How do I measure the results of my local spam crackdown?
-
I've recently been cracking down on some spammy listings. How do I measure the success? Can I only do so with a third party tool like Moz?
Thanks!

Got it! Thanks for the further details.
Now, if you're a Moz Local customer at the Professional level, you can sync up your GMB listing to your Moz Local dashboard and we'd show you month by month gains your listing was making in terms of impressions and cool KPIs like clicks-to-call, clicks-to-website and clicks-for-directions, but when it comes to absolute proof that your edits resulted in a reordering of the results, I'm not aware of a tool that would offer such proof. The problem is, your edits could be responsible for pack movement, but ranking changes can occur for so many reasons, like a Google update, a guideline violation, a competitor doing a better or worse job building authority or links. So, to say, "I did this and, presto, the rankings were affected," has to be more of a hypothesis than a provable fact, because there are just too many variables at play. What if the pack was partly impacted by what you did, but also partly impacted by the fact that a competitor just had malware show up on their website? You can't really track all those aspects.
So, whether you take screenshots on a daily basis to track ranking changes, use analytics like Moz Pro, or are looking at the data in the Moz Local dashboard, I believe the best you can come up with is a theory, rather than absolute proof.

I would love to track ranking shifts. I'm thinking that while I may be appearing on the first page of Google Maps, I may be right under SpammyListing 1 and SpammyListing 2. I'm not sure how to prove that my edit drove them down though, and as a result, pushed me up.

Hi There!
Applause from me for trying to do your part to crack down on spam listings. What, specifically, are you hoping to track? Ranking shifts? Something else? Please, share as much as you can. Thanks!

Moz Local and NAP
Hi, I go to moz local and i get 4 listings and is shows 2 as verified: Verified
Local Listings | | dansum
Northumberland Ave, Bury Saint Edmunds, Verified
Northumberland Avenue, Bury St Edmunds, Both of them tell me I have 13% inconsistency and the two words that are underlined in red as inconsistent are:
Ave, Saint My google places has it listed as:
Northumberland Ave
Bury St Edmunds My website and 4 of the 11 listings have it as:
Northumberland Avenue, Bury St. Edmunds The other 7 listings have it as:
Northumberland Avenue, Bury St. Edmunds Is this a problem do you think these very slight inconsistencies matter? If so should they all match what google places says the address is (I did try changing this from Ave to Avenue on google places but it wouldn't change)?1 -
What is personalisation when it comes to local search?
Hi Everyone. This may be a silly question but I was reviewing the 2014 Local Search Ranking Factors article produce by MOZ:

I am unsure about the reference to "personalisation" which seems to account for 8.4% of the overall weight. Everything else is pretty clear as there is a quick description and examples for each topic but not for personalisation. Does anyone know what it includes?0 -
Do Citations help will all local rankings/Pages on my website or just the page it's linked to
Hi All, My ecommerce site has different category/landing pages for each of my branches . I'm currently getting some more citations done as wondered the following Is it a general rule to say, that the more citations you have the better as long as they are consistent and free? Given that I have different categories /landing pages showing the NAP of my individual branches along with unique content, should all these extra citations help with local rankings across my whole site or is it usually just helping the specific localized webpage it's pointing to ? I can get a company to help me do my citations but to do all the branches, it is going to be quite expensive. Is citations quite a big individual SEO factor in local search as opposed to on page seo factors etc etc. Any advice greatly appreciated. thanks Peter

Local Search - Multiple Locations, do i link the home page or the inner page?
Hello, For a business with multiple locations that has a web url built for each location such as: Website.com/miami Website.com/los-angeles For local search (Google+, Yelp, etc), is it best to link the local search pages to the specific page of that location? Or is the homepage sufficient enough? I ask that because it is ALREADY touch getting NATURAL links to a location page, so would local search do me good by linking to the exact page of the location?

Craigslist key word spamming/flagging?
I really trust the MOZ communities opinions on this and would appreciate any help. Our company has a competitor that puts our brand name in the majority of their craigslist ads. If you search craigslist for our product name, 80-90% of the results are this one company. Can anyone recommend a REPUTABLE flagging service that can flag their ads that break the craigslist TOS by using keyword spam? I'm open to any and all suggestions.
