Does focussing deep linking too much on one page have a negative impact elsewhere?
-
Hi, I'm just starting a backlinking campaign on a new website and am focussing on one deep page for client - focussing a lot of good quality backlinks on that one page.
I'm aware that most of the other pages, including homepage, lack good backlinks.
Can I go ahead and focus powerful backlinks on that one 'deep' page without a problem, or may that approach result in negative impacts on other pages' SERPs.

You're welcome Luke, glad to have helped

Thanks Simon for the great answers, and thanks Casey for your interesting question too. Much appreciated

Hi Casey
Yes, that would likely be fine at face value (though still not ideal for reasons covered shortly) and in Luke's question it's about one deep page rather than another page at top-level. If the page is so important, then probably a good idea to move it higher up as shown in your example.
With this suggestion though, it's very much 'putting all the eggs in one basket'. It's usually a better strategy to create a really valuable website rather than relying on just 1 valuable webpage.
Using an analogy; a one-man football team wouldn't be that successful no matter how many fans he had, a strong team supporting that one-man would surely achieve more and please the crowd more-so.
Creating other useful pages to support the site overall and this page in-question, with link building to those pages, would provide a better user experience and offering than just having 1 useful page amongst lots of useless ones.
Though if the business strategy is fulfilled by just relying on one page and one page alone, then yes it would be the best option available to concentrate on just that one page.
So two possible options between us, depending on the business objectives.

Simon

Hi Simon,
What about when you have a average site no one really cares about, but on this average site they have a page with really awesome content and it looks like this:
- http://www.boringsite.com/ - 30 inbound links
- http://www.boringsite.com/really-awesome-content/ - 3000 inbound links
Would that not make sense? Will Google still see that as un natural, or will they know the reason for the link discrepancies?
Thanks,
Casey

Hi Luke
What you will be risking with this strategy is creating a Link Profile for the website that looks Unnatural for which a negative impact such as devaluing the links could potentially occur.
By all means work on getting some great links into this important page, but don't ignore the rest of the site in the process, ensure that other pages and areas of the site also receive some good links too.
"Everything in Moderation" (everything ethical & good practice that is) as the saying goes, is usually a safer bet when it comes to SEO. Vary the type of links that you actively try to gain and where those links are going to.
Regards
Simon

Inbound link is follow link but we put no follow link back - is it beneficial for rankings?
Dear Moz Community, We are operating in a niche market, where there are not so many content marketing options. What we are left with are link exchanging with relevant sites that are on the same topic but to not directly compete with us. Now we know that if we link back to site A and site a links back to us - for google this is not a very good link. But, some of the sites we are exchanging links with, do not know the term follow vs no follow links. My question - if your link is to site A is a no follow link but they give us a follow link - does it mean thats a better option than a follow vs follow. Thanks for help!

301 redirect lost page authority & total links how ensure it passes on.
hello, I recently changed from www to non www. I have redirected my whole website so if I type www. it goes to the non-www page. doing a open site explorer I noticed my www. still has the page authority 14/100 with 6 links. where as the non-www page has 1/100 page authority and no links. how do I get the www. to mirror the non-www links?
Link Building | | finnmoto
eg if you goto http://www.finnmoto.com.au/mens-motorcycle-kevlar-hoodie/ it will goto the non-www version automatically, so why does the non-www replicate the page authority / total links attached picture for reference.
Google webmaster has been selected for non-www, its been about 2 weeks.
my domain authority i think about about 21 or more now its 19 aswell. I have a feeling:
nofollow or rel=canonical has something to do with it but Ill need read into what that does and how to apply. any ideas? uRiJ2Ul.png?10 -
Link Building
I'm having difficulty creating a solid link base. I would prefer to only have links that are on relevant sites that are likely to drive traffic rather then just adding my company page to site directories. I've checked out the whiteboard Friday edition of link building and have also used the new Moz analytics that helps recommend sites to link to, but all the recommendations were directories. So, could anyone hold my hand and guide me through the world of Link building? Your help, as always, is much appreciated. Thanks everyone Dave

Why do I have so many nofollow links? I have never created one!
www.sylvaniachurch.com shows over 14,000 nofollow links, but I have never deliberately created a nofollow link. How, then, did I collect so many?

Is link exchange a reliable source to get back links?
I read a latest post on seomoz that _“Do not buy or exchange link with anyone who contacts you. This is completely against Google's policies and if they were to find out, you could be penalized." So I went through Google's ''Link Schemes'' and found that ''Excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you")'' can negatively impact a site's ranking . _ So is it the ''excessive'' link exchanging that can cause a negative impact? Exchanging links with good quality, cached sites (without excessive doing) can do good or bad? Can anyone please explain to me in detail?

If 50% of our links come from one source, will that hurt us?
We have a partnership with another site that we write content for and 50% of our inbound links are from them. Could this hurt us in any way?

Link value
Hi I have some links from blogs to our ecom website. My question is if anyone knows what happens if you have several different blogs on .blogspot linking in to you. Does that make them loose value because they are on the same domain? I can probably quite easily have 5-10 blogs on blogspot all with PA of 35-40 link in to us. Is it worth striving for or should i strive to get blogs that have their own domain to link into us instead ? Or equally important ? Dan Lærum
