How to find pages hardest hit
-
I have been hearing that panda can penalize a website for low quality pages. I have run duplicate content check and done my best to go through the whole website. I hear many people talking about deleting hardest hit pages, or fixing hardest hit pages.
My question is how can I find which pages on our website are hardest hit? Is there anyway to check a website for pages that might score low. We do have a ecom section to the website which I am concerned might be considered low quality for each product page. Any advice would be a great help.

I always look for patterns - if I examine X pages and see similar issues, that's a sign that it's a systemic problem.
If you are not familiar enough with your own site to know this already, my best recommendation is to take the time to look. Learn your own site. It is very time consuming yet worth every minute.

Alan,
Thank you very much for helping me clear this up. Your post and replies are extremely helpful and make it easy for me to understand. My ranking is back up after I made a few of these types of adjustment, but I am wondering are they any tools to determine if I have any pages that fall into this negative category, or do I just go through them one by one and make my best determination?

Link to Root ratio:
If you have 1000 links coming from 10 sites, that's an L2R ratio of 100
If you have 1000 links coming from 100 sites, that's an L2R ratio of 10
The lower the L2R average for any individual keyword phrase, and average across all inbound links, the healthier your inbound link profile.

false patterns are things that don't look like they're natural - so too many links of one type, or many links from a few sources are great examples. One slide I have lists several key aspects of myopic SEO, including text anorexia (very little unique content on a page), internal link poisoning (too many links all over the site), and other points as well - false patterns are just another issue in the mix.

Alan,
Thank you very much for forwarding this. So informative. I do have a few questions. You talk about Panda loving false patterns. I am not sure I understand perfectly a false pattern. Is this the small amount of main content compared to all other links on the main page?
Also I have having a hard time understanding link to root ratio. Do you have a post or a good reference so I can research this. I think this is something I have been missing. I am going back to re-read you post.
Thanks

Check out my recent blog post where I share the slide-deck and notes from my presentation at SMX Advanced a couple weeks ago. I focused on some examples of sites that got hit by Panda and also show ways to combat it.
Essentially if there is almost no unique content compared to other stuff going on for any given page (the ratio of unique content to other elements that repeat across the entire site), that's a big concern. But there's a lot more.

Does you page need to be unique to rank
What I mean by unique is : Let's imagine I want to rank one "seo ranking factors." In order to compete do I need to have (in terms of design) that is totally different than everything out there or can I rank with a page that is presented in a very similar way than everything out there but with different content. Thank you,

Page dropped after backlink
This is a bit of a odd one... I put two new pages on to my website. And built one backlink to each page (each from separate domains). The pages and backlinks have indexed quite quickly. The odd thing is that one of my pages has dropped significantly in ranking but the other has boosted significantly in ranking! The 1st page has come to page 1 of google, the other pages dropped to page 3 of google. Prior to building the links the ranks was stable. Any ideas?

If a page ranks in the wrong country and is redirected, does that problem pass to the new page?
Hi guys, I'm having a weird problem: A new multilingual site was launched about 2 months ago. It has correct hreflang tags and Geo targetting in GSC for every language version. We redirected some relevant pages (with good PA) from another website of our client's. It turned out that the pages were not ranking in the correct country markets (for example, the en-gb page ranking in the USA). The pages from our site seem to have the same problem. Do you think they inherited it due to the redirects? Is it possible that Google will sort things out over some time, given the fact that the new pages have correct hreflangs? Is there stuff we could do to help ranking in the correct country markets?

New Web Page Not Indexed
Quick question with probably a straightforward answer... We created a new page on our site 4 days ago, it was in fact a mini-site page though I don't think that makes a difference... To date, the page is not indexed and when I use 'Fetch as Google' in WT I get a 'Not Found' fetch status... I have also used the'Submit URL' in WT which seemed to work ok... We have even resorted to 'pinging' using Pinglar and Ping-O-Matic though we have done this cautiously! I know social media is probably the answer but we have been trying to hold back on that tactic as the page relates to a product that hasn't quite launched yet and we do not want to cause any issues with the vendor! That said, I think we might have to look at sharing the page socially unless anyone has any other ideas? Many thanks Andy

How does the crawl find duplicate pages that don't exist on the site?
It looks like I have a lot of duplicate pages which are essentially the same url with some extra ? parameters added eg: http://www.merlin.org.uk/10-facts-about-malnutrition http://www.merlin.org.uk/10-facts-about-malnutrition?page=1 http://www.merlin.org.uk/10-facts-about-malnutrition?page=2 These extra 2 pages (and there's loads of pages this happens to) are a mystery to me. Not sure why they exist as there's only 1 page. Is this a massive issue? It's built on Drupal so I wonder if it auto generates these pages for some reason? Any help MUCH appreciated. Thanks

Interesting PAGE RANK flow
I have a website with PR2 at the home page. In the top menu, i have a link to 4 different pages. All but one have PR1. The only difference is that the page that doesn't have the PR1, is a page where the content has been loaded using Ajax. This page says "Without qualify" Strange or logical?
