Transitioning to HTTPS, Do i have to submit another disavow file?
-
Hi Mozzers!
So we're finally ready to move from http to https. Penguin is finally showing us some love due to the recent algorithm updates. I just added the https to Google search console and before 301 redirecting the whole site to a secure environment.....do i upload the same disavow file to the https version?
Moreover, is it best to have both the http and https versions on Google Search console? Or should I add the disavow file to the https version and delete the http version in a month?
And what about Bing?
Help.
-
If Bing will allow you to do it then yes. I can't add "other" version for my websites so probably Bing covers "all".
-
What about for Bing? Do i create 4 variations?
-
so ok, just for disavows.
-
yes.
-
Just for adding disavow. Because you have redirects set well right?
-
Krzysztof,
Does that mean I have to add sitemaps to all 4 versions as well? Including data highlighter schema? Or the purpose of these 4 it to redundant disavow files?
Thank you
-
Hi Shawn
Yes. Make sure you have all properties in your Google Search Console: www.domain.com, domain.com, https://domain.com, https://www.domain.com even if you have redirects. If you don't, create them, verify, and upload disavow file to all 4 "versions". If you got some subdomains, do the same for them too.
Don't delete. Add to all 4.
Krzysztof

Will changing the property from http to https in Google Analytics affect main unfiltered view?
I set my client up with an unfiltered view in Google Analytics. This is the one with historical data going back for years, so I don't want to do anything that will affect this view. Recently, the website moved from HTTP to HTTPS. There's a setting for the property that will allow me to change the property name to https://EXAMPLE.com and change the default URL to https://EXAMPLE.com. Questions: 1. If I change the property name and the default URL, will this somehow affect my unfiltered view in a way that I'll lose historical data or data moving forward? 2. I have heard that changing the default URL to HTTPS will help me avoid a common problem others have experienced (where they lose the referrer in Google Analytics and a bunch of their sessions go to direct / other). Is this true?

Google Analytics direct traffic dropped by 50% after switching to https
Hi, everyone, have a little dilemma and was hoping to get some advice here. I recently installed a new SSL (3 months ago) to force our URL to start with https://. The site was earlier accessible through https:// and http:// prefix however now I have made it so that all urls are redirected to the correct https:// version. The problem is that direct traffic has dropped by more than 50% after implementing these changes and I can for the life of me figure out why. Why would the direct traffic drop all of sudden after making these changes? I am starting to suspect that the earlier data was inflated and that Google analytics was counting users coming from a http:// version of the URL to a https:// version of the URL was counted as direct traffic. Could that be it? Any other possible causes? Would really appreciate any guidance on this problem. Thanks

Submitting an 'HTTPS' sitemap.xml to Bing
I have been trying to submit my sitemap to Bing [via their webmaster tools] for well over a week and it continues to report 'pending' My site is HTTPS and the sitemap is accepted by Google. I questioned Bing about this and got this response: To set your expectations, our Sitemap fetchers use a different pipeline and because of this, we cannot crawl Sitemaps in HTTPS format. We require that you submit an HTTP version of sitemap in order for Bing to properly crawl the file. Please go ahead and delete the current Sitemap and resubmit a new one in HTTP. Currently I don't and can't have a HTTP version of my site & sitemap and my developers are telling me that 3hrs worth of dev time will go into coming up with a work-around which I'm not sure I want to invest in [I have more important things to concentrate my spend on!]. Has anyone been faced with this problem and is there any quick/cheap alternative or do I just accept that Bing won't crawl my site until they update their end?!

Https question
I had a site with an ssl certificate on. It has now been taken off. We are getting 404 errors on the weekly report for pages that were indexed as https What is the best way to get rid of these? How can I take them off the map or do we need to put the ssl back on? Thanks

Disavowed inks
If we disavow spammy links to our site in google, will the overall number of incoming links reported in webmaster tools reflect the drop? (assuming google indeed disavowed them).

Want to track AJAX form submits. Is this correct?
Hi! I would like to track everytime a visitor clicks a AJAX contact form's submit button. I created an event in Google Analytics and plan to add some javascript to the submit button code. This is the current submit button code: This is how it'll look after I add the category, action, etc.: Is this correct or am I missing something? Please let me know if you need further detail. Thanks a lot!

Google Links Disavow - Does that preclude new links from a domain?
If using Google disavow links tool and you disavow links from a 'domain' does that mean that any 'future or new links' from that domain will be blocked? Answer Yes is good if the domain is spammy but bad if the domain was submitted in error ........ Answer NO is good if the domain was submitted in error but bad if the site is spammy. Does anyone have an answer to this please? Also is there a disavow 'undo' request process available? cheers, Mike
