Landing page redirect along with complete content
-
Hi Moz community,
We have a page with "keyword" we are targeting in slug like website.com/keyword/. This page doesn't have much back-links or visits like homepage. So we decided to redirect homepage to /keyword page along with complete content. Will this going to hurt? Only change anybody can notice is URL. Are there any risks involved. I think this is the best way to highlight the page we been thinking about.
Thanks

Hi Patrcik,
Thanks for such detailed response.
We tried a little to make it naturally as you said; but seems like it gonna take more time to outrage the homepage. Rather than saying landing page, I want to say redirecting homepage to another page. Anyhow we are not ranking better for the "keyword" we are targeting, so we decided this redirection. We noticed our competitors doing good by ranking with website.com/keyword.
Can we redirect for a month around, so this /keyword page might get highlighted to Google and users as well. We try to replace /keyword page with homepage internally to avoid internal redirects (Homepage have been linked internally from many sub-domains even).
We tried linking internally /keyword page to say Google how important the page is, still it didn't workout. We decided to risk as we are anyway not doing great right now.
Please share your views.

I'd second Patrick's advice - I've seen people try and do this with redirects and canonicalisation, and it normally leads to a mess that has to be sorted out in the future...

Hi there
I would not be redirecting your homepage to a keyword page. What I would do is put on-page SEO efforts into the /keyword page so that users that are searching for that keyword can land on the proper page. The homepage, I would focus on branded and who your business is / what you do content. Link off to internal pages like your /keyword page and others, they will thrive off the organic equity your homepage builds. Not to mention, most of your branded mentions / listings are going to go to your homepage.
Traffic for a homepage is usually reserved for branded and high level topical keywords revolving around what your business does, so redirecting it loses that piece of your SEO strategy. I would really and strongly focus on doing this. Reason being, most of your traffic is going to come through your homepage. If you eliminate that branded and traffic equity, it could be detrimental to your user experience / brand equity.
Unless I'm completely misunderstanding, it sounds like a waste of efforts and a shortcut in SEO efforts that could backfire. Search engines are smart. Play the game correctly and all will end right.
Hope this helps - good luck!
Patrick

Google Country Redirection Change
Analytics is showing a substantial decrease in referring traffic from Google specific regional domains like .ca, .co.uk, .de, etc vs an uptick from .com starting as of March 2018. Did anyone note when this change happened when Google stopped directing traffic to their regional domains? Was there any press about it (couldn't find any). Using a VPN for different countries, I compared regional specific domain SERPs vs .com and they're pretty much identical. Thanks!

Rel canonical on other page instead of duplicate page. How Google responds?
Hi all, We have 3 pages for same topics. We decided to use rel canonical and remove old pages from search to avoid duplicate content. Out of these 3 pages....1 and 2 type of pages have more similar content where 3 type don't have. Generally we must use rel canonical between 1 and 2. But I am wondering what happens if I canonical between 1 and 3 while 2 has more similar content? Will Google respects it or penalise as we left the most similar page and used other page for canonical. Thanks

Do we need to worry about external redirects?
Hi all, We always avoid internal redirects. Just wonder what if many of the out going links are redirecting to new links. I presume there is nothing wrong to host such links. Any ideas? Thanks

Dublicate Content: Almost samt site on different domains
Hi, I own a couple of casting websites, which I'm at the moment launching "local" copies of all over the world. When I launch my website in a new country, the content is basically allways the same, except the language sometimes changes country for country. The domains will vary, so the sitename would be site.es for Spain, site.sg for Singapore, site.dk for Denmark and so. The websites will also feature diffent jobs (castings) and diffent profiles on the search.pages and so, BUT the more static pages are the same content (About us, The concept, Faq, Create user and so). So my Questions are: Is this something that is bad for Google SEO? The sites are atm NOT linking to each other with language-flags or anything - Should I do this? Basically to tell google that

the business behind all these sites are somewhat big. Is there a way to inform Google on, that these sites should NOT be treated as dublicate content (Canonical tag wont do, since I want the "same" content to be listet on the locally Google sites). Hope there is some experts here which can help. /Kasper0 -
Site has disappeared since Panda 4 despite quality content, help!
Our site www.physicalwellbeing.co.uk has lost over 20 first page rankings since the end of May. I assume this is because of Panda 4.0. All content on the site is high quality and 100% unique, so we did not expect to get penalised. Although I read somewhere that if Google can't read particular js anymore they don't rank you as high. The site has not been blacklisted as all pages are showing in Google's index and there are no messages on webmaster tools. We have not taken part in any link schemes and have disavowed all low quality links that were pointing there just in case (after the penalty). Can anybody see anything on www.physicalwellbeing.co.uk that may have cause Panda update to affect it so negatively? Would really appreciate any help.

Question About : Redirecting Old Pages to New & More Relevant Ones
I'm looking over a friends website, which used to have great natural ranking for some big keywords. Those ranking & CTR's have dropped a lot, so the next thing I checked into was top selling Brand & Category pages. Its seems like every year or so a New Page was constructed for each brand... Many of which have high quality and natural inbound links. However, the pages no longer have products and simply look outdated. I'm trying to figure out if they should place redirects on all the old pages to a new URL which is more seo friendly. Example Links : http://www.xyz.com/nike2004.html , http://www.xyz.com/nike-spring2006.html , http://www.xyz.com/2011-nike-shoes.html - (have quality inbound links, bad content) .... Basically would it be advantageous to place redirects on all of these example pages to a new one that will be more permanent... http://www.xyz.com/nike-shoes.html I'm also looking at about 15 brands and maybe 100+ old/outdated urls, so I wasn't sure if I should do this & to what extent. Considering many of the brand pages do rank, but not as well as they should... Any input would help, thanks

Quickest way to deindex a large number of pages
Our site was recently hacked by spammers posting fake content and bringing down our servers, etc. After a few months, we finally figured out what was going on and fixed the issue. However, it turns out that Google has indexed 26K+ spammy pages and we've lost page rank and search engine rankings as a result. What is the best and fastest way to get these pages out of Google's index?
