Would you delete the links page ?
-
I have noticed that more and more of my competitors are removing the links page from their sites. Either that or they are hiding them.
I suppose it makes sense because all the links on my page http://www.kerryblu.co.uk/links-7-w.asp are just links to sites that are linking to me. Supposedly there is no worth in this but I'm just worried that I will lose a lot of links if I delete this page and this may effect my currently crappy rankings for the worse.
What do you think? Keep the links page or delete it ?

My most recent client for unnatural links penalty removal is one that was penalized because of reciprocal linking, mostly on links and resource pages.
Doing a couple of link exchanges via a links page is not going to get you a penalty. But, the Webmaster Guidelines say that you can be penalized for doing excessive link exchange "You link to me and I'll link to you". They don't say what is considered excessive though.
Does this mean you have to get rid of your links page completely? Not necessarily. But you have to be careful. Make sure your links are all relevant. For example, if a real estate site has a resources page that includes links to flower shops, pet shops and casinos, then this is a red flag for a page that is existing just for the purpose of linking out. Similarly, if you are getting links back from sites that are totally not related to you then this can be a red flag.
It is ok to have a resource page (or to be mentioned on one) when it makes sense and when there aren't LOADS of links on the page. A healthy resource page will not be completely made up of reciprocal links but will also include links to government sites and authority sites in your niche.
A better option, though, when trying to exchange links is to exchange guest posts. Be careful to provide and publish only good quality stuff though....something that your readers will appreciate. If you have your own blog and provide content for your readers then, when you want to exchange links, ask a partner to write an article for your blog and in return you can do the same. Be careful not to produce patterns. For example, don't end every single guest post with the same author bio and anchor texted keywords. If possible, try to get a link back to your site within the body of the post and not in an author bio. And again, be careful with your anchor text.

It looks like a lot of your links shown on this page are directory listings or sites offering to do link swaps. I would say these links have very little value and may in fact negatively impact your site. As Danrawk pointed out the key is linking to relevant content and high in quality.
Stick to building relevant content that is valuable to your customers to earn links from other influential people and sites in your industry rather than participating in quick link swaps or adding your business to a low ranked directory.

hi -
it looks like the links you have on there are relevant to your website. that's good.
have you review the links you have there in open site explorer? are they QUALITY websites?
furthermore, are these websites linking back to you?
if the answer to the above 2 are both no, you may want to reconsider linking. there's nothing wrong with indicating you are a part of a community and link to relevant content, the the key is that it is actually relevant. if those sites are low in quality and don't reciprocate links, you may want to reevaluate.
work on getting more external links from relevant websites in your field. that will have a much higher impact that a page of links on your site. :>)

Do links from between common sites you run count as "bad" links?
Hi everyone,
Link Building | | AMA-DataSet
Iv recently been asked to review a group of sites. There are 3 sites, each of these sites has a link to the other two sites within the footer or the navigation.
These site are about a similar topic each provides a different perceptive or aims at a specific section of the industry so its not like the links are to irreverent sites. However because the links are in a global section they are repeated thousands of times on each site and count for a large proportion of the link profile to each site, I don't think this is good practise and I want to remove them or at least add a no-follow but my client insists they are relevant to each other and doesn't not want the links removing. What would be best in this situation? remove them? no-follow them? or leave them? Thank you in advance,

Link Building
I'm having difficulty creating a solid link base. I would prefer to only have links that are on relevant sites that are likely to drive traffic rather then just adding my company page to site directories. I've checked out the whiteboard Friday edition of link building and have also used the new Moz analytics that helps recommend sites to link to, but all the recommendations were directories. So, could anyone hold my hand and guide me through the world of Link building? Your help, as always, is much appreciated. Thanks everyone Dave

Link Building - Affiliate Link Programs
I'm getting some conflicting information when researching this... I want to create the most organic link building strategy that not only gets high authority sites linking to a website, but relevant websites. I'm creating an affiliate link program where I link to partner and affiliate companies, who in turn link back to me. The question is where to put these links. I was initially thinking of putting them in the footer so they add credibility to every page, and in turn ask my affiliates to do the same thing. However; some sources say that Google no longer looks at links in the footer section. Is it true that Google doesn't count links in footer sections? And do you have any tips on creating this Affiliate Link Program?

Total Links vs Google Webmaster Site Links
I am interested why the numbers between SEOmoz and Google are so different. In SEOmoz we only show 17,000ish links from 190ish domains. In Google, we show 200,000+ links from 370 domains. Why is there such a dramatic difference?

Link or Ad
I recently requested a link back from a site that is ranking 2nd for a term that i'm working on and they said they would gladly give me the link and remove my competitors but would also like me to have an ad on the same page for an annual fee that i could link to a landing page. I know that paying for links is no good and google can penalize you. so do i pay them and do a no follow to the landing page from the ad and call it a day? and how does google differentiate an ad from a link?

How useful/ damaging is it to have links repeated on every page ?
Our site is dynamic in nature we have tens of thousands of indexed pages with numerous individual brands pages - all of the brand pages are equally important. We are trying to distribute link juice to those pages as much as possible - so my question is --- Is it smart and or useful or perhaps damaging or spammy to have a space on the bottom of each page throughout our site with links to each and every single brand page ? is this practice considered as duplicate content etc ?
