The Local SEO test is at https://mza.seotoolninja.com/blog/local-search-expert-quiz-2016. I would use it as a jumping off point for making your own test (and randomizing the questions), rather than simply having potential candidates take the Moz one.

awesoem answer .. thanks for the feedback and tips! - I will 100% incorporate this basic question " what are you looking for from this role?" as we dont have it in our stock questions, and its important!
And we will go Mortal Combat as well!

The two round interview idea is great but in my personal opinion, it will work better for an agency. I have worked for years in different In-house companies and from the experience, I am telling you that success of in-house is depends upon multiple factors.
If you are hiring a single person to handle your complete SEO, than you are looking for a guy who can understand the ins and out of your business, can write about it, do competitor analysis, outreach, build links and build reports and present it to the CEO.
Unlike agency where they have a set culture relevant for SEO and digital marketing, In-house culture is more business orientated where the guy will be sitting around non-SEO people.
What I mean to say here is that when you search for in-house guy you should look for a person who know their game well plus they understand your business and have management skills unlike agency where all they need is a good writer and they give them on-the-job training.
Just a thought!

Hi Bryan,
No offence taken by any of us, I'm sure. It's an unfortunate fact that our industry has a number of... dodgy providers.
In any case, our process is quite similar to Danny in that we use a 2 stage interview process and a test.
Ours is broken into 2 parts. A very short phone interview to cover the boring old cliche questions like "why did you leave your last job?" and " what are you looking for from this role?" I'll also throw in a bit of a qualifying question that could raise some obvious red flags so I can filter out the ones that just aren't going to work out. This saves my time and, more importantly, saves their time and travel costs. If they're out of work, the last thing they need is to be travelling to an interview they just aren't right for.
For those that make it past this step, they're invited in for a face to face interview. This one is about getting to know who they are; no technical questions. This gives me a solid indication of whether or not they'll be a good cultural fit for our team (very important to us here!) and if this seems fine, they're asked to complete a 10-question test which should take about 5 - 10 minutes.
It asks basic questions that anyone with the experience required for the role will almost roll their eyes at because it's so easy - "what is the purpose of a page title and where is the average user likely to see it most?" - that type of thing.
All of this lets me know what sort of technical ability they have, how well they can communicate, what sort of person they are, what they're looking to achieve and whether or not they can articulate answers to basic questions under a bit of pressure.
Then, if we end up with 2 candidates who seem evenly matched in every way, we arrange a Mortal Kombat style fight to the death.
Seriously though, being ecommerce, if you do go this route make sure you include specific questions about SEO for ecommerce. They can fall under a few different rules as far as how they should be set out, how to deal with potential content duplication etc.

Hi Bryan,
I run my own agency that is growing quite fast and we need skilfull and knowledgable SEOs on board quite often. We post job offerings on our site, on social media such as LinkedIn, Ineed, local HR magazine, Craigslist. We asked them to provide is with links of recent work along with resume. Once they come to the interview and we feel good about them. We have second sets of interviews which is longer interview with a test, last time I used local SEO moz online test and it worked well, also no hard feelings from applicants.
Thanks for invitation to move to Florida, I guess link is missing with employment opportunity, so potential seos experts can apply.
Good luck Bryan

Found hidden pages of outbound links created via ex-SEO consultant. Best way to detect other possible problems?
We paid for an SEO contract in addition to our new website design (same company did both) and after 12 months cancelled the SEO. I have been very suspicious ever since of our bad page rank and general lack of traffic (despite my efforts) and today found a hidden page of outbound links. Currently in shock that this happened although my own fault for lack of due diligence. The SEO consultants were very unhappy that I cancelled the contract so I am worried about the extent of bad links or negative google juice they may have created (god knows what else they may have done). So my questions are: How can I detect any other (potentially hidden) problems? How can I recover from this - any right/wrong way to approach google? What is the best way to bring this up with the SEO consultants? Thank you in advance.

I need to find a writer that is SEO savvy yet great with hooks, editing, and.....
I need to find a writer that is SEO savvy yet great with 1. Hooks (like hooking the user in. This site for instance has "Inbound marketing is complicated. Moz's software makes it easy". 2. Editing - Someone that is again SEO savvy, and doesn't mind editing my text. (Focused mainly on the text for the site right now, articles will be later.) 3. Explaining something complicated in a simple way that engages the user. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe even someone they use / used? Or which site do you all like best for finding a writer? I registered at textbroker.com but maybe need to look harder...just wasn't seeing anyone that matched that criteria. My budget isn't high, but I believe in paying for quality, so even if I have to pay a high rate for excellent work, they'll also have to be cool with me only doing a page here and a page there every few days or so, as my writing budget for my new site is only $50-$120 a week right now.

The pages that add robots as noindex will Crawl and marked as duplicate page content on seo moz ?
When we marked a page as noindex with robots like {<meta name="<a class="attribute-value">robots</a>" content="<a class="attribute-value">noindex</a>" />} will crawl and marked as duplicate page content(Its already a duplicate page content within the site. ie, Two links pointing to the same page). So we are mentioning both the links no need to index on SE.But after we made this and crawl reports have no change like it tooks the duplicate with noindex marked pages too. Please help to solve this problem.

Local SEO Rankings Report Tools (based on several locations)?
Hi, Just a quick question. I am looking for a Rankings Report tool that allows a user to not only provide a list of Keywords, but also a list of Locations for which to check Google UK's ranking results. In practice, I would like to be able to enter 6 names of Towns next to my keyword list and get "localised results". Many thanks in advance, Cheers Greg

Hey from a New guy to SEO
Hi everybody!!! Hope everybody is dandy. Have spent a long time looking into SEOmoz and decided to just take the plunge and see what happens. Im quite new to the world of SEO but I really want to get good at it. Hoping Moz and this community will aid with this! Currently in the process of reading the SEO beginners guide and the SEOmoz user guide! The two sites that I am currently working on are: 1. www.advanced-incar.co.uk 2. www.advanced-incarcamerasystems.com The first site seems to have crawled well and have entered my competitors and am getting some info back (looks like I have a lot of work to do judging by the errors D'oh) In the world of Google what is the best way to ensure you have authority on certain terms. For instance if I search advanced-incar we are top and we have all our sitelinks underneath etc etc, but when I search advanced incar we are second and as such we don't display sitelinks. Any ideas? The second site was built using 1&1 and gives us a good little site for what we need. I have found out through research the most popular keywords are in car camera & in car cameras. Currently Im using Adwords to get us sponsored hits which is getting us some nice traffic but costing a bit. Those are the two main keywords i want this site to really hit home with. Any advice? Also on this site, when I go to SEOmoz and select Link Analysis I get no info. It just shows 0 or 0.0 wheras my competitor sites all have values against them. Is something wrong with my site or what im doing? (Have added an example screenshot) I appreciate its a long ended question but would really appreciate some help. Hoping that the guides will help me understand all this linkjuice stuff etc as well! Thanks guys, really appreciative of any info you can provide. Automated SEO Report for Agencies
I have a lot of SEO reports to send out, SEO Moz is awesome but it's not designed for this kind of work. I would like an automated report that does an on page optimization report on the potential client's site, finding errors etc it does not have to include fixes for each. This is just a basic report but it must look nice and be user friendly. I have looked at Raven and it looks ok however it does not have any decent On Page Optimization reports. I know I could crawl and then delete the campaign in SEO Moz but that is very time consuming and far from ideal. If anyone knows of a solution please let me know 🙂
