Optimisation for Google Images
-
What techniques do you use for the optimisation of images on Google.
Alt tag , image title
Surrounding text
Anyone tested actual linking to the image url and not the page url. I have achieved hundreds of top listed images but when it gets competitive what is the most useful technique you have used.
Thanks

There is no SEO benefit offered by using the title property for images.
I did forget to mention the file name as a factor as well. Provide your images with descriptive titles such as craftsman-wrench.jpg instead of image344213.jpg.

how important do you rate the title attribute on images. I have found this combined with a Alt tag to provide Top 3 positions for images -
title="Free Web tutorials"

how do you explain the ranking of images on competitive terms
The only manner in which I know images are associated with keywords are through the use of ALT text and links. Search engines certainly have the tools to associate images with the words surrounding the image or the title of the page which contains the image as well. I have not personally performed any testing in that regard and am unaware of such testing.
you mention declaing the image size what do you mean exactly by that.

how do you explain the ranking of images on competitive terms. What would you say is the most responsive way of improving image rank.
also you mention declaing the image size what do you mean exactly by that.

Three other thoughts come to mind:
1. Ensure your images are optimized for size, as in disk-size. If you use Photoshop, there is a specific option to save a file for use on websites. Otherwise Smush.it is a great lossless image compression tool.
2. Always declare your image dimensions. This step is part of site speed optimization.
3. If you use the image as a link and offer text as the same link, present it as a single link within a single tag. If you have an image showing a Ford Mustang and below the image you type the word "Ford Mustang" then the area should be a single link to the proper page of your site.

DMCA Complaint to Google
I have several sites copying the content from my pages. I filed numerous complaints with Google and checked under the DMCA dashboard and it's showing my requests are approved; however, still several days later the infringing pages still remain. I'm a bit confused by this as I thought Google was supposed to remove the page. I guess I'm not understand why it was "approved" when I don't see changes. Am I supposed to contact the site's owner to get the pages down now? I don't want to show duplicate content to my site. Please help!

Local Optimisation for Nearby Towns
Hi There, I'm helping a friend of a friend with her business website, which is basically providing health services within a local radius of her home, so we are hoping to get her ranking for phrases such as "massage Battersea" "massage Clapham" etc. (where Battersea & Clapham are two places in London). As i'm a bit new to local work like this my question is what is the best way to do this? I've considered creating a page for each of these terms, however it's hard to work out how they could have unique content as a massage in Clapham is very much the same as one in Battersea, and I don't want to fill the pages with useless information about where Battersea & Clapham are because i'm sure people searching those phrases already know that! The only other thing I can think of would be to just mention the areas on a generic massage page and hope that ranks with a bit of "massage battersea" etc. inbound anchor text. If someone who has experience in this could offer any advice that would be great. Many thanks, Stuart

Home page mostly graphic image
I have a new customer that is redesigning her website. The graphic designer has designed a lovely homepage that is mostly an image with some navigation and footer area for text information. My concern is that there isn't any real call to action or anything on the homepage design other than an interesting and fun graphic. It seems like years ago this was a common practice and then later it was looked down on as not good for the user experience or SEO. What is the latest thinking on this type of design? Should the homepage (www.mysite.com) be allowed to be mostly images? Or should we focus on the optimizing the internal pages and let the homepage be more creative?

Optimise duplicate products or canonical link
We exist in a niche market with a good % of products that sell well at specific times of the year. Lets say for example a red cup can be sold as a christmas red cup and a valentine red cup or just a red cup. Would we be best to optimize each specific product specifically for those seasons/events on different pages or keep google pointed to just one page using a canonical link.

The SEO and CRO Value of an Image Next to Page Content
If given the choice to add an attractive stock photo to a conversion focused page, do the pros out number the cons in terms of SEO and CRO. Some pros are that you can include the keyword in the image filename and image alt tag. It can also increase user experience by making the page more attractive. Some cons might be that it increases page load time which can have a negative impact on SEO and user expereience. Also the visitor might get distracted away from the lead form button.
