How often should we re-submit the site map
-
Hello,
my question is how often should we need to re- submit our site map in google webmaster tools?
like we are using prestashop and we keep on adding new products to our site. is we have a plugin to generate the site map from our backend.
is it necesary to login in to google webmaster tools every day and re submit our sitemap to google?
-
I do agree with you..as I told before there are tons of tools available to do this process automatically. I will try to use one of the most popular addon from prestashop addons site.. And let's see how it goes
-
Thank you Ravi. I understood the question and the answer is correct.
I'll share one example. I operate a site which runs on XenForo forum software. There is an add-on extension called XenUtiles which offers sitemap functionality. There is an admin panel for the extension whereby I simply check a box to submit to Bing, and another box to submit to Google. There is another tab whereby I set the frequency and time of submissions. It all happens automatically and without logging in to Bing nor Google.
If you pick any software package such a Joomla, for example, there are likely dozens of extensions which provide this functionality. There are many more which can be applied to any site.

i guess his question is how can we automatically submit sitemaps to both Google and Bing without the need to log into WMT.
-
There are literally hundreds of software packages which generate sitemaps. You would need to check the instructions for whatever software you use to generate the sitemap.
-
When I look at your sitemap I see mostly web page URLs with some image URLs as well. If you wish to exclude images from your sitemap, you should check the sitemap generating software for instructions on making that adjustment.

"You can automatically submit sitemaps to both Google and Bing without the need to log into WMT."
Would you Please clarify how to do it.
-
thanks for the reply..
i guess there is some module in prestashop modules which creates the site map everyday at midnight and submits automatically to WMT.. i will have a look at that..
but as i have asked in my other thread in WMT the type of site map showing is "images" and i dont know how to change that to URL's
this is our site map www.digitalcompring.com/sitemap.xml
thanks

Sitemaps are not required at all on a site with solid navigation. With that understood, an HTML sitemap can be useful for users and it is easy to automate both the HTML sitemap generation and the XML submission process.
In a perfect world, you can set your site to automatically submit a new site map whenever a new product or page is added. Just be sure not to go completely overboard. You do not want to submit more then 1 sitemap per hour.
If your developer is not able to generate updated sitemaps automatically based on content, then you can submit a daily sitemap update as well. You can automatically submit sitemaps to both Google and Bing without the need to log into WMT.

Google Search Console Site Map Anomalies (HTTP vs HTTPS)
Hi I've just done my usual Monday morning review of clients Google Search Console (previously Webmaster Tools) dashboard and disturbed to see that for 1 client the Site Map section is reporting 95 pages submitted yet only 2 indexed (last time i looked last week it was reporting an expected level of indexed pages) here. It says the sitemap was submitted on the 10th March and processed yesterday. However in the 'Index Status' its showing a graph of growing indexed pages up to & including yesterday where they numbered 112 (so looks like all pages are indexed after all). Also the 'Crawl Stats' section is showing 186 pages crawled on the 26th. Then its listing sub site-maps all of which are non HTTPS (http) which seems very strange since the site is HTTPS and has been for a few months now and the main sitemap index url is an HTTPS: https://www.domain.com/sitemap_index.xml The sub sitemaps are:http://www.domain.com/marketing-sitemap.xmlhttp://www.domain.com/page-sitemap.xmlhttp://www.domain.com/post-sitemap.xmlThere are no 'Sitemap Errors' reported but there are 'Index Error' warnings for the above post-sitemap, copied below:_"When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some of the URLs were unreachable. Please check your webserver for possible misconfiguration, as these errors may be caused by a server error (such as a 5xx error) or a network error between Googlebot and your server. All reachable URLs will still be submitted." _

Also for the below site map URL's: "Some URLs listed in this Sitemap have a high response time. This may indicate a problem with your server or with the content of the page" for:http://domain.com/en/post-sitemap.xmlANDhttps://www.domain.com/page-sitemap.xmlAND https://www.domain.com/post-sitemap.xmlI take it from all the above that the HTTPS sitemap is mainly fine and despite the reported 0 pages indexed in GSC sitemap section that they are in fact indexed as per the main 'Index Status' graph and that somehow some HTTP sitemap elements have been accidentally attached to the main HTTPS sitemap and the are causing these problems. What's best way forward to clean up this mess ? Resubmitting the HTTPS site map sounds like right option but seeing as the master url indexed is an https url cant see it making any difference until the http aspects are deleted/removed but how do you do that or even check that's what's needed ? Or should Google just sort this out eventually ? I see the graph in 'Crawl > Sitemaps > WebPages' is showing a consistent blue line of submitted pages but the red line of indexed pages drops to 0 for 3 - 5 days every 5 days or so. So fully indexed pages being reported for 5 day stretches then zero for a few days then indexed for another 5 days and so on ! ? Many ThanksDan0 -
Duplicate Content - Mobile Site
We think that a mobile version of our site is causing a duplicate content issue; what's the best way to stop the mobile version being indexed. Basically the site forwards mobile users to "/mobile" which is just a mobile optimised version of the original site. Is it best to block the /mobile folder from being crawled?

Re-Platforming our ecommerce site. What am I missing?
Hello, We're going to be moving our niche ecommerce site with a catalog of over 4,000 products over to a new ecommerce platform (magento). All url structure will be changing although about 70% of the content will be staying the same such as meta info and product page content. We'll be doing 301 redirects of all old url's to new url's and we'll have a new google sitemap submitted immediatly. So my question is.. What MORE can I do to keep our site from dropping in the search engines while our site is being re-crawled? Does anyone have any experience regarding what normally happens during a website replatform such as this? Thanks in advance for your help!

Google has not been visiting my site
Hi I am working on a site at the moment http://www.cheapflightsgatwick.com and i had the site using a different template and in the search engines for the search term cheap flights gatwick we were fourth and for the term holiday magazine we were 12th in google but now we are not even in google on the first page for the search terms. But now after changing the template in joomla our rankings have gone out of the window. It took me about a day to sort out the site with the new template so i was not expecting any problems with the search engines but for some reason there is. If you put into the search engine www.cheapflightsgatwick.com then you will see that google has not visited the site for four days and also it is not showing the description and instead it is showing details about joomla. Can anyone let me know if there is anything i need to do to sort this out and why google is taking so long to visit my site

Is it a good idea to make 301 from a site which you know google has banned certain keywords for to a new site with similar content
Here is a short question re. 301. I read Dovers article on how to move an old domain to a new one. Say you have been a little inexperienced regarding linkbuilding and used some cheap service in the past and you have steadily seen that certain keywords have been depreciating in the SERP - however the PR is still 3 for the domain - now the qustion is should you rediect with a 301 in .htaccess to a new domain when you know that google does not like certain keywords with respect to the old site. Will the doom and gloom carry over to the new site?
