Microdata & Competeing against Amazon in the SERPs
-
Hello...
I have an ecomm clients who's competing against Amazon in the SERPs. Amazon does a great job of leveraging micro-data.
Here's the rub... Amazon is ranking for product level pages and my client is ranking for category level pages.
How can my client leverage micro-data to 'compete'?
-
Let me be more specific...
My question is... in a SERP where I have a category page with no schema mark up & Amazon has a product WITH schema mark-up...
Are there strategies to use schema mark-up on a category page to gain some in-SERP extras - i.e. stars, price, stock info or anything else. with an emphasis on anything else.

Hi Darren,
To answer your question on how you can leverage microdata for your clients website? In a nutshell - just do it. Feel free to refer to Schema.org for documentation and examples.
As far as implementing microdata goes, I highly doubt it will help you "win" in SEO. Why? Mainly because it's a signal for the major search engines to highlight the content, context and relevancy of the page - not a crucial ranking factor. Amazon uses microdata but that's not the reason they are dominating the SERPs.

Hreflang Tags & Canonicals Being Used
We have a site on which both hreflang tags and canonicals are being used. There are multiple languages, but for this I'll explain our problem using two. There are a ton of dupe page titles coming up in GSC, and we're not sure if we have an issue or not. First, the hreflang tags are implement properly. UK page pointing there, US page pointing there. Further down the page, there are canonical tags - except the UK canonical tag points to the UK page, and the US version points to the US page. I'm not sure if this will cause an issue in terms of SEO or indexing. Has anyone experienced this before or does anything have any insight into this? Thanks much! Matt

URL Parameter & crawl stats
Hey Guys,I recently used the URL parameter tool in WBT to mark different urls that offers the same content.I have the parameter "?source=site1" , "?source=site2", etc...It looks like this: www.example.com/article/12?source=site1The "source parameter" are feeds that we provide to partner sites and this way we can track the referral site with our internal analytics platform.Although, pages like:www.example.com/article/12?source=site1 have canonical to the original page www.example.com/article/12, Google indexed both of the URLs

www.example.com/article/12?source=site1andwww.example.com/article/12Last week I used the URL parameter tool to mark "source" parameter "No, this parameter doesnt effect page content (track usage)" and today I see a 40% decrease in my crawl stats. In one hand, It makes sense that now google is not crawling the repeated urls with different sources but in the other hand I thought that efficient crawlability would increase my crawl stats. In additional, google is still indexing same pages with different source parameters.I would like to know if someone have experienced something similar and by increasing crawl efficiency I should expect my crawl stats to go up or down?I really appreciate all the help!Thanks!0 -
Should I build & try to rank several pages for similar keywords?
I have a client who's domain already ranks #1 on Google for 'automotive advertising agency'. However we want several listing on the first page. Should I create a few more pages like www.domain.com/automotive-advertising-agency www.domain.com/advertising-agency www.domain.com/automotive-advertising I'm assuming I can get these pages to rank well, but I'm wondering if Google will penalize us for this. Is this a good or bad idea?

How to get power tweets & Likes for social signals!
Hi, Just been looking into social signals a little deeper. From what I have read a tweet from one page is not the same as a tweet from another page, the authority and influence is also a big part. So a tweet from CNN does a lot more then a tweet from a random. So how do you find these authority and influential pages/users? I have come across Klout.com which gives a score out of 100, which is one way I guess BUT I have also noticed mozbar stats change for different facebook pages. Q: Can you use the mozbar on facebook & twitter pages to workout who will generate the best social signals? Cheers

What is the best way to scrape serps for targeted keyword research?
Wanting to use search operators such as "KEYWORD inurl:blog" to identify potential link targets, then download target url, domain and keyword into an excel file. Then use SEOTools to evaluate the urls from the list. I see the link aquisition assistant in the Moz lab, but the listed operators are limited. Appreciate any suggestions on doing this at scale, thanks!

Is it possible for one man to go against industry leaders in serps?
Hi, Is it possible for an individual to go against the big boys in a industry sector? Lets say flowers in the UK, all the massive flower companies go for 2 keywords: 'flowers delivered' (30,000 ems) and 'flowers by post' (30,000 ems) Would it be possible to start a new site and within 6 months (July) be up in the top 5? Scrap any exact match domains as there gone, I'm talking about creating a brand such as flowerpower.co.uk picking a term and going for it. Is this possible?
