Yelp 3rd Party Reviews
-
Our team would like to use Yelps 3rd party integration on our national industry specific platform directory to bolster ratings and reviews until we can organically generate our own. However, I have SEO concerns over doing this. Specifically, we're concerned over the following:
- Publishing massive amounts of content that has already been published on Yelp. Worth noting that Yelp's review integration does not hide the the content behind an iFrame.
- Publishing a backlink providing attribution to Yelp on every one of 40,000 profiles linking back to contextual Yelp profiles. Less worried here as Yelp is reputable and is not likely to hurt ratings. This is required by Yelp under their TOS.
I think this is a pretty good growth strategy on the part of yelp, but I have worries that this could induce lasting damage on our own SEO that we're working to ramp up.
My questions are:
- Should I have concerns about duplicative content? Is Yelp big enough for Google to know about this 3rd party integration?
- If I ensure that R&Rs are only posted on pages that have a noindex, nofollow, do we protect ourselves from duplicative content. (ie. Google bots will not review this content, so we will not have to worry about them finding and attributing duplicative content penalties.)
Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Hey John,
I hope you will get a reply from someone with hands-on experience with directory development, which I don't have, but here's what I think:
-
Obviously, Yahoo has been using Yelp reviews for some time (http://www.webpronews.com/yelp-reviews-no-longer-appearing-in-yahoo-local-results-2015-08) so there's nothing inherently wrong with the idea.
-
On the other hand, yes, you'd be republishing someone else's content on your own site. So, I can see the cause for concern. That being said, yes, it could be that a different engine like Google is going to recognize that as coming from big Yelp and it might not be a problem, but I wouldn't bank on this if it were my company.
-
Finally, the strategy seems a bit iffy to me, to use Yelp's content if you are trying to build a directory that competes with Yelp for your niche.
-
I think the ideal here for your platform would be to build its own value. After all, you have no control over how a third party vets reviews, filters them, trusts them, etc. Yelp's take on this isn't your take and you may have totally different requirements for assessing the value of UGC.
Again, hope you'll get some further replies on this, but I wanted to at least get the conversation going. I hope folks will disagree with me if they have a totally different take on this. John's question is a very good one!

How to Remove Old Photos from Bing Maps (Yelp is Involved)
Hi All, We have a client with a Bing Maps listing with old photos on it that we can't seem to remove. The photos are being populated from other sites like Yelp. The kicker is, we didn't upload the photos to Yelp, a user did. We've messaged the user to please remove the photos and they haven't responded. Now Yelp won't let us contact the user again and we've already flagged the photos on Yelp weeks ago but they haven't been removed. We don't see a spot to flag them on Bing. Do you have any recommendations for how to remove these?

Help with Yelp for Brands :)
I want to restructure our franchise Yelp accounts, I am looking for an easier way to deploy Yelp accounts that are structured at a brand level where I can add franchisees as managers but still be able to look at Yelp at a brand account short of advertising of course. We have over 380 locations each with their own accounts and ad goals. Is this possible? Does it have a method like Google My Business or Bing Places? It's not a priority for us since we first claim and optimize this for all of our franchisees, Just looking for an easier way to help your franchisees with deployments, scale and also helping us keep a consistent brand standard. Cheers, JonGeek

Bad Google Reviews - Should I Remove the Map From My Website?
I have a Google map on a website. Currently, there are only two 1-star reviews — which show next to the company name on the map. We added the map for local SEO reasons, but I’m thinking I should take it down because customer experience supersedes local SEO. Why boost search rankings if the content will drive people away from converting? So basically, customer experience > local SEO. Question: Do you all agree, or do any of you have any evidence that I should leave it? For example, it’s below the fold, so it isn’t the first thing they see, and we really need to boost their local SEO.

(Australian Business) Ranks 7th Brisbane, but ranks 3rd in Sydney and Melbourne. Why is Brisbane ranking worse, how to fix?
Years ago the rank would be the same across Australia. If we ranked 3rd in one city, it would be the same in every other city. Right now, we are ranking 3rd in Sydney and Melbourne, however we ranking a low 7th in Brisbane for keyword "Trampolines". Why is this? How can we fix it in Brisbane. Interestingly, we are a Brisbane based business. The keyword is "Trampolines" and the website is http://www.vulyplay.com

Google Reviews From Around The Web Feature Gone
Hey All My Favorite Local Community Members! I think we might start having questions come up about this, so I thought I'd do a quick post. Google has just confirmed that they have removed the 'Reviews from Around the Web' feature that has so long been a part of their local SERPs display. Mike Blumenthal confirms that this is official, here: http://localu.org/blog/google-more-reviews-links-removed-from-knowledge-panel/ Apparently, you can still see your reviews from around the web in your Google My Business dashboard, but they are gone from knowledge panels, etc. This may not be a feature greatly missed by many, as the business owner had so little control over what was displayed in this section. So ... upshot is: if you've just noticed that this feature is gone, it's official - it's gone.

Promoting a home based business on yelp
Hi,

I have several clients who run firms out of their homes but they want to promote on yelp. Does yelp allow someone to hide their address but to still come up in search results for a city? If so, how do I do this? Cornelius0 -
Competitor outranking me on google with their yelp, facebook and youtube pages
I'm working to rank for a local search term (my city wedding photographers). I'm frustrated that my competitor is outranking me not with their website (they are no. #9 and I'm #6) but with their Yelp account (#1) Facebook Account (#5) and Youtube account (#7 - not outranking me, but right below me). I'm going to continue working on my SEO to hopefully get higher up, but even then, they are basically dominating page 1 with their links. It gets worse on page 2. They are showing up 5 times for youtube/vimeo videos, and 1 time with a spammy landing page with no images, full of keyword anchored links to their main site. What gives? Since when are social media profiles outranking local sites on google organic searches? Could it be that our keyword is just so low competition that google has allowed all this stuff to rank so highly?
