403 forbidden error website
-
Hi Mozzers,
I got a question about new website from a new costumer http://www.eindexamensite.nl/.
There is a 403 forbidden error on it, and I can't find what the problem is.
I have checked on: http://gsitecrawler.com/tools/Server-Status.aspx
result:
URL=http://www.eindexamensite.nl/ **Result code: 403 (Forbidden / Forbidden)**
When I delete the .htaccess from the server there is a 200 OK :-). So it is in the .htaccess.
.htaccess code: ErrorDocument 404 /error.html

Hi everyone,
I know this thread hasn't been active for a while but i'm looking for an answer relating to a similar issue. Our infrastructure team had issues a few weeks ago and were routing bot traffic to a slave server. This obviously flagged up 403 errors in webmaster tools.
Having removed the traffic diversion our site hasn't been indexed in the three weeks since serving Googlebot with a 403 response. Does anyone have experience of Google delaying reindexing of a site after experiencing a 403 response?
Thanks

Hi Alan,
Ok we start cutting the htaccess. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks!

Thanks Anthony!
That's the strange thing, website is working only there is still a 403.
We will check chmod status.

Hello Maarten
Those RewriteCond entries are cumulative and it looks like there are missing commands.
Who edited that file last, and what did they change?
The way conditionals work is you set a condition, Then you add a command, then a line break You can add more than one condition and it acts as AND
This page has what look like too many conditions and not enough commands -but it could be ok
Try adding a blank line between the rule entries and the Cond entries (but not between the Cond and the Rule entries)
Here is what to do to test anything like this: Save a copy of the .htaccess Then start editing it Delete everything below ##Start rewrites See if that fixes it. If not, the problem is above or if that fixes it, the problem is below Keep cutting the file in half or adding half until you discover the problem line
It is harder with all those conditionals, I suspect it is the lower block that is the problem
So remove those Cond entries from the bottom up

Follow up:
I'm not seeing any errors when visiting the site (http://www.eindexamensite.nl/). It seems to be working perfectly. Could it be something client-side w/ your caching or system time?

Hi Maarten,
I'm not extremely familiar .htaccess or the typo3 CMS, but it could be the issue is simply a result of misconfigured file permissions for a specific directory or path.
I'd check the permissions on all of the paths that are affected by the .htaccess and make sure they're readable and executable (7,5,5).
This could explain why you get the 200 status w/o the .htaccess but the 403 error with it.
Good luck!

301 redirection for e-commerce website
Hi moz community, I am the web agency for a e-commerce website. Its current domain is https://www.liquorland.co.nz but now all the e-commerce part will be moved to a sub-domain https://shop.liquorland.co.nz. There are thousands of e-commerce current being indexed in Google (i.e., 15,500) plus they also have a mobile version of the page like /mobile/default.aspx. Is it necessary to 301 redirect all the pages? We are afraid it may slow down the website because the request will go through thousands of filters. Is it OK to just redirect the main categories? Many thanks in advance.

Many Errors on E-commerce website mainly Duplicate Content - Advice needed please!
Hi Mozzers, I would need some advice on how to tackle one of my client’s websites. We have just started doing SEO for them and after moz crawled the e-commerce it has detected: 36 329 Errors – 37496 warnings and 2589 Notices all going up! Most of the errors are due to duplicate titles and page content but I cannot identify where the duplicate pages come from, these are the links moz detected of the Duplicate pages (unfortunately I cannot add the website for confidentiality reasons) : • www.thewebsite.com/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=233&products_per_00&products_per_2&products_per_2&products_per_2&page=2 • www.thewebsite.com/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=233&products_per_00=&products_per_00&products_per_2&products_per_2&products_per_2&page=2 • www.thewebsite.com/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=233&products_per_00=&products_per_00&products_per_2&page=2 • www.thewebsite.com/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=233&products_per_2=&products_per_00&page=2 • www.thewebsite.com/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=233&products_per_00&products_per_00&products_per_00&products_per_00&page=2 With these URLs it is quite hard to identify which pages need to be canonicalize. And this is jsut an example out of thousands on this website. If anyone would have any advice on how to fix this and how to tackle 37496 errors on a website like this that would be great. Thank you for your time, Lyam

Mysterious drop of website ranking in google
Usually, I don't want to bother anybody by posting silly questions on forums. But this time I really might need advice. My wife and I took over the website maintenance and e-marketing of a local air conditioning company end of March this year. Before that the applied SEO strategies were not very user friendly and a little too search engine focused (spammy keyword stuffed articles, confusing website structure, a lot of directory links). Yesterday night (May 15th) the website more or less stopped ranking. For search terms like "ac repair englewood fl" or "trane north port" and many more the website was on page 1. Here are some more details: I replaced the old website with a newer version end of April. Since some of old the url structure did not apply any longer, I did a setup of around 30 301-redirects in .htaccess. The new site seemed to rank more or less as expected. The homepage has a PakeRank of 1 (seomoz Page Authority is 31). I am working on that but good natural links just take some time. site:kobiecomplete.com still brings up all the pages Google Webmaster Tools notified me on May 12th that there was a possible outage: _"_While crawling your site, we have noticed an increase in the number of transient soft 404 errors around 2012-05-08 16:00 UTC (London, Dublin, Edinburgh). Your site may have experienced outages. These issues may have been resolved. Here are some sample pages that resulted in soft 404 errors:" The listed pages under "some sample pages" are only pages from the old website which do not exist any longer and the 301 redirect was not setup. But this should have been already any issue before, if at all.

I added the missing 301 redirects and marked them as fixed in Google Webmaster Tools. I had a copy of the website on a testing webspace (root directory of brightsidewg.com). Even though I had robots.txt set to disallow everything and WordPress search engine privacy set to do not index / follow, the website appeared on the Google search results yesterday night instead of the original website (kobiecomplete.com). Even though brightsidewg was a few ranks worse than kobiecomplete.com was, it was still ranking.
To remove the duplicate content, I deleted everything on brightsidewg.com and requested the removal of the website in the Webmaster Tools. Now brightsidewg.com is not any longer indexed (good) but it didn't help the ranking of kobiecomplete.com. Especially the homepage and the service area pages were ranking pretty decent on Google before yesterday night. Now I can not find them at all. Only other less important pages rank on page 8+ No malware on website I did not do any big changes on the website yesterday (only really minor ones). I did not acquire any weird/paid links even though there is a new link from a PageRank 0 website which I did not setup: http://www.indo-karya.com/detail/news/2012/kombise But that alone I think would not be enough for a penalty. It almost looks like that Google applied a partial -950 filter!? I could submit the website for reconsideration to Google and tell them about the duplicate content issue with my testing webspace brightsidewg.com. What do you think about it and what shall I do? Thank you so much for any help!0 -
Should there be a canonical tag on my 404 error page?
In my crawl diagnostics, I notice some 4xx client errors. They are appearing for pages that no longer exist, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Shouldn't they just be dealt as 404's? Anyway, on closer inspection I noticed that my 404 error page contains a canonical tag which points to the missing page. Could this be the issue? Is it a good idea to remove the canonical tag from this error page? Thanks.

Google Website Optimizer
So if you are AB testing two pages: index.html and indexB.html Shouldn't I nofollow indexB.html? It has all the same content, just a different design.
