Rotating Banner Ad Value?
-
Sorry if this has been discussed couldn't find a post about it.
Was wondering the potential link value of a rotating banner link.
Situation 1: A site that wants $50/CPM. Those impressions are random throughout the month and can be on any page within the site.
Situation 2: A sidebar banner ad that rotates with other banners.
Will these links be recognized and is there link value?
Thanks

Most likely it will not provide value, but to be sure, check the "source code" of the site and see how the code is being generated on other banners in the same position.
Look for the actual URL of those sites in a static reference. But overall, my feeling is that banner ads won't really help. You mainly will want text ads with your "anchor text" pointing back to your specified URL from a quality, content-related site.

Yea just got through reading the article. Makes sense now, Cheers

Sorry about that. I typed the response out too quick! To summarize: Yes, you do want followed links. They will help you rank higher in the search engines.
However, according to Google, paid ads should never be made to be followed links. Google says that paid ads should be designated as such, by giving them a rel="nofollow" attribute.
The link I posted in the previous response as well as the one below explain it pretty well.

Sorry your wording confused me a bit.... So you dont want followed links? I thought that is what you did want? Or is it just because it is a paid ad that makes a difference.
-
It would really depend on how the links were implemented on the site serving them.
However, you may want to consider this: Google doesn't like when an ad link that does not carry the rel="nofollow" attribute, which would prevent the link from helping to improve your search engine rank. So, proceed at your own risk with ads that have "followed" links.

Google Adding Incorrect Location to the end of Title Tags in SERPs
I have an issue with the way Google is adding to a client’s Title Tag. Since we relaunched the website a few months ago, Google has been adding an indiscriminate “– London” to the end of title tags. That would be fine if the company was solely London based but we have stores outside London too, and it’s adding “– London” to the end of those individual store title tags there too. So, if you do a search for “location widget” our page title is:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | DrewDaviesLondon
“location widget | Brand name”
but then Google pops in:
“location widget | Brand name - London”
Which isn’t great if the location is in Scotland! We are adding structured data to the store pages to try and combat this, the store pages are all well optimised for the location (and ranking well), but I’m wondering if I’ve missed anything obvious? I thought it might lesson as the new site became more trusted in Google, but the rogue “London” seems to be increasing... Thanks for your help!0 -

TLA / Text Link Ads
Hi folks, Curious to hear what people know about the TLA situation since reports surfaced that they'd been de-indexed. It looks like it's all been quiet since those early reports. Not many people admit to using TLA so perhaps you've heard something on the grapevine... nudge nudge wink wink.

Do Banner Ads Help In Link Building?
We have been contacting some webmasters for building links, but a lot of them will only do banner ads on there site. Is having a keyword rich alt tag on the banner ad and a do follow link to our site just as good? Would like to hear your thoughts and l experiences in trying to leverage these banner ads to help in seo ranking. Thank you in advance for your input!

Value of Newspaper Comment Links
Although most newspaper comment sections are a no-follow zone, I have noticed that some comments I have posted with links end up being followed. The comments are participatory and the links relevant and even add to the conversation. My theory is that some comments are monitored and if the editors are looking to encourage discussion and don't feel like your spamming, why not take the no follow off. I do plan on doing some testing with poor, spammy comments on the same papers but am encouraged and would like to know what other people have found.
