High total links, but very few root domains?
-
Hi Moz community!I've just joined and am getting to grips with SEO basics. Right now, I'm looking at the Competitive Link Metrics in Moz Pro, and I'm curious about the following-
Of the three competitors that we're following, I'm trying to figure out some differences between two of them - we'll call them A and B. 'A' has 3.6k external followed and total links, with 5 total linking root domains. 'B' (a more prestigious and established company with a much higher DA) has 2.2k total external links, with 180 root domains.
So my question is, how can A have nearly 1,000 more links, but only from 5 domains? Any feedback much appreciated! Thanks!

One of the typical ways a site ends up with a huge number of links, but from a small number of domains, is if they end up with a link in a footer or sidebar - something that appears sitewide/on every page. Or from social media sites. In these cases, the huge number of links probably aren't adding a lot of ranking influence.
That's not to say multiple links from one domain don't have value though. There are plenty of situations where an influential site could be linking to you in different contexts. These, I definitely believe, still pas ranking authority. And remember, the only purpose of links isn't ranking. If they're good links, they'll also be sending actual traffic and eyeballs!
Hope that helps?

I always like pointing out the linking C blocks when comparing the competition. If you're not familiar with linking C blocks, these are essentially IPs from servers of domains that are pointing to your site. You may have 10k backlinks, but they are coming from 2 C blocks. Ideally you would want to have a large variation of links, coming from an assortment of C blocks. In a nutshell you want to have links coming from all over, but make sure they are diverse, relevant, and high quality. It does take time.
Hope this helps.

Welcome to the Moz community, theguildedteapot! Happy that you're here.
When it comes to links, you should look at the number of root domains, and not links from each domain. For example, we typically really only "count" one or two links from each domain. Even though you have 1,000 links from one site, you really need to look at it as if it's one link.
Personally, I'd rather have 10 links from 10 domains than 100 links from 3 domains.

Why does the moz bar link count differ from the moz link analysis page
Hi all, Why does the Moz Bar show a different link count from the Moz link analysis page? For example, when I check the SERP below, for the first result, the bar shows 936 page links from 4 RDs. But when I check out the link analysis page, it tells me there are just 141 page links from 4 RDs. What gives? For the second entry, the bar shows 6 page links from 0 RDs. Not sure how that's possible. Can anyone explain these things. Thanks! Mozbar - No Link Results Populating
I am new to using the Mozbar and maybe I have missed a setting someplace, but in search results under the individual results only the page links are showing - no referring domains, no links or referring domains for the site. Here is what I am getting: https://www.dropbox.com/s/67rl5itsiou4hnq/1b.png?dl=0 Here is what I would like to see (with all 4 results showing) https://www.dropbox.com/s/ce71c9og48i7yk0/1b2.png?dl=0 Is there a setting I might have missed? I have reinstalled the extension, oh...about ...5 times or so hoping that would solve the problem, but still getting the same results. Any suggestions or how to get all 4 results to display? Thank you for your help or suggestions

How do I download a CSV of inbound links?
Just signed up and have a lot of (probably stupid) questions! When I go to my campaign in Moz Pro, Links, Link Analysis, I see a long list of inbound links. However, the only option is to export it into CSV via the Open Site Explorer, but when I open that up the list of links is completely different (and much smaller) than the one in the Link Analysis section. Is there a way to download the links listed in the Link Analysis section, and what is hhe different between the links listed here and in the OSE?

Duplicate page titles reported on same links
Moz is reporting duplicate titles on my clients website, citing different versions of the same link, one without dubs as domain.com/link and the other with dubs as www.domain.com/link. for example ... duplicate title = Warranty Requests For Custom New Home Construction in Jacksonville

duplicate title = Jacksonville Custom Home Builder, Quality Construction On Your Lot

http://myhjhome.com/
http://myhjhome.com/index.php
http://www.myhjhome.com/
http://www.myhjhome.com/index.php is this just something that's always going to be reported as a duplicate title or is there a way for me to change the website so Moz doesnt report a duplicate title on the same page (since there really isnt a duplicate title in these examples)?0 -

Mozbar highlight links in firefox
I use Mozbar to check for nofollow links on any website. Recently I changed from Chrome to Firefox and it appears that the link highlight function is behaving different on the latter.
Getting Started | | Trbl
On a page with nofollow in the robot.txt links are highlighted both when selecting nofollowed (pink) and followed (green) links. In Chrome it used to highlight only the nofollow links (as is correct in this case) Did anyone notice this behaviour too? Seems like a bug.0
