Does OSE Anchor Text Distribution CSV include internal links or external only?
-
Quite often when I'm using OSE and perform a CSV export, it looks like the total inbound link count and many phrases come from internal links for the domain in question. I haven't had the time to try and figure this out and don't know exactly how to go about figuring it out.
So the initial question is does OSE's anchor text distribution CSV include internal links or are they external only? And alternately, how do I test for this? I deal with sites that have tens or hundreds of thousands of pages and hundreds of thousands or millions of links...

Hey Websensible,
No, we haven't fixed it - because it isn't really bug - we are just grouping all anchor text counts (internal and external) together at the moment.
I am guessing any similarities between the counts is just coincidence since we haven't changed this behavior.

Has that been fixed now? I'm asking becuase I just downloaded an anchor text distribution report and the total links (for all anchor text) are almost exactly the same number as the total external inbound links given on OSE.

Hello Journeyman!
Great question - right now the anchor text contains both internal and external links and there isn't a good way to see which is which from the csv
We all here at SEOmoz recognize this shortcoming so we are planning to add the ability to drill down on the anchor text and see which links use which anchor text. That feature is coming out sometime this summer
Hope that helps and have a great day!

Same linking c-blocks trend as competitor
I noticed in our competitive link report that our number of linking c-blocks has risen and fallen in the exact same pattern as one of our competitors. Is there a reason why this would be happening?

OSE Backlink results - reported link not actually there?
Not a complaint, but a question to understand how the research tool operates: When I run backlink checks on websites, often the reported link is not only not on the page, but it's not found anywhere on the site. I use several tools to search for the link url as well as for the keyword. Why does the tool report a link is there, but I cannot find the links in some cases? Is there a lag in the information the tool is using, making it not quite up to date, or is it something else? Thanks much!

Link Blocks
Sorry, perhaps a noob question. In relation to site explorer, have also searched and unable to find any information, wondered if anyone could advise as to what "Linking C Blocks" are? Found under the "Compare Link Metrics" tab. Thanks in advance. Lee

How are our competitors getting these inbound linking domains?
I'm currently managing SEO for my company's website, and I'm getting into link building for the first time. As part of the process, I'm using Open Site Explorer to see who's linking into our competitor sites, to get a better sense of what's available to us in our particular avenue of e-commerce. However, I'm finding that our competitors are getting inbound links from high-authority sites pretty far afield from selling jewelry - census.gov, parallels.com, warnerbros.com, and others. I try clicking through to these links, but each link starts a download of a file. I've seen .f4v, .7z, and .apk files listed as inbound links to our competitor. How is this happening? Again, I'm new to link building, so there may be a simple answer here, and if so I apologize for asking. However, this seems really strange to me, and a difficult situation to confront.
