Finding non-linked brand mentions
-
Hi, i have a client whose brand name is a common phrase used in English, so i'm gI'ming 1000s of alerts of non-linked brand mentions but 98% most of them are not the brand.
Are there any tools which you can apply advanced filters so it can figure out if it's the brand or commonly use phrase?
Cheers

You need one of the robust social media monitoring tools which provide advanced boolean search queries. Many tools only allow 3 boxes (include any of these terms, must include these terms, exclude these terms), and there is no way to imply proximity or use context. The only way to really trim the results to what is relevant is to use boolean logic.
For example, if you were monitoring for amazon, you could exclude:
(amazon AND (jungle OR brazil OR rainforest OR "rain forest")).Or use proximity like:
(amazon NEAR/5 (shopping OR products OR ecommerce OR e-commerce)).Additionally you can look for user intent with phrases like:
("shopping on" OR "buy from" OR "need to shop" OR "research products on") NEAR/3 amazonObviously these examples are just small samples of what can be done. Some queries for common words may end up being 2000 characters long to catch all use cases. But without the ability to create custom boolean queries that include nesting parenthesis, quotes for phrases and proximity operators like NEAR, the other tools won't help.
In a previous job, I wrote a white paper explaining why Boolean is important for social media monitoring and provide some tips on what to look for in a social media monitoring tool: https://www.dragonsearch.com/files/social-media-monitoring-tools-boolean-search-query.pdf
Good luck!

Benefit of internal link in content
Hi, Is there a real benefit to having internal links in content other than at the bottom of a page for example and not surrounded by content. Would the benefit be 1 to 10 or 1 to 1.5 ? Thank you,

Should we optimise our internal links?
Hi again, We recently had a technical search audit done by a specialist agency and they discovered a number of internal links that caused redirects to happen. The agency has recommended we update all of these links to link directly to the destination so we don't lose out on link equity. We'd just like to know if you think this would be a worthwhile use of our time. Our web team seem to think that returning a 301 to a crawler means that the crawler will stop indexing the original URL and instead index the redirected destination? Thanks all. Clair

Links: Links come from bizzare pages
Hi all, My question is related to links that I saw in Google Search Console. While looking at who is linking to my site, I saw that GSC has some links that are coming from third party websites but these third party webpages are not indexed and not even put up by their owners. It looks like the owner never created these pages, these pages are not indexed (when you do a site: search in Google) but the URL of these pages loads content in the browser. Example - www.samplesite1.com/fakefolder/fakeurl what exactly is this thing? To mention more details, the third party website in question is a Wordpress website and I guess is probably hijacked. But how does one even get these types pages/URLs up and running on someone else's website and then link out to other websites. I am concerned as the content that I am getting link from is adult content and I will have to do some link cleansing soon.

Should I have as few internal links as possible?
On most pages of my site i have a Quick Links section, which gives x3 cross sales links to other products, a newsletter sign up link, link to Blog, x4 links from images to surveys, newsletters, feedback etc. Will these links be hurting my optimal SEO juice between pages, should the number of internal links be kept to a minimum? My site is www.over50choices.co.uk if that helps. Thanks

PR links
Its seems that at lot of or competitors are using PR site to place articles with links. They are using the same article across many sites with the same anchor text link - But they seem to be doing very well in the rankings.... I have steered away from this type of linking as I assumed Google wouldn't be keen on this type of activity but I seem to be wrong.... Any views on this?

Help Identifying Unnatural Links
http://bit.ly/XT8yYYHi,Any help with the below will be most appreciated. We received an unnatural links warning in Webmaster Tools and noticed a large drop in our rankings. We downloaded and carried out a full link audit (3639 links) and logged in an excel spreadsheet with the following status: OK, Have Contacted, Can't Contact, Not SureWe have had some success but the majority of the ones we identified are not contactable. We use the dis-avow tool to tell Google of these. We then submitted a reconsideration request where we explained to Google our efforts and that we can supply them with our audit if necessary by email as you can't upload any evidence.A few days later we received a response suggesting that we still have unnatural links. We are a little stuck as we don't know what they can be:1. Is Google actually looking at our dis-avowed links before making this judgement?2. We have missed something that Google is considering bad but we can't see in our audit?Again we need a little help as we are trying to sort this out but can't see what we are falling down on.I can provide our spreadsheet if necessary. Many ThanksLee
