying to decide which theme to use. My main concern is if the theme has been built using a stable framework to ensure plugin compatibility for SEO. Also a general question, does the homepage need to have a certain amount of text content for SEO, or can other pages be SEO optimised with text / keyword? Some of the nicer themes seem to have a sparce text to image ratio on the homepage. I quite like this as an initial 'welcome' but worry this isn't great for SEO. Any suggested themes / advice will be welcome. Thanks

Recommended Length for a Companies "Services" Page Content
I am in the process of revamping my company's website. I do WordPress Development, Design, and SEO consulting, and i'm running into a sort of writer's block when wring my services pages. For example, my page on WordPress Security has 388 words of "body" content, and I feel from a content perspective, it serves it's purpose, but from an SEO perspective it is considered a little light. I really don't know what the SOP is here, because, I've literally seen competitors sites have a page on "WordPress Security" rank on the first page of Google with absolutely no content, an empty page. I see a lot of the Moz posts are huge, thosands of words, and I know they perform very well (and they also have ton's of links / PR...etc) and I just want to do the right thing. I know sites like http://www.seerinteractive.com/our-services/search-engine-optimization have relatively short info pages as well. Thanks in advance for your feedback. Webpages load times and godaddy shared hosting vs. others
Has anyone gone from shared hosting godaddy to either virtual or dedicated with godaddy or even another provider and noticed faster load times without changing anything on your site. Any recommendations on hosting providers?

Does Changing Hosting Provider Affect SEO?
I am having a site with more than 1,500 visits per day and I have suffered from two "blackouts" of one day each with my actual hosting Provider. I would like to change the Hosting Provider, but I am afraid of losing lots of visitors if I do the change. The change will be to a dedicated IP and the location of the IP will be in the same country. Will my site be affected on SEO results as a consecuence of this change? Thanks and regards Maria

Best Way To Host Images For Image Optimization
I need an image optimization expert to tell me whether or not we are hosting images properly for SEO. Currently, we upload all images to Picasa and then call them out with a webpart in our content management system. See example here - http://www.tennisnow.com/Photos/2011-BNP-Paribas-Open-Day-5.aspx Here's an example of the url that is attached to each image - http://lh5.ggpht.com/_1Oyc-Zgkrpk/TX5H-Pfyd7I/AAAAAAAARbc/nG3Cw-G5tsY/s400/1215548409_FU9xA-L.jpg We have a lot of images, and we've hosted them on Picasa for speed purposes based on a recommendation from our developer (makes the pages load faster). I've read that Google can now factor page load time into its ranking parameters. We are not seeing the images from each photo gallery being indexed on images.google.com. We are torn. What should we do to rank for these images?
