Does anyone know of a Google update in the past few days?
-
Have seen a fairly substantial drop in Google search console, I'm still looking into it comparing things, but does anyone know if there's been a Google updates within the past few days? Or has anyone else noticed anything?
Thanks

According to Google search console between 18th of May and 21st of May. We had a temporary big position drop, with apparently no change in traffic volume but CTR seems to have dropped a bit and not recovered. Ever since then the graph is quite choppy compared to before but avg position & CTR seem to remain fairly constant.
Crosschecking to traffic in GA this month's traffic compared to last has dropped by about 5% but that could be related to seasonal changes.
With regards to positions I normally monitor weekly to cut out some of the noise that happens with Google these days. What do you use the daily tracking?

Just check my rankings monitor and have noted that there was a bit on a gain for myself over night, seeing a couple of page one terms jump a place whilst a few of my competitors have dropped. Will keep an eye out and see if just a blip. Google could be testing something.

Didn't actually mean to close this off yet, but hopefully people continue to comment.
Appreciate the input so far, I'm continuing to look into it from the stats that I have my end and can't type to any think that we have done.
We're pretty clean on SEO, we don't go in for buying links or any think of that sort.Negative SEO could be a factor but we do keep an eye on that. So that should show before long.
But it definitely looks like the something going on with the rankings and not relating to black hat stuff just poor law-abiding citizens losing their traffic
Maybe Google got it wrong this time!

Was going to go say check this post out on SeoRoundTable but Alick3000 beat me to it.
Nothing is showing up on Algaroo as the minute, and i've notice the moscast metric has been pretty high for a while now, unsure if it needs recalibrating etc

Google have said that they will announce big updates, but for the most part, they update about twice a day so there is always something happening.
It does look like something has been going on recently through - but nothing confirmed.
Cheers,
Andy

Getting Google to index our sitemap
Hi, We have a sitemap on AWS that is retrievable via a url that looks like ours http://sitemap.shipindex.org/sitemap.xml. We have notified Google it exists and it found our 700k urls (we are a database of ship citations with unique urls). However, it will not index them. It has been weeks and nothing. The weird part is that it did do some of them before, it said so, about 26k. Then it said 0. Now that I have redone the sitemap, I can't get google to look at it and I have no idea why. This is really important to us, as we want not just general keywords to find our front page, but we also want specific ship names to show links to us in results. Does anyone have any clues as to how to get Google's attention and index our sitemap? Or even just crawl more of our site? It has done 35k pages crawling, but stopped.

Can you index a Google doc?
We have updated and added completely new content to our state pages. Our old state content is sitting in a our Google drive. Can I make these public to get them indexed and provide a link back to our state pages? In theory it sounds like a great link building strategy... TIA!

Why are some pages indexed but not cached by Google?
The question is simple but I don't understand the answer. I found a webpage that was linking to my personal site. The page was indexed in Google. However, there was no cache option and I received a 404 from Google when I tried using cache:www.thewebpage.com/link/. What exactly does this mean? Also, does it have any negative implication on the SEO value of the link that points to my personal website?

Check Google ban on domainname
Hello all, If I wanted to know if a domainname has a google ban on it would the following be a good idea to test it. Place an article on the domain page with unique content and then link to the page so its gets indexed and then link to the article from a well indexed page. If it doesn't get indexed there might be a ban on the page, if it does get indexed there is no ban on the page... Or are there other points I should keep in mind while doing this. All help is very welcome. Cheers, Arnout
