Ranking for a word when your image is showing up as #2?
-
I'm trying to rank for several specific words in my industry. I've noticed that many of the pages I'm trying to rank for the specific words, the main image of the page is being ranked. So my question is should I still try to rank my page even though the image is ranking as the first image displayed in the google results. Will this count against me by Google if I do? Or should I try to make the image being ranked more enticing for google searchers to try to increase traffic? Right now the images are not generating many clicks.

Should I still try to rank my page even though the image is ranking as the first image displayed in the google results.
Absolutely YES. I have lots of first image in the SERPs and first listing in the organics. Both of these bring traffic. That traffic is generally not as valuable as traffic from organic web search but you can still make money from it. (Visitors to Google image search are given the option to view your image or visit your page. Sometimes when they view your image that viewing is done on Google's website, sometimes the visitor is moved to your website. Google is known sometimes to frame your website within Google image search. Google changes how image search works from time to time and some of their configurations produce almost no traffic for the owner of the image.)
Will this count against me by Google if I do?
Absolutely NOT. It may actually increase your opportunities. You then have great content from web search and great content from image search. They should want to show that page to everyone!
Or should I try to make the image being ranked more enticing for google searchers to try to increase traffic?
Absolutely NOT. Get two images on that page and attack with both. Three would be better. Four or five, better still.
As in other things, much of this depends upon how much time you have to spend on it, how valuable the traffic might be and whether you are reaching for the competitor's throat or farting around.

Is there a benefit to hiding words from Google on ecommerce sites?
I think we all know that ecommerce sites have a lot of repeating functional texts on them. Is there a benefit from hiding this text from Google's crawler? Take this page for example, http://storage3.static.itmages.com/i/16/0805/h_1470425505_1090542_224cc344d4.png Some of the most dense words on the page are "Add to cart", "Add to Wishlist", "New", and "Sale". Is there any benefit to hiding those words from Google? The method of hiding I am talking about is not cloaking, but this, https://www.google.com/support/enterprise/static/gsa/docs/admin/70/gsa_doc_set/admin_crawl/preparing.html#1076243 using the google:off index tag. So the content will be there still, but it will not be indexed.

SEO for Image only posts
Let's say I have a post where I show 25 different wood textures. I start the post with a small paragraph and then I show several images of wood textures linked to an internal or external page. Since I don't use a text link, then I have to rely on alt tags. It would be very difficult to assign a different alt tag to so many similar images, and I guess there would be a risk of keyword stuffing (walnut wood, oak wood, etc). On the other side, if I assign the same tag to all images, then that clearly is keyword stuffing (alt=wood textures). This is just an example, but it applies to most of my posts. What do you think I should do with the alt tags? Thanks!

Seo'ing Sub domains for images
We are currently adding some performance improvement to our websites, to improve user experience. One of the things we are looking at is splitting of images over several sub-domains, to increase the number of images that can be downloaded at the same. We have seen that using key phrases within image names has an improvement in rankings. So, the question is should we create sub-domains as key-phrase.example.co.uk or as i1.example.co.uk? K

Almost all pages showing under Notices Rel Canonical - why???
Hi, I'm just going through my latest crawl since my new site launch and havce noticed almost all of my websites pages are listed under the notices rel canonical section, Why is this? All pages have the unique pages titles followed by the site name in the title, for example: Product | Site name All pages have unique meta descriptions and content (although we only offer lots of differt varients of the same product). Is this something I should be worried about?
