Geo-Redirection
-
Our client has two almost identical sites targeting:
Australia (www.mysite.com.au)
Rest of World (www.mysite.com)
Currently they have splash page on www.mysite.com asking users to select:
Australia
Rest of World (redirects to: www.mysite.com/home)
I'm thinking they should get rid of slash page and simply auto detect if user on www.mysite.com is based in Australia and serve a message "Do you want to visit our .com.au site.
It's not helped by the fact the .com site appears to get served ahead of .com.au iin australia as both sites are hosted in US. Looking to change this!
Thanks in advance for your help!

GWT > site config > settings. geo target www.mysite.com.au to AU.
As for www.mysite.com, leave it "Unlisted" under Geographic target.
This will make the AU site be seen only in AU while the .com shows world wide.
-
In my experience you would want to have two seprate sites with seprate content for the Global market and for the AU specific market.
Having the same content on both the .com and the .com.au is not exactly going to do any thing good for your clients website.
Also with the re directs, I have seen some really messy ones in the past which can also block the ability to crawl the site.

What's with the redirects?
Hi there,
Technical SEO | | HeadStud
I have a strange issue where pages are redirecting to the homepage.Let me explain - my website is http://thedj.com.au Now when I type in www.thedj.com.au/payments it redirects to https://thedj.com.au (even though it should be going to the page https://thedj.com.au/payments). Any idea why this is and how to fix? My htaccess file is below: BEGIN HTTPS Redirection Plugin <ifmodule mod_rewrite.c="">RewriteEngine On

Basic Redirection Question
I am doing a 301 Redirect from site ABC to site XYZ. I loaded the following .htaccess file by ftp to the ABC.com/ server: Redirect 301 / http://XYZ.com/ This was completed over 30 days ago, OSE is not showing any of the links and is failing to show that abc.com is redirected even though the MozBar shows a successful 301 http status code. Is this still just a waiting game or is it not advised to do a redirect this way for seo? PS: ahrefs is showing the redirect itself, however, it is not showing the links going to site ABC.com/ as passing to site XYZ.com/ . Any help is appreciated.

Redirecting old Sitemaps to a new XML
I've discovered a ton of 404s from Google's WMT crawler looking for mydomain.com/sitemap_archive_MONTH_YEAR. There are tons of these monthly archive xmls. I've used a plugin that for some reason created individual monthly archive xml sitemaps and now I get 404s. Creating rules for each archive seems a bad solution. My current sitemap plugin creates a single clean one mydomain.com/sitemap_index.xml. How can I create a redirect rule in the Redirection WP plugin that will redirect any URL that has the 'sitemap' and 'xml' string in it to my current xml sitemap? I've tried using a wildcard like so: mysite.com/sitemap*.*, mysite.com/sitemap ., mysite.com/sitemap(.), mysite.com/sitemap (.) but none of the wildcard uses got the general redirect to work. Is there a way to make this happen with the WP Redirection plugin? If not, is there a htaccess rule, and what would the code be for it? Im not very fluent with using general redirects in htaccess unfortunately. Thanks!

Where is the 301 redirect?
Hi, in the last week I take an issue for 301 permanent redirect for a subfolder in the main website! In that folder i have a index.php file for a google map fullscreen edition and the only link who connects the wordpress website with the subfolder is only a direct link! Is that an error of seomoz app or something else? Thanks 1.jpg

301 redirects inside sitemaps
I am in the process of trying to get google to follow a large number of old links on site A to site B. Currently I have 301 redirects as well a cross domain canonical tags in place. My issue is that Google is not following the links from site A to site B since the links no longer exist in site A. I went ahead and added the old links from site A into site A's sitemap. Unfortunately Google is returning this message inside webmaster tools: When we tested a sample of URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs redirect to other locations. We recommend that your Sitemap contain URLs that point to the final destination (the redirect target) instead of redirecting to another URL. However I do not understand how adding the redirected links from site B to the sitemap in site A will remove the old links. Obviously Google can see the 301 redirect and the canonical tag but this isn't defined in the sitemap as a direct correlation between site A and B. Am I missing something here?
