Link Building Advice
-
Hi Everyone,
I have just joined the community and am looking for some help regards Offsite SEO and Link Building.
I have done some basic SEO on my website 'Marketing Quotes'
- Added to web directories (although I am told they do not carry much weight)
- I have written content and articles around them (on ezine, squidoo etc.)
- I have written unique content for the site
- I have done guest posting on blogs
Not sure what to do next though for high power links.
I did notice a Q&A on contacting webmasters and asking for links (after building a relationship) but wondered if there was anything (offsite wise) that I have missed out?
Appreciate any advice.
Regards,
David

Affiliate programs
Social media profiles that will provide you both no follow and follow links (You actually need both because if all Google see's are follow links then they know you're trying to spam the system)
StumbleUpon, Google+, Twitter, WikiPedia, Flicker etc
Link Baiting
-
Hi David,
Less sophisticated linkbuilding methods such as directory submissions, article submissions and social bookmarking etc should just form a part of your overall promotional strategy.
They can still play a part and in many industries are still effective (don't believe everything you read about these kinds of tactics being worthless) - to gain any real traction with them though you need reasonable volumes as they are essentially useful for beefing out your link profile. You do however need to take care to achieve a certain level of quality so consider relevance in the equation - many niche/themed directories and social bookmarking websites offer good opportunities for a link as well as some traffic. Also be weary of your footprint, don't go crazy or use the same anchor text too much.
If your website is relatively new then my advice would be to embark on a full-scale content creation programme. Start creating genuinely useful and engaging to publish on your website and for every third or fourth post, offer it out as a guest post - take a look at my guide to guest posting for more advice on this area. Look further afield for guest blogs if your niche is quite small as there are bound to be audience crossovers.
I suggest that you really focus on these tactics initially and then look to branch out into other techniques such as linkbait (which tends to be more involved either financially or time wise) once you've established an audience.
I hope that helps, feel free to ask me any questions for further advice
James

Should we rel=nofollow these links ?
On our website, we have a section of free to low-cost tools that could help small business increase their productivity without spending big bucks. For example, this is the page for online collaboration tools: http://www.bdc.ca/EN/solutions/smart_tech/tech_advice/free_low_cost_applications/Pages/online_collaboration_tools.aspx None of the company pay anything to be on these list. We actually do quite a lot of research to chose which should be listed there and which should not. Recently, one of the company in our lists asked us to add rel=nofollow to the link to their website because they add been targeted by a manual action on Google and want their link profile to be as clean as possible (probably too clean). My question is : Should we add rel=nofollow to all these links ? Thanks, Jean-François Monfette

Ok to internally link to pages with NOINDEX?
I manage a directory site with hundreds of thousands of indexed pages. I want to remove a significant number of these pages from the index using NOINDEX and have 2 questions about this: 1. Is NOINDEX the most effective way to remove large numbers of pages from Google's index? 2. The IA of our site means that we will have thousands of internal links pointing to these noindexed pages if we make this change. Is it a problem to link to pages with a noindex directive on them? Thanks in advance for all responses.

Page for Link Building
Hello Guys, My question is about a link building process. We all know that some directories/sites do require a reciprocal link. Does it make any sense to creat a page in website exclusively to reciprocal links? And what we do with this webpage in terms of indexing, do folow, crawling...etc. Any sugestions are more then welcome 🙂 Tks in advance! PP

How does your crawler treat ajax links?
Hello! It looks like the seomoz crawler (and google) follows ajax links. Is this normal behavior? We have implemented the canonical element and that seems to resolve most of the duplicate content issues. Anything else we can do? Example: Krom

Internal Links on eCommerce sites
I have been working on an eCommerce site; www.pretavoir.co.uk over the past year. Improvements in SERPs have been good with many top three positions. However, there are other important keywords of similar difficulty which refuse to behave in a similar way.... The site is PR4 and has a homepage PA 52. The homepage includes links to internal brand pages eg Prada, Gucci etc. Q Would it be worthwhile creating footer anchor text with eaxct text eg Prada sunglasses, Gucci Sunglasses?? Thanks

First link count - passing of pagerank
I am asking this question after reading similar post. My question is does the first link count rule - Only the first link is counted, if we point to same page with two different anchor texts - applies to anchor text only. Does the PR is passed to the second link ?
