Rel = author display issue
-
I want to enter some products as blog posts. I don't want users to see the post info, but do want SE's to see rel="author".
I can do this by setting display to "none" in a CSS style. The post info does not appear in the browser but is still in the page source.
Will search engines be able to see the post info?
-
In a blog, post info is date and author name. It also includes the rel="author" tag which correctly attributes this content to the user.
-
Can you please clarify exactly what you mean by "post info". What information is being hidden via CSS?
-
Thanks.
Actually, manipulating search results never occurred to me, and there is a logical reason to do this: these are products entered as blog posts. I want them to appear more like product pages than blog posts, so I don't want the post info (date and author name) to appear to the user.
But I do want search engines to see it so this content can be correctly attributed via rel="author". That is the only intent here.
There are no keywords involved in the post info and I really don't see how this could be considered spamming.

Will search engines be able to see the post info?
Yes. Search engines can read the HTML. Since the HTML code is unaffected by this change, search engines will be able to read it.
There is not a logical reason to present text in HTML then hide it in CSS unless you are trying to manipulate search results. Even if you come up with a reason, search engines will likely view this tactic as black hat and you are highly likely to be penalized. I strongly advise an alternative solution.

Should I keep writing about the same using rel canonical?
Hi, The service we provide has not so many searches per month. A long tail keyword that describes the service well has at the most 400 searches per month. We wrote a post for this keyword and we ranked number 1 for many months. Now we're on page 2 and I the truth is we stopped writing blog posts because we were raking well for our best keywords. I added a few new posts and lost ranking on my top keywords so I gave up, deleted them and recover the rankings for the keywords I wanted the most. The problem is that I have lost these positions and I know we're supposed to be updating the blog regularly. What would you suggest? Should we keep writing about the same thing and use rel canonical? There aren't that many keywords related to what we offer. I appreciate any ideas.

Shopify duplicate content issue
We recently moved out site to shopify but now have a duplicate content issue as we have the same products in different collections. I have added canonical code to get rid of this but my webmaster tools still shows hundreds of duplicate pages. How can I tell if the code I added is working? How long will it take for google to recognise this and drop the duplicates from their index and is this likely to have a significant impact on SERPS? Our we page is www.devoted2vintage.co.uk. Thanks Paul

How to correct a google canonical issue?
So when I initially launched my website I had an issue where I didn't properly set my canonical tags and all my pages got crawled. Now in looking at the search engine results I see a number of the pages that were meant to be canonical tagged to the correct page showing up in the results. What is the best way to correct this issue with google? Also I noticed that while initially I was ranking well for the main pages, now those results have disappeared entirely and deeper in the rankings I am finding the pages that were meant to be canonical tagged. Please Help.

Problem with Rel Canonical
Background: We check to make sure that IF you use canonical URL tags, it points to the right page. If the canonical tag points to a different URL, engines will not count this page as the reference resource and thus, it won't have an opportunity to rank. If you've not made this page the rel=canonical target, change the reference to this URL. NOTE: For pages not employing canonical URL tags, this factor does not apply. Clearly I am doing something wrong here, how do I check my various pages to see where the problem lies and how do I go about fixing it?
