Local results without geotargeted keywords
-
i'm trying to rank the site appliance-repair-ny.com for the New York City area.
I managed to have the site rank pretty good (the site is less than 6 months old) for keyphrases with NYC, New York and Manhattan but i don't understand how to get the site rank higher for the ones without those keywords.
For example:
Appliance repair NYC - rank 1
Appliance Repair New york - rank 4
Appliance repair (without location) not in results
Anyone can help me please?
Thanks!

Do you know if Google is counting the reviews based on their IP address? Most of my competitor have fake reviews and I suspect they use their own computers to do that.
-
ninjamarketer,
I have reviews on insiderpages, yelp, merchant circle and many more that google indexed over 2 months ago but google doesn't add them to the page.
Many of the sites has no reviews from other sources and really poor pages but still listed in those results ( ONLY for those results without geo targeted keywords but not for the ones with them.)

Thanks Lewis and Josh.
Sorry, I think i didn't explain myself right.
Most of the non geotargeted keypharses brings local results as well. this is where i want to be listed, not in the nationwide results which as you guys said are much more competitive.
Most of the sited listed for those queries have less links than me (including one of mine that i know for fact that had no seo done to it but still listed!)
Hope it make it clearer.

Google will automatically detect the origin of the keyword request based on the IP and will localize the result. The new local SERP is blended result which is a combination of local places, local directories, national / global listings, news , videos and other media.
The first step is to find out if a keyword search for "appliance repair" results in a locally influenced search results. If you are seeing the Google places listing for this keyword then move on to the next step which is optimizing your on and off page elements for the target keywords.
I looked at your Google place page and noticed that 100% of your website reviews are Google reviews. If you look at a recently conducted study by SEOMoz there is a bigger correlation between high local search ranking and reviews from third party review sites than Google place review. I suggest you should ask for reviews on other sites like yelp.com, citysearch.com, judysbook and similar.
Diversity of review is also important as much as the volume of the reviews.

Hi atohad,
So far you have been ranking for "long-tail" variations of appliance repair. Those keywords are less competitive.
"Appliance Repair" has national appeal--thus the competition is greater.
Since you business is constrained by a geographical region (NYC) you would do better to find other long tail variations. For example, "appliance repair ny", or "appliance repair queens".
If you want to move away from the geotargeted keywords, then try other variations of your niche.

Links are the major component of the algorithms which decide where you rank therefore you will need to build links with the required anchor text Appliance Repair as currently there are only a couple using that anchor text to your site.
All other things being equal if competitor sites have more links and especially more relevant ones they will rank above your site for this term.
Hope this helps!

Please take a look at my keyword usage
Hi All, Traffic to few pages of my site is dipping from last couple of months. When I analyzed one of the web page (http://ow.ly/IEkt307dfNr) in Moz tools, it is warning that the keyword "dance classes" is used excessively in the page (30+ times). But, it is used in genuine manner; because that page is a listing page of "dance class teachers" who provide the service, we added "dance classes" under each of the provider. It helps users to connect with the teach easily. Is this okay or will it fall under keyword stuffing? Should I change something?

Not showing the right results in Google.de
Hi Moz, I have a question concerning Vintykids.com.
Technical SEO | | B.Great
The site comes in four languages: German on vintykids.com/de Dutch on vintykids.com/nl English on vintykids.com/en French on vintykids.com/fr The German language gives a problem. In Google.de (German Google) the site is completely indexed in German but we also see results in Dutch. So when you do a search in Google.de on their brandname (Vintykids) we see results in Dutch on vintykids.com.
We think we have set the meta's right in the German language on vintykids.com/de and we also managed some links to Vintykids.com/de from good quality and relevant German sites. What can we do further to get vintykids.com/de ranking in Google.de on the brandname? Thank you.0 -
Google Local Gone Loco
I am a bankruptcy attorney in Southern California. I have been doing my own SEO since I had a couple of bad experiences paying someone to "do" it in the past. If you want it done right, do it yourself I suppose. Anyway, I have been ranking well in Google local results. At first I peeked in at 3/3 showing on the first page of the searches. Then I climbed to Number 2 in local searches, probably as a result of finding sites and making sure my addresses, phone numbers and business names were all correct. However, this week (as I climbed to #3 spot in the local search for my city+ bankruptcy attorney, my Google local result dropped to page 2. One of my employees rated me on google local and gave me a google + which is gone and the pictures that I uploaded to Local Google are gone. I don't know if this is some kind of penalty because an employee gave me a rating (they were completely up front about working for me) or if something else is going on. I was also trying to claim my business on Yahoo (which resulted in some kind of "Account Suspension"). I have no idea what is going on. You can take a look at my site if it helps: http://ashcraftfirm.com We are trying to rank for "murrieta bankruptcy attorney" Thanks for any help you can provide.

Is there an easy tool to add all keywords I need to seomozpro?
In my website there are 3,300 products. www.theprinterdepo.com. I have about 200 keywords on the seomoz account. Every item has about 5 or more variations of keywords. examples: hp 1320 1320 printer hp 1320 refurbished 1320 hp printer hp laser 1320 and so on. The question is: Is there an easy way to add all the keywords related to my products and all its variations to the seomoz dashboard so I can more easily track them? If not, what do you suggest me to do?

Site disappearing from search for a certain keyword
I was wondering if someone has encountered the same problem as me. I was doing some changes on the frontpage of one of my clients' website, especially some redirections, and my site has disappeared from Google for the main keyword on the page. So, if I look for my page on Google, instead of seeing my page first, I no longer see my page, at all. All I've done was a 301 redirection from index.html to the domain name. Now, I changed everything back to how it was before. More precisely, I've done that 2 weeks ago. But, no change in Google. I checked Bing and Yahoo, my site appears first when I search for that specific keyword. Any ideas how long will it take for Google to see that I am not doing anything wrong with redirections? Or any idea at all?
