What to do next with my site gamblingsites.co
-
So I have this site gamblingsites.co, which I launched about a year ago (I think.) This used to be internetgamblingsites.net (a domain I bought, but never managed to get in the index, and it appeared to violate the T/Cs after asking in GWMT) and before that the site used to be casinowarehouse.eu.
After moving to gamblingsites.co, the pages were indexed almost instantly. I kept a 301 in place until today as I had some links pointing to internetgamblingsites.net.
Now, until a few weeks ago, everything was fine. The site was ranking top 10 for gambling sites (8-10) and I had some traffic everyday. This site wasn't my top priority, so besides adding new unique content, I didn't do much with it. In each case no shady link building or what-so-ever.
On February first of this year, however, it lost all of its rankings, and I have no idea why. Much worse site appear in the top 50, where a sub page of my site appears somewhere on the 9th SERP for keyword 'gambling sites.'
Last week I started contacting some people and asked them to update my links. I also used my own sites (all on unique hosting accounts) to build some branded links, i.e. 'GamblingSites.co' and similar terms to down tune the exact match. I also decreased the instances of the exact match on the homepage, to avoid over optimization. Finally, I removed the 301 from internetgamblingsites.net, since the better links have been changed (or are about to get changed soon.)
Now, couple of days later... no changes, but it's probably to early to judge. My question to you: "What would you do next, to try to save the site and at least get some traffic to it?"
Thank you for your help,
Giorgio
PS: Feel free to ask for more information.

First of all, I would say you made the wise choice by removing the 301 from internetgamblingsites.net, especially if it had a shady backlink profile, as I've seen evidence of Google passing penalties through 301s.
That said, I'm not sure how long it would take to recover after removing these links. I'd give it a couple weeks to a couple of months to be sure. Google may have to recrawl and reindex all those old pages that contained the bad links before it gives you credit for removing them.
Here's another possibility: A few weeks ago Google deindexed several large link networks. Even if you didn't use link networks like BMR for your backlink profile, it could still affect you as a secondary effect if the folk who linked to you were hit. It's sorta like you once had rich friends, but now they are poor because they built shady backlinks, and now they can't pass any link juice to you. In the gambling niche, this is common these days.
Regardless, seems like your one the right track. I'd let the dust settle for awhile before making any judgement. One way or another you'll need to work to build up more high quality links. And diversify your anchor text, as it appears like a very highly optimized profile:
Best of luck with your SEO.

OK, frankly I left some important info out. When I moved the site, I did it properly with all 301's in place. The few pages that did get a new URL structure, were manually 301'ed in the htaccess, where the rest was 301 to the same location on the new domain.
The 301's were not part of the problem. That's for sure. The new domain, gamblingsites.co, got indexed real quickly after moving the site, and after the first toolbar PR update it also got the PR updated accordingly.
Furthermore, the site started to rank decently. Not in the top positions, but still on the first SERP, and more importantly bringing some traffic too. Like I wrote in my previous message, this all stopped on February 1st 2012, and I can't find any reason for it.
In the mean time I have contacted web masters to update the most important links that were pointing to pages on internetgamblingsites.net, to make them point to gamblingsites.co. (Please note that OSE is not showing this yet, since it was only done in the past few weeks.) The past week I also build a couple of links from other (related) sites I own, mainly to mix up the anchor text distribution.
I don't think this site has a penalty or so, at least I didn't get any notices in GWMT.
So, I would like to ask again for some advice how to proceed forward. Or what could have possibly caused the site to vanish for its exact match ranking.
Thanks,
Giorgio
PS: The guide you linked to is about the same way I took care of my move.

Moving content from 1 site to another
Hi Moz'ers I have recently taken over the company I work for (www.prendas.co.uk) and want to migrate approx 200 pages from my hobby site to my company's eCommernce website on Shopify Plus. The content (text/photos) are highly relevant to the company, is unique & written by me and will hopefully generate some sales. I have a plan to gradually move them all over (I intend on doing 2-5/day) into a specific blog section to house them all. I'll then create an Apache perm. redirect to the old site too. How to setup an iFrame to be indexed as the parent site
Hi, we are trying to move all of our website content from www.mysite.com to a subdomain (i.e. content.mysite.com), and make "www.mysite.com" nothing more than an iFrame displaying the content from content.mysite.com. We have about 10 pages linking from the home page, all indexed separately, so I understand we'll have to do this for every one of them. (www.mysite.com/contact will be an iframe containing the content from content.mysite.com/contact, and we'll need to do this for every page) How do we do this so Google continues to index the content hosted at content.mysite.com with the parent page in organic results (www.mysite.com). We want all users to enter the site through www.mysite.com or www.mysite.com/xxxxxx, which will contain no content except for iFrames pulling in content from content.mysite.com. Our fear is that google will start directing users directly to content.mysite.com, rather than continue feeding to www.mysite.com. If we use www1.mysite.com or www2.mysite.com as the location of the content, instead of say content.mysite.com, would these subdomain names work better for passing credit for the iFramed content to the parent page (www.mysite.com)? Thanks! SIDE NOTE: Before someone asks why we need to do this, the content on mysite.com ranks very well, but site has a huge bounce rate due to a poorly designed CMS serving the content. The CMS does not load the page in pieces (like most pages load), but instead presents the visitor with a 100% blank page while the page loads in the background for about 5-10 seconds, and then boom 100% of the page shows up. We've been back and forth with our CMS provider about doing something about this for 5 years now, and we have given up. We tested moving our adwords links to xyz.mysite.com, where users are immediately shown a loading indicator, with our site (www.mysite.com) behind it in an iFrame. The immediate result was resounding success... our bounce rate PLUMMETED, and the root domain www.mysite.com saw a huge boost in search results. Problem with this is our site still comes up in organic results as www.mysite.com, which does not have any kind of spinning disk loading indicator, and still has a very high bounce rate.

Mobile site domain authority
Hello, I think this may be a coding issue, but hoping someone can help me. I am still having issues with our mobile site ranking, even though we created redirects/canonical to identify similar content between desktop version and mobile. I did notice through MOZ analysis of backlinks that we have no domain authority. If the mobile site is automatically detected dependent on the user, shouldn't we also have the same domain authority? How does that work exactly? How can we build up the domain authority for our mobile site? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Site being indexed by Google before it has launched
We are currently coming towards the end of a site migration, and are at the final stage of testing redirects etc. However, to our horror we've just discovered Google has started indexing the new site. Any ideas on how this could have happened? I have most recently asked for robots.txt to exclude anything with a certain parameter in URL. Is there a chance this, wrongly implemented, could have caused this?

Want to Target Mobile site for Google Mobile Version and Desktop Site for Google Desktop Version
I have ecommerce site with both mobile version and desktop version. Mobile version starts with m.example.com and full version starts with www.example.com I am using same content through out both site and using 301 redirection by detecting user agent vice-versa. My both sites are accessible to crawl by any google spider. I have submitted both sites's sitemap to GWT and mobile site having mobile sitemap xml, so google can easily recognize my mobile site. Is it going to help to rank my both sites as per my expectation? I need to rank for mobile site in Google mobile and ranking for desktop site in Google desktop version. Some of pages of my mobile site are started to appearing in Google desktop version. So how I can stop them to appear in Google desktop? Your comments are highly welcome.
