As Chris said, Google has recently changed how long your titles can be, but rather than give you a definite number of words you can use, you now have a number of pixels. The general consensus here is that you have 512 pixels.
Screaming Frog Spider has just updated to a newer version that now includes how long your titles are in pixels, as well as words. I don't know if there are other tools that do this yet, as I haven't searched, but they do a free version that you can download and will crawl up to 500 pages of a site.
You can download it here.

Would adding and abbreviation to a title hurt?
I have been trying to figure this out- https://mza.seotoolninja.com/community/q/what-should-i-do-with-old-e-commerce-item-pages I added n/a to the end of the page titles so I could figure out how these pages were performing. Since I added them my organic traffic has seemed to have dropped. It has only been a few days so maybe it is an anomaly. Everything else has stayed the same, would this cause an organic traffic drop?

Desktop vs. Mobile Results
When googling on www.google.ca for "wedding invitations" and in my own geo location market of Toronto, my site - www.stephita.com, will show up differently on SERP on desktop (Chrome & IE) vs. mobile (iPad, iPhone, android, etc.). On desktop SERP, I will show up 6/7 position... (which is relatively a new position, the past 3 weeks - I was previously on page 2) (After a bunch of SEO fixes, I've managed to propel my site back to page 1!) On mobile SERP, I only show up on 1/2 position on PAGE 2 😞 As I mentioned above, I did a bunch of SEO fixes that I think were related to Panda/Penguin algos. So I'm wondering why my MOBILE SERP has NOT improved along the way? What should I be looking at to fix this 5-6 position differential? Thanks all!

Rubber Ball Ranking Results
We noticed a few weeks ago that rankings for the phrase
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Jayblue
Charity Collection Buckets
Were bouncing between this page
http://www.carefundraisingsupplies.co.uk/fundraising-products/Charity-Collection-Buckets
Rank 16
to this page
http://www.carefundraisingsupplies.co.uk/fundraising-products/fundraising-supplies
Rank 85
So we de-SEO'd the second page and added more content to the first page.
This seemed to lock Google onto the first page at 16, but it then started to slowly slide downwards. We have made a few more on page text tweaks, tried to reduce keywords density all to no avail. Even though overall this site has a better DA and MOZ profile than those ranked 1 and 2 for the phrase, we just cannot seem to get it moving in the right direction. We are just about to apply some quality links to see if that helps. But we are wondering if we are missing something at a technical level, like category structure, Canonicalisation, 301 redirects or something else. Any thoughts?0 -
Google Generating its Own Page Titles
Hi There I have a question regarding Google generating its own page titles for some of the pages on my website. I know that Google sometimes takes your H1 tag and uses it as a page title, however, can anyone tell me how I can stop this from happening? Is there a meta tag I can use, for example like the NOODP tag? Or do I have to change my page title? Thanks Sadie

No matter what I do, my website isn't showing up in search results. What's happening?
I've checked for meta-robots, all SEO tags are fixed, reindexed with google-- basically everything and it's not showing up. According to SEOMoz all looks fine, I am making a few fixes, but nothing terribly major. It's a new website, and i know it takes a while, but there is no movement here in a month. Any insights here?

Why does google not show my ecommerce category page when I have the same keywords for many products in the product title?
I have found that google removes the google serach listing of a category from my site (ecommerce) when products within the category have the same key words. I sell golf shirts and have a category called "Mens Golf Shirts" Within the category I have added many products but when the too many of the products say mens golf shirt my link on google gets removed. Before i had products named: FUNKTION Mens Short Sleeve Golf Shirt Red / Black but now I have had to change it to: FUNKTION Red / Black I can understand that they may see this a keyword stuffing but how do I get around this to ensure that each product can rank on google for mens golf shirt
