Open Site Explorer

Confused by the results displayed in Open Site Explorer.
Want to know the Total Links into a site.
As such typed in the site address and received the result 28 Total Links from 1 Root Domain. Filter Set to This Page.
Therefore, changed the filter to **Pages on This Root Domain. **All other filters set to All (i.e. internal and external links).
I would assume this should give me ALL LINKS coming into all pages. I received results of 79 Total Links from 28 root domains.
Raven and other tools advise a Total number of links in excess of 2,000. External Backlinks 200+.
I have experienced this problem on a number of sites over the past month, in what way am I interpreting the data incorrectly? Why is there such disparity?
Please advise.
Kind regards

As Frederico says, Open Site Explorer uses the Mozscape link index which only crawls a portion of the internet.
On the front page of Open Site Explorer you'll see some stats about the index: 106 Billion URLs, 150 Million Root domains, 764 Billion Links. While this sounds like a lot - it's nowhere near every link and every domain on the internet!
I believe Raven uses MajecticSEO's link index which may (or may not) index the sites that link to your site hence the disparity between the two.

OSE doesn't scrape the entire Web, only portion of it. It takes a lot of resources to scrape the entire Web for links, however, the main ones, those that aren't that "hidden" are easily found by OSE.

Why some of my strong backlinks don't show up in Site Explorer
Hello, Just was checking my backlinks and I see that few very strong backlinks are not showing up in my links list. I check with Moz bar in my browser and those are all dofollow links. Some of those sites link back to me a while ago. Thanks, Regards, Armands

How does spammy linked site have zero spam score?
I came across a law firm site with hundreds of horrible spam links to it. Of the 3330 links, all but 231 links have anchor text that has to do with "jordan 11s for sale". I'm trying to see how useful the moz spam score is, but clearly it's not reliable if this site has a score of zero. Many of the obviously spammy sites linking to it also have low to zero spam scores, although there are plenty in the 5-10 range. (see attached image). I also noticed that many sites were legit sites, but if you look at the source code, there's tons of hidden spam links in the code (e.g., www.chickasawgardens.net) Why would this site have a zero spam score? If you're curious, put it into open site explorer and have a look. It's a law firm based in Pennsylvania, most anchor text has to do with jordan sneakers and most links are foreign: penn-criminallawyers.com Is the spam score too lenient? Is the moz tool unable to find spam links coming from legitimate sites with hidden spam links? DrokMbP

Open site explorer is giving me strange redirect message.
Hi all, I tried to find answer in help section. Few people have asked this before but in none of the answers it tells how they fix it. Sorry I will need to ask here again. In Open Site Explorer i get this message. You entered the URL https://a-fotografy.co.uk/ which redirects to http://www.a-fotografy.co.uk/. Because it's likely to have more accurate metrics, we're showing data for the redirected URL instead. Click here to analyze https://a-fotografy.co.uk/ instead? My current site is https://a-fotografy.co.uk/ not sure why it is redirecting to my old domain. Weird. My web developer couldn't explain this issue. Saying that I also go my first analytics report and in priority issues I have http://a-fotografy.co.uk 302 redirect and not sure where it is redirecting to. If someone could shed some light of how to figure out how to find exactly what is redirecting to what and where is the problem. Thank you guys, Regards, Armands

Removing the clutter of site-wide links
I have a multi-part question with regard to the moz link index and some presentation suggestions. Firstly I would be interested to know how the link index treats site-wide links with regard to metrics such as DA, and PA. We all know that it is highly likely that SE's are unlikely to pass full link value across from sitewide links, and therefore it would make sense for Moz values to account for this as well - if they do not already. One annoying thing that also relates to sitewides is that they tend to clutter the much of the information presentation in a few of the tools (you can't see wood for trees as it were). This is most prominent in the "Just Discovered" page - if you have a sitewides on a large site, you can often find that this screen is just totally filled with these links as they are found. It would be very useful to be able to filter these out, as they are of little interest - currently I can't see a way of filtering them out. A further value where they create to much noise is the 'Total Links' value. Where sitewides are included in this value, the value actually becomes pretty meaningless as you can find that the majority of that value is sitewides. It would therefore be useful if there was another value for 'Total Links - Excluding Sitewides' where maybe value of 1 was just added to the count for a site wide

OnPage Grader double counting keywords on responsive site (hidden vs visible)
FYI - it appears that if you have a responsive site that has blocks of text that are duplicated, but Hidden or Visible depending on the screen width, that On-Page Grader will count any keywords in that text twice. I have text shown in one location to Desktop users that needed to be re-located to a different part of the page for Tablet and Phone users to keep the layout nice. And my OP Grader keyword count doesn't match what I saw on the page doing Ctrl-F to find the keywords, unless you count the Hidden text. (not hidden like cloaking or some black hat thing - just not displayed on certain devices) I guess On Page Grader just reads the source code and ignores whether the text is hidden or visible. It would be nice if it read the code as if it was a Desktop device. (suggestion for Moz staff) Does anybody know if Google also ignores device dependent Hidden vs Visible areas???
