How much effect does number of outbound links have on link juice?
-
I am interested in your thoughts on the effect of number of outbound links (obls) on link juice passed? ie If a page linking to you has a high number of obls, how do you compute the effect of these obls and relative negative effect on linkjuice.
In the event that there are three sites on which you have been offered the opportunity of a link
Site A PA 30 DA50 Obls on page 10
Site B PA 40 DA50 Obls on page 15
Site C PA 50 DA50 Obls on page 20
How would you appraise each of these prospective page links (ignoring anchor text, relevancy, etc which will be constant)
Is there a rule of thumb on how to compare the linkjuice passed from a site relative to its PA and the number of obls? Is it as simple as page with 10 obls passes 10x juice of page with 100 obls?

In my experience links on highly trusted sites are more valuable than links on low quality sites. I wouldn't stress too much about the number of outbound links on a page. An authoritative and editorial link on harvard.edu would be more valuable with 100 other OBL than a link on a lower trust site/page with only 10 obl. Of course this is only my opinion, many people disagree with me.

I understand what you're saying. It can be a great deal of work getting a link from someone and you want to find an exact way of rating one over the other. But I think you have to factor in all of the other context factors.
I know from Rand and others' comments that a low PA/High DA link is favorable compared to a High PA/Low DA link. And I believe the PA score is affected by the number of outgoing links (Not 100% sure). This would mean that DA is a larger factor than the number of outgoing links.

I am interested in how the number of outbound links from a page linking to me might affect how much link juice is passed to me? As regards variables youre quite right I just wanted to keep that out of the calculation.
As regards 'opportunity' perhaps its more appropriate to see this Q as to help decide which site you should put your efforts into getting a link from. If a great site with PA/DA of 70/80 has 50 obls on the page youre likely to gain a link would you be better going after a link on a site of PA/DA of 35/40 with only 10 obls on the page?

I believe you are talking about inbound links. Links to you.
"In the event that there are three sites on which you have been offered the opportunity of a link"
To answer your question: I don't believe so. It's not as simple as counting the number of links on a page. You also have to factor in link placement. Top of the page vs. bottom of the page. And while you want to hold the other factors constant, anchor text, relevancy, etc., they will never be constant. There are always variables involved.

How can I stop a tracking link from being indexed while still passing link equity?
I have a marketing campaign landing page and it uses a tracking URL to track clicks. The tracking links look something like this: http://this-is-the-origin-url.com/clkn/http/destination-url.com/ The problem is that Google is indexing these links as pages in the SERPs. Of course when they get indexed and then clicked, they show a 400 error because the /clkn/ link doesn't represent an actual page with content on it. The tracking link is set up to instantly 301 redirect to http://destination-url.com. Right now my dev team has blocked these links from crawlers by adding Disallow: /clkn/ in the robots.txt file, however, this blocks the flow of link equity to the destination page. How can I stop these links from being indexed without blocking the flow of link equity to the destination URL?

Self-referencing links
I personally think that self-referencing links are silly. It's blatantly easy for Google to tell and my instinct says that the link juice for this would simply evaporate rather than passing back to itself. Does anyone have information backing me up from an authoritative source? I can't find any info about this linked to Matt Cutts, Rand or any of those I look up to.

Different links to to the same page
Hi, Based on the user's actions we post activity into users Facebook timeline. And each activity has link back to our particular page on our website. For example if original page was: www.Domain.com from Facebook timeline it would be like this: www.Domain.com?Ffb_action_ids=101508953168 Do you think this will have a negative effect on our page rankings as we will eded up having a lot of different URL's to the same page? www.Domain.com?Ffb_action_ids=101508953168 www.Domain.com?Ffb_action_ids=456788765609 etc.. Thank you, Karen Bdoyan

Internal Links on eCommerce sites
I have been working on an eCommerce site; www.pretavoir.co.uk over the past year. Improvements in SERPs have been good with many top three positions. However, there are other important keywords of similar difficulty which refuse to behave in a similar way.... The site is PR4 and has a homepage PA 52. The homepage includes links to internal brand pages eg Prada, Gucci etc. Q Would it be worthwhile creating footer anchor text with eaxct text eg Prada sunglasses, Gucci Sunglasses?? Thanks

If people link to you incorrectly, does it hurt you?
In Google WM tools I'm seeing so many 404 crawl errors but they're all from other sites linking to us incorrectly, which I can't do anything about. Will this hurt us somehow as far as SEO goes? The logical thing would be that it would hurt the site doiing the linking but it does come up in OUR WM tools, so it makes me wonder.

Linking to related business?
If your working with a local business, is it a good idea to reach out to similar businesses in other states and ask for a link? Example: I own a paint shop in Minnesota, and I reach out to a paint shop in California to see if we want to link to each others site to help our SEO. Because we aren’t in competition with each other wouldn’t this help us both?
