Gaining More Search Terms
-
Hello,
Ive been looking for answer to this but can't find it. How can you bump the number of search terms a search engine associates with content it has already indexed? I assume increasing links will do this, but I was wondering if there are other techniques?
For example if Google webmaster tools lists a site at having some 700 terms it relates to your site, how do you increase this on your already existing content, to sort of saturate the number of words associated per page?
-
Content! If you write well, to communicate to the site user, you will do well.
You will also tend to naturally use crucial words/phrases which normally go with your main subject. (A page on a baseball game, for example, will naturally include team names, runs, pitchers, bats, balls, teams, stars, innings, etc.) Those will tend to serve as secondary keywords, which in turn makes the page appear on more searches.
-
Expand the content. Explain in more depth, give examples, add images with captions, add data tables. The goal is to increase the number of words on a page and thus the number of words that combine to match queries.
-
Having varied ALT text in your links will totally expand the search terms that people will find your site with.
Varied ALT text in your images will also help quite a bit.
The optimal way to increase your sites targeted search terms is new pages with new content.
Or just adding new content to older pages as well.
As for brainstorming new search terms, I like to work with others, more brains can help with more unique ideas.

Rankings Drop Across Search Engines
Hello! I know this may sound a bit weird, but has anyone experienced any search engine rankings drop after Penguin on Bing and Yahoo as well? I am trying to locate the issue with one website I am doing optimization on and it has ranked lower on some keywords on all three search engines, directing me to suspect there's an issue with the site itself. Thanks!

Link building when your domain name is your head term.
Hello, I am working with a company that their domain name is the same as the head term. For example, if I was going for the head term coffee, and my site was coffee.com. This is specifically in the medical space, and i'm competing directly with Web MD and The Mayo Clinic, my advantage on the term is the EMD. We have a legitimate site with thousands of pages of relevant content, and I am starting a guest blogging campaign on relevant health sites. My real challenge is when I go for anchor text links should I ideally go for [head term] or [headterm.com] as the anchor text. Thanks in advance for your insights Zach

Local Search Citation Building - 2 links on 1 page?
I have the opportunity to display information about a business on a handfull of high PR web pages (with relevant content, not directory listings). I'd like to use these listings to build local search citations and homepage authority/rank for chosen anchortext. The format allows name, address, phone number, email & url plus a description of the business (short paragraph that can contain a link) - see below. Should I link from the homepage url and body anchor text? Will search engines ignore the anchor text used in the 2nd link? Example Limited, 123 Example Road, London N12 3AA United Kingdom Tel: 020 712 3456 Email: ** [email protected]** **Web: www.example.com ** A unique service offering special widgets to customers in the London area
