Bad code on Learn Seo Redirection info Page
-
Is it just me, or is the Redirection resource page missing the exclamation point (!) in this code. If so, this could really mess someone's site up if they copy and paste.

Redirecting Canonical Hostnames: The original developers at SEOmoz needed to redirect any requests that do not start with www.seomoz.org to make sure they included the www. They did this not only because it looks better, but to avoid common canonicalization errors. Redirect: http://seomoz.org/To: http://www.seomoz.org/ Redirect: http://mail.seomoz.org/To: http://www.seomoz.org Redirect: http://seomoz.org/somefile.phpTo: http://www.seomoz.org/somefile.php Solution: Add the following directive: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^seomoz.org [NC]RewriteRule (.*) http://www.seomoz.org/$1 [L,R=301] Explanation: This directive tells apache to examine the host the visitor is accessing (in this case: seomoz.org), and if it does not equal www.seomoz.org redirect to www.seomoz.org. The exclamation point (!) in front of www.seomoz.org negates the comparison, saying “if the host IS NOT www.seomoz.org, then perform RewriteRule.” In our case RewriteRule redirects them to www.seomoz.org while preserving the exact file they were accessing in a back-reference.

I think I'm becoming anal retentive. Just today, I took the time to contact two "seo" companies with linked articles from the Learn Seo page to let them know that they might want to redirect their broken links! I can't imagine having a link like that and letting it just crumble in to little 1s and 0s, not to mention I didn't get the info I was wanting. I'm sure they'll think I'm nuts. I then start thinking to myself, "self, you might know a thing or two" and then another robot and his tag issue come whack me back in my place...
thanks for the confirmation Cyrus. I just found out there's a support forum for this kind of thing..probably a better place for these issues.

Hi Holly,
Good catch. The code should look like:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.seomoz.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [R,L]Explanation:
This directive tells apache to examine the host the visitor is accessing. If it does not equal www.seomoz.org, redirect to www.seomoz.org. The exclamation point (!) in front of ^www.seomoz.org negates the comparison, saying “if the host IS NOT www.seomoz.org, then perform RewriteRule.” In our case RewriteRule redirects them to www.seomoz.org while preserving the exact file they were accessing in a back-reference.
I'll send a note to our help team to get this fixed.
Thanks!

Is www.domain.com/page the same url as www.domain.com/page/ for Google? (extra slash at end of url)
Dear all, in open site explorer there is a difference the url's 'www.domain.com/page' and 'www.domain.com/page/' (extra slash at end). There can be different values in pageauthority etc. in the open site explorer tool, but is this also the case for Google? Thanks for replying, Regards, Ben

301 Redirect & Canonical Tags
If I have URL A and need to 301 Redirect to URL B but want to have a canonical tag on URL B pointing to URL A Would this be considered cloaking? My server which runs .net 3.5 does not allow me to do URL re-writes.

Percentage of good links vs. bad
Hi Does anyone know the best way of determining good links from bad links using the SEO Moz tools? I bought some directory links to two or three pages on my site a few years back. The were all very obviously spammy because of the anchor text and I didn't have a high enough ratio of good links to counteract them. I read somewhere that if more than 10% of the links to a page have the same (or similar) anchor text, it's obvious that you're on the bad list.

Where to learn SEO practices, especially local
I am looking to learn SEO as I know how important it is. I have basic understandings, but I don't know where to start, or what to add. my website is viralextent.com and apparently I'm not so good at ranking. I want to rank locally for "web design". I understand that I couldn't touch the national market right now as I can't even seem to grasp the local. I know everyone's time is valuable so I'm not looking for a free assessment. Where should I go to learn what I need to do next and kind of guide me through the process of becoming #1 for local? I am obviously an SEOmoz PRO member, where should I start here, or should I be looking somewhere else? Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

301 redirect
Hello, I received a crawl diagnostic report for the website http://www.advancedemt.com here's what it said: Issue: (301 redirect) Page Title URL:http://advancedemt.com/ Redirects to:http://http://www.advancedemt.com/ I called seohosting.com for help: They checked my .httaccess file and did not find anything that would cause this 301 redirect.. Cpanel was evaluated for a 301 redirect and nothing there either. MyPHP Admin was checked for anything that could possibly cause this issue. They had a tech search the entire database and no luck on any issue that may be causing the SEOmoz software to pick up this 301 redirect. We checked the Wordpress settings... No discrepancies. Wordpress permalinks... No problems..... We checked Google to see if they may have indexed the site for the error with no luck... I told the SEO Hosting staff that the canonical feature that has been built into Wordpress would prevent this redirect from allowing Google to index the site with this error. Is it possible that the crawl diagnostics is wrong??? Please help... Best regards, Jeff Bratcher (404) 520-2385

How to check Page Authority in bulk?
Hey guys, I'm on the free trial for SEOmoz PRO and I'm in love. One question, though. I've been looking all over the internet for a way to check Page Authority in bulk. Is there a way to do this? Would I need the SEOmoz API? And what is the charge? All I really need is a way to check Page Authority in bulk--no extra bells and whistles. Thanks, Brandon
