Non-www home page indexed, but www for rest of site
-
Hi there, grateful for any ideas on why this is happening:
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site:www.vitispr.com
vs
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site:vitispr.com
Google seems to be indexing and caching vitispr.com for our home page but the www. versions for everything else. As you can see the second query finds the home page.
Any ideas why that might be?
Other info that might be relevant:
- non-www etc. are all 301'd to www versions.
- moved domains/urls etc. around in March of this year and for a week or we were redirecting to the non-www version
- webmaster tools says 'www' preferred
Thanks!

Glad to hear it resolved. Sometimes patience is the only action required.

Hi Alan, posting this question clearly had an effect; within a week the google fairies had sorted themselves out and now only the www version is showing in SERPS.
-
will let you know. I'm a bit annoyed since our sitelinks seemed to disappear somewhere along the lines while these shenanigans were going on. hopefully they'll come back when it settles down
-
Glad to help. Curious to learn how it unfolds over time too though.
-
I was hoping that might be the case - needed someone with more experience to cast their eyes over it. Thanks!

Only thing I can figure is it's a lag in their update due to the switch in March. You're doing everything you need to / can / should for this type of situation, and I see you even have the rel=canonical set.

Is site: a reliable method for getting full list of indexed pages?
The site:domain.com search seems to show less pages than it used to (Google and Bing). It doesn't relate to a specific site but all sites. For example, I will get "page 1 of about 3,000 results" but by the time I've paged through the results it will end and change to "page 24 of 201 results". In that example If I look in GSC it shows 1,932 indexed. Should I now accept the "pages" listed in site: is an unreliable metric?

My New Pages Are Really Slow to Index Lately - Are Yours Slow Too ?
New pages on my site usually shoot right into the index - often in under 24 hours. Lately they are taking weeks to get into the index. Are your new pages slow to index lately? Thanks for anything that you can report.

Redesigned and Migrated Website - Lost Almost All Organic Traffic - Mobile Pages Indexing over Normal Pages
We recently redesigned and migrated our site from www.jmacsupply.com to https://www.jmac.com It has been over 2 weeks since implementing 301 redirects, and we have lost over 90% of our organic traffic. Google seems to be indexing the mobile versions of our pages over our website pages. We hired a designer to redesign the site, and we are confident the code is doing something that is harmful for ranking our website. F or Example: If you google "KEEDEX-K-DS-FLX38" You should see our mobile page ranking: http://www.jmac.com/mobile/Product.aspx?ProductCode=KEEDEX-K-DS-FLX38 but the page that we want ranked (and we think should be, is https://www.jmac.com/Keedex_K_DS_FLX38_p/keedex-k-ds-flx38.htm) That second page isn't even indexed. (When you search for: "site:jmac.com Keedex K-DS-FLX38") We have implemented rel canonical, and rel alternate both ways. What are we doing wrong??? Thank you in advance for any help - it is much appreciated.

Problem with duplicate pages due to mobile site.
Hey everyone, We've got an issue where our current shopping cart provider (Volusion) allows us to use canonical and rel="alternate" links, however the canonical links are forced on our Desktop as well as mobile pages. When they should only be on the mobile pages. You can view what I mean at the below two pages: http://www.absoluteautomation.ca/fgd400-sensaphone400-p/fgd400.htm https://www.absoluteautomation.ca/mobile/Product.aspx?ProductCode=FGD400 Does anyone have any ideas in terms of working around this?

Dev Site Was Indexed By Google
Two of our dev sites(subdomains) were indexed by Google. They have since been made private once we found the problem. Should we take another step to remove the subdomain through robots.txt or just let it ride out? From what I understand, to remove the subdomain from Google we would verify the subdomain on GWT, then give the subdomain it's own robots.txt and disallow everything. Any advice is welcome, I just wanted to discuss this before making a decision.

What happens to content under a category page that is not indexed?
We are reevaluating our URL structure. We have a flat architecture but would like to add subfolders per recommendations here and elsewhere. Some of our category pages are ad heavy/content light so we have them no indexed. We do have lots of quality content on the site that we would like to put under some of these keyword categories. Should we leave it flat? If Google does not see that category page then there will be no link from the homepage to the content page? Now: homepage/content-page Proposed: homepage/category/content-page (category is not indexed)
