I cant rank well on google or bing
-
hi guys, I hope I can make some sense to you guys with what is occuring with my website. I am an absolute novice here.
I used a drag and drop website 3 or 4 years ago, not sure exactly at the moment when i purchased the domain. however I did pretty well using paid search on both google and bing for quite some time and fairly descent in my area long beach, ca for organic for some of my keywords ( tv install, tv wall mount installation , and tv mounting service). At some point I noticed a drop last year and so this year I decided to try and do a better job on my website by making it mobile friendly and the whole https thing. I basically had to redo it and then after I was finished, the company I use for my website then transferred my website over to original domain. www.coastlinetvinstalls.com
Now, If i do a search for some of the keywords im trying to rank for on google , I show up on the first page in my area on some days, and on the google maps for my local business in my area.
On bing, however, Im nowhere to be found for any keywords I used to rank for. It use to be the opposite before I did this whole website fix up or whatever you want to call it. I would be on the first page for anything related to my keywords.
Wat happened with bing ? any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
-
Hi Matt,
Apologise for the long time since the delay, I didn't get a notification or at least didn't see a notification telling me you had replied.
Has anything changed?
If not then let's arrange to do a call or give me access to your bing, and I will take a look.
Steve

Hey did you get anywhere with this or did you want to set up a call?

No Problem,
Apologies I ended up having a really busy day yesterday.
So I have run a backlink check and cant actually find that many broken backlinks with the tools i have.
I have also compared the indexed pages on Bing against your sitemap and they match so all your pages are in there.
Do you still have a copy of the old site?
I have run a site crawl and that looks to be reasonable. no crawl issues. there are a few meta issues which we can look at afterwards, if you like.
We may need to get on and have a look at your Analytics to see if we can see anything there.
Just as a side thought i have just run a speed test
and the results are pretty slow, that may/will be having a level of impact i would think.
If you want to do have a chat/remote session to look at things my email is in my profile and one of us can keep this thread up to date so others can see where we are up to.

I appreciate you. I figured that was the issue. I wonder if there is anything possible to do to recover that link juice for bing? re-publishing the files from old site? if tat is even possible, I dont know. I would have to ask my website host/website builder. Im afraid to do anything they recommend at this point.

Hi Matt,
We will get to the bottom of this.
It sounds like you have lost some link juice potentially through the URL changes and also with the Bing issues.
I will carry out some further checks today.

When I first uploaded the website. I didnt have the exact same website pages. Less pages than before and I named them differently. The company I use (homestead) were no help at all. Just said when your ready to show new website we will switch everything to your original domain. A week or so later I realized the drop. Found an option on the website builder to point original pages to new pages instead of everything going to home page only of new site.
I used a few SEO sites to see if u had issues and it kept saying duplicate pages,ec. And some other issue about slash and trailing slash. Called the website builder(homestead) and they advised that if they unpublished the original site with different URLs that would solve my duplicate issue.
Fast forward to now, I dont get any errors on google and am slowly getting indexed. I also submitted on search console https, and www, and non www. Set preferred domain as www.
For bing. I cant submit my site as https. It never allows verification. So I have the original site as http. Can I let someone go int ok my bing webmaster and see what's going on?
I'm more concerned with bing at the moment.
Tha ke again for any time you guys spend on this issue. I know you probably have larger issues to focus on. But my business is struggling immensely since this whole debacle

Hi Matt16,
We will probably need more information to figure this out, but lets get started and see if I can help.
First thing that pops to mind, when you did the new website and uploaded it did you use the same URL's as you were previously? If not did you redirect the old URL's to the new UR's? using a 301 redirect (dont worry if you dont know what this is we can get to it).
it seems strange that you maintained the traffic in Google but not in Bing. Did you make any other changes apart from the site design. Did you rewrite the content? anything else?
Have you got the same number of pages now as before?
When you say some days you show up in google and others you don't, I assume this is for the same search term?
Have you tried searching in private browser mode, do you see the same results?
Are you searching from the same location when you see different results?
Cheers,
Steve

Server was banned, now all sites have dropped ranking.
Hi, I'm new here 🙂 I look after half a dozen sites on the one server. Early January three of those Wordpress sites were hacked and reported for phishing. All sites have been cleaned and the report(s) removed but they are all ranking much lower than previously. I also added IP block to the sites to limit the traffic to Australia and New Zealand as these are all local small businesses. I checked IP reputation for the server and it is neutral, with no blacklisting showing. I checked with the hosting company and they have no bans or warnings on the server either. These sites were ranking ok, usually first or second page but they have all dropped down to page 5 or worse now. Is there anything else I should check? I have resubmitted the sites to Google a few days ago. Any guidance greatly appreciated. I a web designer so I know a little about SEO but this is beyond me.

Home Page Not Ranking for Brand
I've got an odd issue (that I've never encountered in 12+ years in SEO). A client's home page isn't ranking for their brand term. It's a medical spa in Las Vegas, so physical location that takes online appointments. We have an online booking system (which isn't a good one) that originally had a booking page replacing our home page. My thought is that Google associated that page as our home page because it was a stronger domain and the booking page is most used. That tool didn't allow the booking page to be noindexed (I know, crazy)- so I changed the name inside the booking tool away from the brand name as to not have both the site and the booking site optimized for the brand. Other things I've checked: The home page is indexed Home page canonical tag points to itself Title tag contains brand name at front (rest of site it's at the end) Robots.txt is accurate (allows home page) XML sitemap contains home page (and accurate for other pages) To make this even more confusing, if you search the brand name the physical location appears on the right rail with accurate URL. Any other ideas that I may be missing?

Roller Coaster Rankings
Hi All! I'm an experienced SEO freelancer trying to help a company achieve great SEO results 🙂 I optimized a lot of pages which helped the site start ranking, but now some keywords are flying up and down seemingly at random. For example, one keyword went from #11 to under #50! Is it a bad sign when there is instability in the keywords? Should I be seeing some "settling down'' on my dear keywords? If there is no settling, any suggestions?

Theory: Local Keywords are Hurting National Rankings?
I've read a good amount here and in other blog posts about strategies for national brands to rank locally as well with local landing pages, citations, etc. I have noticed something strange that I'd like to hear if anyone else is running into, or if anyone has a definitive answer for. I'm looking at a custom business printing company where the products can and are often shipped out of state, so it's a national brand. On each product page, the client is throwing in a few local keywords near where the office is to help rank for local variations. When looking at competitors that have a lower domain authority, lower volume of linking root domains, less content on the page, and other standard signals, they are ranking nationally better than the client. The only thing they're doing that could be better is bolding and throwing in the page keyword 5-10 times (which looks unnatural). But when you search for keyword + home city, the client ranks better. My hypothesis is that since the client is optimizing product pages for local keywords as well as national, it is actually hurting on national searches because it's seen as local-leaning business. Has anyone run into this before, or have a definitive answer?

Drastic changes in keyword rankings on a daily basis
Anybody ever seen keyword rankings for a site change drastically from day to day? I've got a client, a local furniture store, whose local keywords (furniture + city) rank consistently well without much change, but when it comes to broader keyword rankings (like "furniture" or "furniture store") in their zip code, they'll go from ranking at the top of Google one day to not being ranked at all the next (at least according to Raven Tools). My best guess is that it's just a reflection of personalized results from Google, but such a dramatic change day in and day out makes me wonder.

Why a site just dropped out of ranks
I have a site i am working on link It was ranking fairly well and then I added content to the homepage to better optimize it for the keywords it was already ranking for. Ever since I did that the entire site is no longer ranking well. Thoughts?

Single sites per location as well as group site. Should we get rid of single sites & only keep group site.
Currently we have several single sites for each of our dealership locations as well as an automotive group site linking to each location(dealership) website. Currently there is no landing page for each location on the group site. To save money we were looking into beefing up our group site and getting rid of our individual location sites. 301 redirecting them to location landing pages on the group site website. Each site has about the same authority including the group site. Each dealership location resides in the same province(state) but some locations are a 7hour drive apart so not all within the same vicinity. I want to ensure we continue to rank well in each location. I won't be able to include all geographic locations in the title tag on the homepage of the group site due to the character restrictions. What would you recommend? Keeping the individual websites per dealership location OR focusing solely on a group website. I need to ensure we continue to rank well in each city where each dealership resides. Thanks for any recommendations! It's greatly appreciated. Thanks for everyone's thoughts & opinions.
