Social Signals Inquiry Regarding Competitor
-
There is a competitor in my sites industry, and per various tools like opensitexplorer, quicksprout, and searchmetrics, they have an evenly amount of massive (100k+ per page) facebook social signals (likes, shares, comments) to around 25-50 of their top pages on their site.
They have no social media presence in terms of a fan page, and they rank on the first page for almost every single keyword that is niche related.
How could it be possible to naturally have the same number of facebook social signals to all of your top pages?
What have they done to even accomplish this, and is it only a matter of time before Google recognizes the black hat tactics they've put in place to manipulate the search engines?
-
Since it is shares and likes in a matching number for each page it sounds like the probably bought a service from a site like Fiverr to give them a certain amount of shares, follows, re-tweets, etc. They could also be using a program like Synnd to automatically get social shares.
Either way, I wouldn't spend much time worrying about it.
-
Without much more information, I can only say that Google isn't likely to ban a site manipulating signals they don't appear to value. Keep checking on the organic side.
-
Id prefer to keep the competitor and industry confidential. These aren't followers that they have, it's shares likes and comments to their top pages on their site. The same total number of these signals are going to each top page per ose and search metrics.
-
This is really broad. Can you give me the industry? How about the competitor?
Google 'dialed down' 'social signals' a couple years ago. Social is almost nil if all they're doing is buying followers. You're far more likely to find an answer on the organic side.

Request: Feedback on new free tool that provides social analytics for recent blog posts
We have created a tool that provides "at a glance social metrics" for the URLs listed in an RSS feed. Its intended purposes are: Monitor the social success of your recent blog posts Spy on the social success of your competitors' recent blog posts Quickly analyze a blog for social sharing metrics to determine whether it is a good outreach prospect or guest post opportunity Check out the tool at http://www.rypmarketing.com/tools/rss-social-analyzer.php I've attached a report run on the YouMoz RSS feed. Would love to hear some feedback on the tool... Do you think the tool is useful? Nice, but not worthwhile? What could be done to improve it? What ways do you think it will be most useful? Thanks! Social Media Gurus... What would you do, your industry has no presence?
You are tasked with creating a Facebook page for an industry which has a distinct lack of social media presence. During your research for your industry or client you find none of their competitors are using social media to any large degree. Reviewing the whys, you find that the demographics of people using Social Media outlets like, Facebook, Twitter, Pin Interest, and LinkedIn do not really fit with the industry. Do you view this as a great opportunity for your company / client and push forward with creating a Social Media presence? Or, do you inform your company / client based on your research, social media isn't a viable use of time or money? Examples: Plastic Manufacturing

Tractor Trailer Wholesale
Copper Mining Equipment I am interested in how the guru's handle clients / companies that don't necessarily fit the mold of social media, but ask and are willing to pay you to make it happen for them. I am hoping this to be a good discussion as I don't see any right or wrongs in these situations. What would you do?0 -
So I am my coworker have a differing opinion on social networking sites.
One of us says to join one or two, Linkedin being one of them and just work those. The other says to build profiles on multiple pages - everything from Merchant Circle to fastpitch , essentially any and all, and not worry about activity level, just get the link. What are your thoughts? Which approve will result in more effective optimization for clients?

Working with 3rd PArty Social Media partners / paid blogs
Hi there! We are an ecommerce company based in the UK and are an online butcher. We are looking to further our contribution and authority in a social sphere, in particular develop relations with bloggers and social sites who are realised to have authority in our sphere (food / meat). At present we are active in the usual (Twitter, Facebook etc) and have over 1000 likes and followers. We also have a cool blog which can be found at <cite>www.donaldrussell.com/weblog/index.html</cite> We are looking at our content and would like to share this with other bloggers in return for backlinks and visits from these blogs, and in turn improve our pagerank and SEO ratings. I have been offered the chance to work with EBuzzing, who claim to get your content published and referred to but you have to pay these "bloggers" for the privelage. Is this a good way of furthering our social strategy in the short term, or is this the wrong way to go and do search engines devalue these links? My preference is to organically grow our presence through becoming a valuable contributor and have alsways strongly advocated this, however Ebuzzing or other simillar services sound too good to be true! Are they? Hope you can help me, and look forward to your thoughts. Many thanks Gary
