Using a keyword on homepage of a blog
-
I have a blog and the homepage has the 5 most recent posts. I ran a report card on my homepage for my main keyword. One of the problems is that the keyword only appears 1 time. I don't want to put it in the signature of every post because I found that causing problems with self-cannibalizing. I checked my competitor and they got a check mark for this but I looked at their homepage and I found the keyword NOWHERE! So where is my competitor hiding the keywords and how can I get the keywords on the homepage when the content is constantly changing?
Thanks in advance!

I am using Wordpress and Genesis and I cannot figure out how to give my header image a keyword. I can't do an H1 on my homepage because it would look terrible.
I was thinking about putting it in my sidebar but would that cause problems with my category pages that target other keywords? I have gotten some errors for self-cannibalizing.
Thanks for your help!

I tried using synonyms or breaking up the keyword but Moz wouldn't give me a better score.

Yes, I agree with Irving and Thomas. Don't focus too much on the competitor but get your own good, unique content as a base to start.

you can put a chunk of content on the page like in the sidebar or footer so you can get a couple instances of the main keyword on the homepage which always remains there regardless of whether the latest blog posts contain that content or not. Also, in the homepage image file name, meta description, h1 or wherever else it's approproate to add it without overdoing it of course.

I do not believe that your competitor is hiding keywords. I believe that they are using similar words to describe whatever the keyword is. Therefore if I were to talk about a "my days horse riding" and then talk about "my days as a equestrian"
I'm just essentially saying the same thing but in two different ways. You do not want to go crazy oversaturate Google using this method however I believe that is how your competitor has ranked either that or inbound links from strong sites that are very relevant to the keyword.
I would use a tool called scribecontent.com I think it is excellent for this type of thing.
You can use marketinggrader.com a free tool to help you with your site
Free keyword Tools you can also use Google ad words for this
http://www.wordstream.com/keyword-tools
I would also use your keywords in your title tags and if you're each one tags if you can. This will give you a big boost without making it looks very. You can also use it in the URL if needed.
However you should write a completely fresh and engaging blog post for paying regarding this topic and that you should introduce the keyword.
Sincerely,
Thomas

Search Console shows structure keywords more significant over content keywords. What is wrong?
Search Console shows non content related - website structure keywords as:

"categories, account, facebook,..." as top significant keywords. And after those comes the website's content keywords.
These words come from the header as I can notice. Am I repeating the content keywords less? Is there a way to adjust this? I am sure this affects my Adsense targeting.

? Keyword stuffing
I have a new website. Did "on page grading". Although the page received a grade of A the only area that did not receive a check mark was key word stuffing. It recommended I not use keyword more that 15 times but I only counted 11 uses of the key phrase "breast augmentation." However the phrase is also used in alt tag of images which would take me over 15. Are alt tag on images counted and is this a concern? I tried to use "augmentation mammaplasty" to reduce the use of the phrase "breast augmentation" but will use of "augmentation" and "breast" alone also cause the count to increase for the phrase "breast augmentation"

Impact of rogue keyword in content
I have a page that is optimised - title, URL, content etc for the chosen keywords. However, within the content are some batches of bullet point text that has repeated text throughout. So for example I have 5 instances of my chosen keyword within the content and 24 instances of the two word text within the bullet points. Does this kind of scenario have any impact on ranking?

Homepage Keywords for a Client with Multiple Services
We have a local client who services are very broad and there is no one service, i.e. keyword or keyword phrase, that covers all that they do. This is making it very challenging to select keywords to optimize the homepage for. Basically they do everything from engineering, surveying, planning, environmental, etc. We were thinking we would focus mainly on their most important service which is engineering and then use the other services as supporting phrases. However, this feels very diluted and there will be pages on the site for each of these services where the keywords will be targeted. Any thoughts or recommendations for this type of situation?
