Drop In Analytics
-
So I have a site that was getting about 200 hits (not a lot). They came to me and asked to do SEO. There were over 50 pages in HTML format so I created header/footers and changed the .html pages to .php. I set forwards up in the htaccess and everything. I did everything that I was suppose to. Now when I go to the analytics it almost looks like it lost all it's traffic from the keywords it was ranked in. Any ideas on why?

Without looking at the actual pages to see if your headers and footers are set up properly, my guess would be that the "new" pages have not been fully indexed yet. Though, the 301 redirects in htaccess should make that less of a problem. They are 301 and not 302 or anything else, right?
Make sure that each page has a unique title tag and meta description. If you used a common header on each, a mistake many people make is not setting it up so that each page has its own unique title.

lol..that happened to me once. Glad that you realized what you did.

I actually feel really stupid When I moved it over I forgot to put the analytics. It was driving me absolutely NUTS! Thank you so much for your response.

It is impossible to comment without more information.
A transition that is done correctly will not have any decrease in ranking. At least, that is my experience.
- Can you supply a URL we may see?
- Are the htaccess rules correct? (Dump the file to pastebin for us)
- Why save the .php extension? (Just curious, unrelated)
- Are there differences between what you see now and what would be in your backup? From what you said it looks like only the URLs changed. Please note anything else that would look different if you were to view the source code.
I'd be glad to help you further. Look forward to your answers!
Cheers.

Is Google doing anything about the spam referrer plague in Google Analytics?
My client manages 15+ websites and we have observed the spam referrer issue has gotten steadily worse and worse in the last few months. I took the time to weed out the worst offenders via traffic filters but our referral traffic source garden was quickly full of weeds again a few weeks later. Does anybody know what the Google Analytics development team is doing to combat the spam referrer issue? I find it quite amazing that Google goes through the asinine effort to block out organic keyword data ("not found" & "not provided) but they don't seem to care about blacklisting/filtering spam referrers. Conversion analytics goals
Hello, I have to configure my analytics goals for my SEO estrategy. In Google Analytics I can choose between: destiny, duration, Pages/screens per session and event. But I don't have the best criteria for select each one. What are the best options for a content site and for a e - commerce? Otherwise, I wanna know which is a good bounce rate for a content site? And what is a good Avg. Page Load Time (sec)? Thanks in advance.

Localhost:4444 Showing Up in Google Analytics
Hello All, Lately in my Google Analytics account I have noticed a referral source labelled: localhost:4444 The number of visits is really high from this source, but I have no idea (no clue!) what it actually means. Can anyone shed some light on what this is about? Should I be creating some sort of filter to screen out this as a referral source (assuming it is not legitimate)? Many thanks in advance. Cheers!

Impressions in Google Analytics
I am trying to compare SERP impressions in Google Analtyics between two different time periods. I want to compare the last two months, with the previous two months. Now this works fine when I go to Traffic Sources > SEO > Queries. Our analytics has been set up since early last year, so I cannot understand why, for a couple of weeks at the start of the previous two months, it is showing that I have less than 10 impressions per day, then in one day, it jumps to 22,000 impressions, and starts to show 'real' information after that... Very frustrating when I am trying to show how effective my work has been. Can anyone shed any light on this?
