Does anyone know why my Home page isn't visible in search terms?
-
If I type in my meta description for my homepage in google search or any of my keywords only my inner pages are returned in the results. I have a PR3 on the homepage so I don't think google is blocking my site and all my inner pages seem to show up.

Thanks, our web company have set this up as a redirect the main website is .co.uk the .com should be redirected to this. You said that this is just the begining of potential problems is there more to it than just the redirect being problematic?
-
Works for me: set each one's geography in webmaster tools and put a UK & US address on each footer. Then add a bit of geographic linkbuilding
Great idea this week from TNW conference: set html lang="en-US" on the US version
(maybe also check your English language usage in line with this)

I agree Dejan. You are right!
-
That is not the problem.
Simple search for a piece of on-page content reveals that Google chooses .com as the content originator. Again in the results the page has problematic URL. Perhaps it's a redirect gone wrong but this could be solved simply by canonicalisation or 301 redirection.
This is in case Mick does not need both websites online. If he does there is still a solution but it would involve introducing geo specific signals to Google and setting preference in Google Webmaster Tools (among other things). Diversification of content would take time and may not be feasible in all cases.

Probably, Google is finding more relevant content in the inner pages than on the home page. Remove unnecessary meta tags and rework on the content part

http://www.filmcellcostumeideas.com/ is fighting against http://www.filmcellcostumeideas.co.uk/ in SERPS.
Also seeing some funny URLs like: http://www.filmcellcostumeideas.com/%3C?php%2520echo%2520zen_href_link(FILENAME_CONTACT_US)%3B%2520%3F%253E
This is just the beginning of potential problems.
Do you run .com and .co.uk on purpose? (e.g. for different target markets)

Wrong page ranking on SERP, above more relevant page
Often I will see the wrong page, something less relevant to a particular search, appear higher on the SERP than a more relevant page. Why does this happen and how can it be remedied? I found this Moz article, has anything been written on this topic more recently. Thanks! https://mza.seotoolninja.com/blog/wrong-page-ranking-in-the-results-6-common-causes-5-solutions

Home page optimisation question - Expanding box
Hi guys, I was wandering if anyone can help me on how google looks at expanding boxes now? What I am referring to is on our home page orderblinds.co.uk we have an article written which shows a taster of the information about the company, the user then has to click read more to expand the box and see the rest of the content. Is this bad for seo as when you view the html all the content is there but I'm sure google can work out that this text isn't visible until you click read more? Any feedback on this subject would be great,

Penalty for Changing Home Page Title Tags
Hey Mozzers I'm certain of the answer to this question, however I wanted to get some input from the experts in Moz-land to hopefully provide some additional perspective. I recently disagree with a client's assertion that there is some penalty Google levels for changing the title tags of your home page. Now, I understand changing the title tags can influence serp rankings, however, is anyone aware of some penalty Google levels for simply changing the title tags? Most of what I've read and experienced has people changing them all the time without some phantom penalty. It seems to me a problem of correlation = causality, in that people often attribute a drop to an action that may not have actually been the cause. Anyway, if you have any particular insight on this top I would appreciate it greatly. thanks!

Does the title tag on the home page affect sub-pages?
Hello. I am thinking of changing our home page title tag to include our two most valuable keywords from two of our sub-pages. Would this help the rankings of those two sub-pages? Thank you!

Canonical to the page itself?
Hello, I'd like to know what happens when you use canonical to the same page itself, like: Page "example.com" rel canonical="example.com" Does that impact in something? Bad or good? See ya!

URL for location pages
Hello all We would like to create clean, easy URLs for our large list of Location pages. If there are a few URLs for each of the pages, am I right when I'm saying we would like this to be the canonical? Right now we would like the URL to be: For example
On-Page Optimization | | Ferguson
Domain.com/locations/Columbus I have found some instances where there might be 2,3 or more locations in the same city, zip. My conclusion for these would be: adding their Branch id's on to the URL
Domain.com/locations/Columbus/0304 Is this an okay approach? We are unsure if the URL should have city,State, zip for SEO purposes?
The pages will have all of this info in it's content
BUT what would be best for SEO and ranking for a given location? Thank you for any info!0 -
Should one page with markers or six separate pages?
Hi - I'm working on a site that was set up with 6 bios on one page, with markers jumping to each person's name. I was thinking about separating those into 6 different pages, but not sure if that's the right thing to do. Advice about keeping the bios on one page vs splitting them up? (Am I more likely to rank for those peoples' names if I have a unique page, or is the one page url with each different marker in it, just as good?) Ranking well for those names isn't a huge goal of the site, but it would be nice to make the choice that would help with that rank. Thanks for your input Emma

Too many 301 redirects to home page - is this possible?
If a site has a bunch of 404’s that are basically old URL’s that no longer work and point to pages or documents that don’t exist anymore - Can someone clarify if it’s a problem when fixing a bunch of these 404’s to point them all to the home page? so if there is not really anywhere else that is applicable for the old broken URL, is it really a problem to 301 old pages to the site home page? I have read some different things on this recently on some different sites, so I just wondered what the latest thinking on this was….thanks...
